  • The purpose of this study is to present objective information in applying 3D printing technology for PET/CT (Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography) performance evaluation and use it as a basic research that can be applied to various purposes in the future. Phantoms were manufactured with step wedge of ABS(Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) and ACR(Acrylic acid) material. The counts for each ROI(Region of Interest) were analyzed through image acquisition in PET/CT. And the variation rate of counts and CNR(Contrast Noise Ratio) was evaluated. In the counts analysis, the effect of thickness occurred. In addition, in the variation rate analysis, the thickness setting of steps wedge 4 to 5 levels should be considered first. These results minimize quantitative and qualitative changes in the phantom manufactured based on 3D printing, and enable more stable PET/CT performance evaluation. Based on 3D printing in PET/CT, various phantoms are expected to be produced in the future. If the characteristics of each material are considered and applied through the basic research such as this research, the result of the phantom manufactured through 3D printing can be more meaningful and will be used in a wide range.

  • Conventional foaming process has defects such as lower mechanical properties than ur~foaming material due to non-uniform cell distribution and environmental pollution problem caused by chemical blowing agency. So, a new foaming process such as Microcelluar plastics has been introduced to use inactive gases as a foaming agency. In order to apply Microcellular plastics for mass production process system such as extrusion, injection molding and blow molding, it needs to predict the change in material properties of polymer according to the amount of meltingas. In Polymer molding applying Microcelluar plastics, the change of viscosity among several material properties is the most important factor. Therefore, this paper is aimed to establish the method which not only finds out but also predicts the change of viscosity of ABS(Acrylonitri1e Butadiene Styrene) resin according to inert gas amount in extrusion molding.

  • Polymer blends containing polypropylene (PP) with compatibilizers were prepared using twin screw extruder. Physical properties were investigated using universal test machine (UTM) and Izod impact tester. In the PP/acrylonitrilebutadiene-styrene (ABS) blends, mechanical strength was increased with the addition of PP-g-styrene acryloritrile (PP-g-SAN) compatibilizer, and the ductility was increased with the addition of ethylene-ethyl acrylate-maleic anhydride (E-EAMAH-g-SAN) compatibilizer. For the PP/ABS/ polycarbonate (PC)/Nylon-6,6 blends, impact strength was increased with the addition of ethylene glycidylmethacrylate (E-GMA compatibilizer) up to 0.5 phr. In the case of the PP/ABS/PC/Nylon-6,6/poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)/poly(oxymethylene) (POM)/poly(vinyl acetate) (PVC)/poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT) blends, mechanical properties were increased by the complex compatibilizing effects of PP-g-SAN, E-EA-MAH-g-SAN and E-GMA, respectively.

  • ABS(Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) 수지는 낮은 비중과 전기전도도, 가공성 등 우수한 물리적 성질을 갖는다.

  • ABS/Polypyrrole composite film has been synthesized by means of electrochemical polymerization in order to enhance the oxidant stability by using ABS(Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Strene) as a host-polymer. While the acetonitrile as a solvent swells the host-polymer ABS on Pt plate, and then the pyrrole in an electrolyte penetrates the Pre-coated ABS film during electrochemical Polymerization. Comparing with the sin91e-component Polypynole film, the resulting conducting ABS/PPy composite nim shows the good reliability for the uniform resistance and the enhancement of the oxidant stabilization.

  • In this study, graphite or zeolite 4A was mixed with poly(acrylonitrile-butadiene-strene) (ABS) to make hybrid films, and permeation characteristics of air and water vapor through these films were investigated. In all cases, gas permeabilities of hybrid films were lower than that of pure ABS films. The permeability decrease of oxygen was slightly larger than that of nitrogen, resulting in the little decrease of $O_2/N_2$ selectivity. In addition, the water vapor transfer rates (WVTR) of hybrid films were about half of ABS film's. The decrease of permeabilities may be owing to the increase of tortuosity for diffusion in hybrid films.

  • Acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) plastic is a polymer material extensively used in electrical and electronic applications. Nickel (Ni) thin film was deposited on ABS by electroless plating, after its surface was treated and modified with atmospheric plasma generated by means of dielectric barrier discharges (DBDs) in air. The method in this study was developed as a pre-treatment for electroless plating using DBDs, and is a dry process featuring fewer processing steps and more environmentally friendliness than the chemical method. After ABS surfaces were modified, surface morphologies were observed using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) to check for any physical changes of the surfaces. Cross-sectional SEM images were taken to observe the binding characteristics between metallic films and ABS after metal plating. According to the SEM images, the depths of ABS by plasma are shallow compared to those modified by chemically treatment. The static contact angles were measured with deionized (DI) water droplets on the modified surfaces in order to observe for any changes in chemical activities and wettability. The surfaces modified by plasma showed smaller contact angles, and their modified states lasted longer than those modified by chemical etching. Adhesion strengths were measured using 3M tape (3M 810D standard) and by 90° peel-off tests. The peel-off test revealed the stronger adhesion of the Ni films on the plasma-modified surfaces than on the chemically modified surfaces. Thermal shock test was performed by changing the temperature drastically to see if any detachment of Ni film from ABS would occur due to the differences in thermal expansion coefficients between them. Only for the plasma-treated samples showed no separation of the Ni films from the ABS surfaces in tests. The adhesion strengths of metallic films on the ABS processed by the method developed in this study are better than those of the chemically processed films.

  • We developed a single-channel thread sensor for a rotary bobbin by optical sensing and analyzed the signal characteristics. A specially designed mount made of ABS (acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene) resin that encapsulated an optical sensor was fabricated by using a 3D printer and was attached to the rotary bobbin system. Stable control on a weaving machine was achieved by observing the difference in the output signals of an optical sensor system, which vary significantly according to the states of the thread in the weaving operation. The optical sensor effectively detects an unintentional thread cut and run-out during weaving fast enough to enable prompt stopping of the weaving machine, thereby minimizing the loss of expensive fabrics.

  • The effects of a compatibilizer on polypropylene (PP)/poly(acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene) (ABS) blends were studied. Blends of the PP/ABS, with PP-g-SAN copolymer as a compatibilizer, were prepared using a twin screw extruder. The flexural and impact strength of the PP/ABS blends with the PP-g-SAN copolymer increased significantly with PP-rich compositions on the addition of the PP-g-SAN copolymer at 3 phr. The increase in the mechanical properties of the PP/ABS/PP-g-SAN blend may have been due to the toughening effects of the ABS in the PP-rich compositions. In the morphology study of the PP/ABS/PP-g-SAN (80/20) blend with the PP-g-SAN copolymer, the minimum droplet size, $5.1{\mu}m$, was observed with the addition on phr of the PP-g-SAN copolymer. The complex viscosity of the PP/ABS/PP-g-SAN (80/20) blends increased with the addition of3 phr of the PP-g-SAN copolymer. From the above mechanical properties, morphology and complex viscosity results for the PP/ABS blends, it is suggested that the compatibility is more increased with the PP-rich composition (PP:ABS=80/20 wt%) of the PP/ABS blend on the addition of 3 phr of the PP-g-SAN copolymer.

  • The effects of poly($({\varepsilon}$-caprolactone) (PCL) on poly(acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene) (ABS) and polycarbonate (PC) blends were studied. Blends of ABS/PC (70/30, wt%) with PCL as a compatibilizer were prepared by a twin screw extruder. From the glass transition temperature $(T_g)$ results of the ABS/PC blends with PCL, the $T_g$(PC) of the ABS/PC (70/30) blends decreased with increasing PCL content. From the results of the morphology of the ABS/PC (70/30) blends with PCL, the phase separation between the ABS and PC phases became less significant after adding PCL in the ABS/PC blends. In addition, the morphological studies of the ABS/PC blends etched by NaOH indicated that the shape of the droplet was changed from regular round to irregular round by adding PCL in the ABS/PC blends. These results for the mechanical properties of the ABS/PC blends with PCL indicated that the tensile, flexural and impact strengths of the ABS/PC (70/30) blends peaked at a PCL content of 0.5 phr. From the results for the rheological properties of the ABS/PC (70/30) blends with PCL content, the storage modulus, loss modulus and complex viscosity increased at PCL content up to 5 phr. From the above results of the $T_g$, mechanical properties, morphology and complex viscosity of the ABS/PC blends with PCL, it was concluded that the compatibility was increased with PCL addition in the ABS/PC (70/30, wt%) blends and that the optimum concentration of PCL as a compatibilizer is 0.5 phr.
