An active phased array antennas can not only electrically steer the beam by controlling the weighting of the excitation signal, but can also form a pattern null in the direction of the interference source. The weight of the excitation signal to steer the main beam can be easily calculated based on the position of the radiating element. In addition, the weight of the excited signal for pattern null formation can also be calculated by setting the required radiation pattern and using WLSM(Weighted Least Squares Method). However, in a general wireless communication network environment, the location of the interference source is unknown. Therefore, an adaptive pattern null synthesis is needed. In this paper, it was confirmed that pattern null synthesis according to the required radiation characteristic was possible. And based on this, adaptive pattern null synthesis into the direction of an interference source was studied using a binary search algorithm based on observation area. As a result of conducting a simulation based on the presented technique, it was confirmed that adaptive pattern null forming into the direction of an interference is possible in efficient way.

This paper describes the development and measurement results of a wide-band planar active phase array antenna system for an electronic warfare jamming transmitter. The system is designed as an $8{\times}8$ triangular lattice array using a $45^{\circ}$ slant wide-band antenna. The 64-element transmission channel is composed of a wide-band gallium nitride(GaN) solid state power amplifier and a gallium arsenide(GaAs) multi-function core chip(MFC). Each GaAs MFC includes a true-time delay circuit to avoid a wide-band beam squint, a digital attenuator, and a GaAs drive amplifier to electronically steer the transmitted beam over a ${\pm}45^{\circ}$ azimuth angle and ${\pm}25^{\circ}$ elevation angle scan. Measurement of the transmitted beam pattern is conducted using a near-field measurement facility. The EIRP of the designed system, which is 9.8 dB more than the target EIRP performance(P), and the ${\pm}45^{\circ}$ azimuth and ${\pm}25^{\circ}$ elevation beam steering fulfill the desired specifications.

In this paper, we propose a new beamforming algorithm for a conformal array antenna based on support vector regression(SVR). While the conventional least squares method(LSM) considers all sample errors, SVR considers errors beyond the given error bound to obtain the optimum weight vector, which has a sparse solution and the advantage of the minimization of the overfitting problem. To verify the performance of the proposed algorithm, we apply SVR to the experimentally measured active element patterns of the conformal array antenna and obtain the weights for beamforming. In addition, we compare the beamforming results of SVR and LSM.

This work presents a new method for enhancing the performance of a dual band Planer Inverted-F Antenna (PIFA) and its lumped equivalent circuit formulation. The performance of a PIFA in terms of return loss, bandwidth, gain, and efficiency is improved with the addition of the proposed open stub in the radiating element of the PIFA without disturbing the operating resonance frequencies of the antenna. In specific cases, various simulated and fabricated PIFA models illustrate that the return loss, bandwidth, gain, and efficiency values of antennas with longer optimum open stub lengths can be enhanced up to 4.6 dB, 17%, 1.8 dBi, and 12.4% respectively, when compared with models that do not have open stubs. The proposed open stub is small and does not interfere with the surrounding active modules; therefore, this method is extremely attractive from a practical implementation point of view. The second presented work is a simple procedure for the development of a lumped equivalent circuit model of a dual band PIFA using the rational approximation of its frequency domain response. In this method, the PIFA's measured frequency response is approximated to a rational function using a vector fitting technique and then electrical circuit parameters are extracted from it. The measured results show good agreement with the electrical circuit results. A correlation study between circuit elements and physical open stub lengths in various antenna models is also discussed in detail; this information could be useful for the enhancement of the performance of a PIFA as well as for its systematic design. The computed radiated power obtained using the electrical model is in agreement with the radiated power results obtained through the full wave electromagnetic simulations of the antenna models. The presented approach offers the advantage of saving computation time for full wave EM simulations. In addition, the electrical circuit depicting almost perfect characteristics for return loss and radiated power can be shared with antenna users without sharing the actual antenna structure in cases involving confidentiality limitations.

This paper presents a design, fabrication and the test results of planar active electronically scanned array(AESA) radar prototype for airborne fighter applications using transmit/receive(T/R) module hybrid technology. LIG Nex1 developed a AESA radar prototype to obtain key technologies for airborne fighter's radar. The AESA radar prototype consists of a radiating array, T/R modules, a RF manifold, distributed power supplies, beam controllers, compact receivers with ADC(Analog-to-Digital Converter), a liquid-cooling unit, and an appropriate structure. The AESA antenna has a 590 mm-diameter, active-element area capable of containing 536 T/R modules. Each module is located to provide a triangle grid with $14.7\;mm{\times}19.5\;mm$ spacing among T/R modules. The array dissipates 1,554 watts, with a DC input of 2,310 watts when operated at the maximum transmit duty factor. The AESA radar prototype was tested on near-field chamber and the results become equal in expected beam pattern, providing the accurate and flexible control of antenna beam steering and beam shaping.

Microstrip $8{ imes}2$ sub-array antennas for a extension to active phased array antennas are designed, fabricated and measured for TX/RX dual operation in satellite communication and a reception of satellite broadcasting. For the frequency range from 11.7 to 12.75 GHz for RX and from 14 to 14.5 GHz for TX, two orthogonal linear polarizations of ${pm}45^{\circ}$ are used to transmit and receive simultaneously with one radiator. They adopt dual resonance between two patches for wideband characteristics in RX band and show isolation characteristics over 20 dB. An electrical beam tilt of $30^{\circ}$ is achieved and a tapered power distribution, narrow element spacing are used for the purpose of low side-lobe characteristics.

The flexible structure like solar array and antenna in spacecraft shows very sensitive responses to the inner or outer disturbance and noise. And the spacecraft becomes more complex and larger as it has various mission and role. But since the spacecraft need to have the limited mass, the thin and light material should be selected and this necessity induces the decrease d natural frequency and structural stiffness. It reduces the ability of adapting to the disturbance and induces the structural unstability. Certainly, the disturbance does not only make the structural unstability, but also give the bad effect to the precise attitude control. So it is necessary to control the vibration in the space. In this paper, the flexible structure control modeling with piezo sensor and piezo actuator is developed. The model uncertainty of damping ratio is overcome by robust control. The system equation is induced by the finite element method.

In this study, an active element pattern (AEP) of a printed dipole was analyzed in 1D and 2D arrays. First, an AEP of the printed dipole was obtained using the simulation in the 2D infinite array. The scan blindness in the 2D array occurred in the E-plane direction at around ${\pm}36^{\circ}$; however, it was barely observed in the 1D array. To analyze the cause of the scan blindness in the 2D array, the dispersion properties of a unit cell was obtained and compared with the scan blindness by frequency change. The difference between the scan blindness of the 1D and 2D arrays was clarified using the comparison of the Q value in the unit cell in the 1D and 2D arrays. Then, the coupling of the electric field in the E-plane direction was observed when nine elements were separated between the two ports in a linearly arranged dipole structure. Finally, the printed dipole array was fabricated, and an AEP was measured for the $11{\times}1$ and $11{\times}3$ sub arrays. The proposed theory was verified using these observations and by comparison with the simulation results.

In this paper, a compact digital phase shifter to be used an active phased array antenna system for satellite communications was proposed. The even and odd mode analysis for a given reflection-type phase shifter, which uses a folded hybrid coupler as a base element, was performed and the design parameters were derived. Also, to verify experimentally the electrical performances of the proposed structure, X-band 4-bit digital phase shifter was designed and fabricated using Teflon soft substrate $({\varepsilon}_r; =\;2.17)$. Its circuit size was less than 3.5 cm $\times$ 3.0 cm, and it exhibited at least 50 % size reduction as compared with the conventional unfolded configuration. The experimental results of the fabricated phase shifter showed that the average insertion loss and insertion loss variation were less than 3.5 dB, $\pm$ 0.6 dB within the operating band, 7.9 ~ 8.4 GHz, respectively. And, input and output return loss were more than 10 dB, respectively. Also, the phase response of the phase shifter showed 4-bit operation with $\pm$3$^{\circ}$ rms phase error.

In this paper, the design and fabrication of a transmit/receive(T/R) module for Ka-band phased array radar is presented. A 5bit digital phase shifter and digital attenuator were used in common for both transmitter and receiver considering unique Ka-band characteristic. The circulator was excluded in the T/R module and was placed outside T/R module. The transmitting power per element antenna is designed to be about 1 W and the noise figure is designed to be below 8 dB. The designed T/R module RF part has a compact size of $5\;mm{\times}4\;mm{\times}57\;mm$. In order to implement the T/R module, MMICs used in T/R module was separately assessed before assembly of the designed T/R module. The transmitter of the fabricated T/R module shows about 1 W at 5 dBm unit module input power and the receiver shows a gain of about 20 dB and a noise figure of below 8 dB as expected in the design stage.
