  • A System engineering is a management technique that simultaneously interates all essential acquisition activities through the use of multidisciplinary teams to optimize the design, manufacturing, business, and supportability processes. This work describes two case studies of the defence acquistion prigram applied SE. It is presented a general understanding of SE and perspective of SE applications for defense acquisition process.

  • We developed a real-time three-polarizer spectroscopic ellipsometer based on a new data acquisition algorithm and a general data reduction (the process of extracting the ellipsometric sample parameters from the Fourier coefficients). The data acquisition algorithm measures Fourier coefficients of radiant flux waveform accurately and precisely. The general data reduction is introduced to represent the analytic functions of the standard uncertainties of the ellipsometric sample parameters, and the extracted theoretical values closely agree with the corresponding experimental data. Our approach can be used for optimization of measurement conditions, instrumentation, simulation, standardization, laboratory accreditation, and metrology.

  • In computed tomography, the errors asociated with interpolation in the reconstruction process degrade the reconstructed image and may cause divergence unless a large number of rays is used. A new data acquisition scheme without interpolation is developed in this paper. Samples (projection data ) are taken in phase with samples of the Cartesian grid to eliminated errors associated with interpolation process.

  • This paper proposes a new locking algorithm of the delay locked loop (DLL) which reduces the lock-acquisition time and eliminates false locking problem to enlarge the operating frequency range. The proposed DLL uses the modified phase frequency detector (MPFD) and the modified charge pump (MCP) to avoid the false locking problem. Adopting a new lock detector that measures delay between elects helps the fast lock-acquisition time greatly. The idea has been confirmed by HSPICE simulations in a 0.35-${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ CMOS process.

  • Many of the currently used PN code acquisition algorithms detect the phase of the incoming PN signal on the basis of ML estimation principle and utilize statistics grounded in taking inner products. As an extension of PN code acquisition algorithm using one auxiliary code introduced by Salih in 1996, we propose a more and optimal (hardware / time / space complexity wise) algorithm by using a vector space approach. We outline some important differences between our algorithm and that introduced by Salih and in the process point out some advantages of our algorithm.

  • Acquisition of 3D points is an essential process for modelling of physical 3D objects. Although Coordinate Measuring Machine(CMM) is most accurate for this purpose, it is very time consuming. To enhance the data aquisition speed for scuptured surfaces, active vision with reflecctometric method was used for our system. A fter the data acquisition, the system automatically generates cutting tool path for the 3-axis milling of the object. The fullyintegrated system from the data acquisition to the NC-code generation was implemented with IBN-PC/386 and necessary hardwears.

  • The 4th Industrial Revolution and the continuous development of Science and Technology have also required a speedy business promotion method in the defense industry. Advanced countries including the United States are already boldly innovating the existing high-cost and long-term acquisition system with the highest priority in weapons development to cope with the military rise of Russia and China. The Ministry of National Defense and the Defense Acquisition Program Administration have also recently introduced a quick acquisition system and are applying it to business promotion. In addition, some small-scale projects and weapons systems are being reorganized so that they can be managed by the units demanding them. After an organizational diagnosis of the Project Acquisition Group by the Ministry of National Defense in 2020, it has been reassigned as a subordinate unit of the Army Logistics Command from a direct unit managed by the Army HQ. As a result, problems such as work conflict or redundancy have been identified. In addition, a system has been implemented to shorten the acquisition period by applying a rapid acquisition program in the field of weapons systems by benchmarking the rapid acquisition program of advanced countries. The force support system project process will also need to introduce such a quick acquisition system. In addition, the Ministry of National Defense is considering ways to delegate some weapon systems to each military, which will then carry out tasks ranging from requirements determination to project management. Accordingly, it is now time to expand the organization for the management of the Army's weapons system acquisition project. Therefore, in this paper, the Army Project Acquisition Group was analyzed on its organization, acquisition procedures, and cooperation systems, with presentations of development plans for each field.

Packet Acquisition for a CDMA/TDD Packet Radio System

  • In this paper, an adaptive packet acquisition performance of a CDMA/TDD packet radio system is analyzed and simulated in a frequency-selective Rayleigh fading channel. The frequency-selective fading process is assumed to be WSSUS model which is typical for a satellite and a mobile radio communications. The performance is evaluated in terms of packet error probability. In this adaptive packet acquisition scheme, an auxiliary training sequence is placed within data packet to estimate time-varying channel state. From the simulation results, it is confirmed that the proposed acquisition scheme significantly improves packet error performance compared to the conventional fixed acquisition scheme, especially, for the case of low Doppler frequency. The analysis in this paper can be applied to the design of a CDMA/TDD packet radio system.

  • In this paper, we propose a fast code acquisition method that can reduce drastically the mean acquisition time of the direct sequence spread spectrum (DS-SS) system by using and integrated search and verification (ISV) scheme. The proposed method performs simultaneously the search and verification processes at every search cell, through storing sufficiently long signal samples enough to perform the verification process form the previously received samples. We analyze and acquisition performance in the case of Gaussian channel to evaluate theacquisition perfomrance of the proposed method. From the simple numericl analysis result, we have shown that the acquisition performance of the proposed method is better than that of the conventional serial search method, and the performance improvement becomes more prominent as the channel environment becomes degraded.

  • To reveal when toddlers and children acquire the grammatical morpheme of Korean language, this study investigated the way they respond to some picture tasks. The object of this research was 174 children ranging from 18 months to 60 months, who were selected from two child-care centers located in Seoul and Gyeongi Province. Following the statistical analysis of the data, this study ascertained that 2-, and 3- year-old children acquire the most part of grammatical morphemes such as nouns, pronouns, verbs, adverbs, adjectives, and interrogation terms. The fact that the process of acquisition was significantly different among six age groups has proved the hypothesis of the gradual acquisition of grammatical morpheme.
