  • Instrumental neutron activation analysis was used to measure the concentrations of 27 elements associated with respirable particulate matter (PM10) that were collected from the Third and Fourth Industrial Complex Area of Daejeon City. The distribution patterns of elements were clearly distinguished with their concentrations varying across more than four orders of magnitude. The mean for Al were recorded to be the highest value of 1,527 $ng/m^3$, while that for In showed the lowest value of 0.1 $ng/m^3$. If compared in terms of enrichment factors, it was found that certain elements (e.g., As, Br, Cl, Cr, I, In, Sb, Se, and Zn) are enriched in PM10 samples of the study site. The results of factor analysis indicated six factors with statistical significance, which may exert dominant controls on regulating the elemental concentration levels in the study area.

  • In this study, activated carbon was prepared from solid residue after lignin pyrolysis by using zinc chloride as an activation agent. The steam activation method was adopted to manufacture activated carbon from solid residue after lignin pyrolysis. The effect of process operation variables such as activation temperature, activation time and mass of activation agent added to char on the pore structure and specific surface area of the activated carbon was investigated. Activated carbon with high surface area and well-developed pore structure could be prepared, when solid residue after lignin pyrolysis was mixed with zinc chloride of 300 wt% and then the mixture was activated for 1 hour at $1000^{\circ}C$ in a stream of nitrogen.

  • Coal tar pitch was chemically modified with 10 wt% benzoquinone (BQ) to raise the softening point of isotropic pitch precursor and the precursor was melt-spun into pitch fibers, stabilized, carbonized and activated with steam at $900^{\circ}C$. The weight loss of carbon fiber-benzoquinone (CF-BQ) increased with the increase of activation time like other fibers, but was lower than those of Kureha fiber at the same activation time in spite of larger geometric surface area. Those adsorption isotherms fitted into 'Type I' according to Brunauer, Deming, Deming and Teller classification. However, there was very thin low-pressure hysteresis that lower closure points of the hysteresis are about 0.42-0.45. From the pore size distribution curves, there might be some micropores having narrow-necked bottle; a series of interconnected pore is more likely than discrete bottles. FT-IR studies showed that the functional groups such as carboxyl, quinone, and phenol were introduced to ACFs-BQ surface after steam activation. Methylene blue decolorization and iodine adsorption capacity of ACF-BQ increased linearly with the increase of specific surface area and was larger than that of ACF-Kureha at the same specific surface area.

  • Activated carbons (ACs) have been used as EDLC (electric double-layer capacitor) electrode materials due to their high specific area, stability, and ecological advantages. In order to prepare ACs with high density and crystallinity, coal tar pitch (CTP) was activated by $K_2CO_3$ and the textural and electrochemical properties of the obtained ACs were investigated. Although the CTP ACs formed by $K_2CO_3$ activation had much smaller specific surface area and pore volume than did the CTP ACs formed by KOH activation, their volumetric specific capacitance (F/cc) levels as electrode materials for EDLC were comparable due to their higher density and micro-crystallinity. Structural characterization and EDLC-electrode performance were studied with different activation conditions of $CTP/K_2CO_3$ ratio, activation temperature, and activation period.

  • This study aims to identify the actual condition of local food stores that serve as a regional activation space within the highway rest area. It analyzes and examines user awareness, and presents desirable directions for the establishment of new local food stores and improvement of existing facilities. The research method was conducted as follows: the status of 226 rest areas were examined which were installed on national highways, location conditions and convenience facilities. Second, a physical survey was conducted on 116 local food stores(floor area, location) and a user awareness survey on 63 local food stores. The results of the analysis and review have been concluded as follows. First, it is necessary to consider the establishment of a local food store in order to promote the local community by using various cultural and environmental conditions in the highway rest area, and to secure a public space to promote exchanges with local residents and revitalize the local economy. Second, considering the continuous increase of highway users, location, and traffic conditions, diversification of convenience functions including local food stores should be considered even if it is a medium and small highway rest area. Third, the floor area of local food stores is generally planned within a range of $75m^2$ to $125m^2$, and its location should be integrated with the rest area as much as possible. Inevitably, when you need to construct separately at the exit or entrance, you need to consider a unique design that ensures accessibility and visibility.

  • The activated carbon was produced from Sancheong bamboo by steam and carbon dioxide gas activation methods. The carbonization of raw material was conducted at 90$0^{\circ}C$ and gas activation reactions were conducted with respect to various conditions. -activation temperature 750-90$0^{\circ}C$, the flow rate of steam 0.5-2g-$H_2O$/g-char$.$hr, the flow rate of carbon dioxide 5-30$m\ell$-$CO_2$/g-char-min and activation time 1-5 hr. The prepared activated carbons were measured yield, the adsorption capacity of iodine and methylene blue, BET specific surface area and pore size distribution. The adsorption capacity of iodine (680.5-1526.1 mg/g) and methylene blue (18.3-221.5 mg/g) increased with creasing activation temperature and activation time. The adsorption capacity of iodine and methylene blue increased with the activation gas quantity in the range of 0.5-1.5g-$H_2O$/g-charㆍhr, 5-18.9$m\ell$-Co$_2$/g-charㆍmin. But those decreased over those range due to the pore shrinkage. The steam activation method was superior in efficiency to carbon dioxide activation method.

  • The reliability of 3D NAND flash memory cell is affected by the charge migration which can be divided into the vertical migration and the lateral migration. To clarify the difference of two migrations, the activation energy of the charge loss is extracted and compared in a conventional square device pattern and a new test pattern where the perimeter of the gate is exaggerated but the area is same. The charge loss is larger in the suggested test pattern and the activation energy is extracted to be 0.058 eV while the activation energy is 0.28 eV in the square pattern.

  • OXI-PAN fibers, Kynol fibers and rayon fibers were used as precursorsfor the preparation of activated carbon fibers (ACFs) by chemical activation with KOH at $800^{\circ}C$. The effects of different precursorfibers and fiber/KOH ratios on the final ACFs are discussed. The precursor fibers used are appropriate for the ACFs in a single stage pyrolysis process. The OXI-PAN fibers which were activated with KOH of 2.0M showed a specific surface area of $2328m^2/g$ however, loosed the fiber shape because of low yields. The Kynol fibers and Rayon fibers showed the high yields but the lower specific surface area of $900m^2/g$ and $774m^2/g$, respectively, at KOH of 1.5M. The OXI-PAN fibers which were activated with KOH of 1.5M have a specific surface area of $1028m^2/g$ and higher micro-pore volumes and lower yields rather than Kynol-1.5 and Rayon-1.5 samples. This phenomenon is because of higher chemical resistance of the Kynol and Rayon fibers rather than OXI-PAN fibers. However, the Kynol fibers were the best precursors on KOH activation at $800^{\circ}C$ considered carbon yields, surface areas and micropore volumes.
