  • Crystal structure and chemical compositions of Plasma electrolytic oxidized layer of A-1100, A-2024, A-5052, A-6061, A-6063, A-7075, ACD-7B and ACD-12 were investigated. The electrolyte for plasma electrolytic oxidation was mixture of distilled water, $Na_2P_2O_7$, Cu, Cr metal salts and KOH. ${\eta}$-Alumina, as well as ${\alpha}$-alumina, was main crystal phase. Another crystals such as $(Al_{0.948}Cr_{0.052})_2O_3$ and $(Al_{0.9}Cr_{0.1})_2O_3$ were also formed in the oxide layer. It was thought that the effect of electrolyte compositions on the physical properties and crystal system of PEO layers was greater than the effect of Al alloy composition variation.

  • Recently, the demand for SAR imaging is growing to monitor natural disasters or military sites to foresee topographic changes, where optical sensing is not easily available. High-resolution SAR images are useful in exploring topography and monitoring artificial land objects in all weather conditions. In this paper, high resolution SAR images acquired from KOMPSAT-5 are exploited for the applications of change detection and classification. In order to detect change areas, amplitude change detection (ACD) and coherence change detection (CCD) algorithms are employed and their performances are compared in practical applications. For enhanced performance, the potential of small scaled change detection is explored by combining multi-temporary SAR images. The k-means and SVM methods are applied for land classifications and their performances are compared by applying to the real spaceborne SAR images.

  • This paper describes the analysis results of channel characteristics in the operating area of satellite OTM(On-The-Move) terminal. The communication channel between the Koreasat-5 and OTM terminal on a test car is measured and recorded from Daejeon to Daecheon, using the downlink frequency of around 20 GHz. And the measurement data are divided into two classes ; highway environment and national road environment, and then are statistically analyzed. The statistical evaluation of satellite channel is conducted by using probability density function and Markov model and then presents average connection duration(ACD), average fade duration( AFD), and level crossing rate(LCR) of highway environment and national road environment. Finally the statistics data of the two environments are compared with each other.

  • Identification of virulent Bacillus cereus strains was examined by PCR using primers specific for the detection of plcR-papR, which encode regulatory proteins controlling the transcription of virulence factors in B. cereus. Total 96 strains of B. cereus that carried at least one of diarrheal toxin genes including hblACD, nheABC, and cytK showed all positive PCR products, while other 48 Bacillus strains that lacked the toxin genes were plcRpapR-negative. This PCR method targeting the plcR-papR genes appears to be simple and effective in identifying the enterotoxin genes-harboring B. cereus strains.

  • Purpose: We underwent this study to evaluate the factors which influence labeling efficiency when modified in vivo erythrocyte labeling technique was used. Materials and methods: Thirty healthy volunteers (M:F=19:11, age:$25{\pm}2$ yrs) were enrolled in this study. Totally, two hundred ten samples were obtained from them. The 1 mg of stannous pyrophosphate was injected intravenously at the beginning of labeling. After suitable tinning time (5 min, 20 min, 35 min) passed by, blood (5 mL, 3 mL or 1 mL) was withdrawn into 10 mL syringe previously containing Tc-99m (740 MBq) and anticoagulant (heparin, ACD or CPDA) through 19-gauged scalp needle. The generator ingrowth time of Tc-99m was within 24 hrs in each case. The blood samples were placed on rotating invertor during incubation (10 min, 25 min, 40 min) but some of them were not. Immediately after the conclusion of incubation, the labeled blood specimens to analyze were centrifuged. and then %Unbound Tc-99m was calculated. Statical analysis was used paired T-test and one way ANOVA with SPSS 10.0. Results: The binding efficiency at 1 mL of blood volume was $73{\pm}32%,\;91{\pm}10%$ at 3 mL and $96{\pm}7%$ at 5 mL (p<0.01). The binding efficiency at 5 min of tinning time was $45{\pm}23%,\;98{\pm}6%$, at 20 min and $97{\pm}8%$ at 35 min (p<0.001). The binding efficiency at 10 min of incubation time was $96{\pm}7%,\;95{\pm}12%$ at 25 min and $98{\pm}3%$ at 40 min (p>0.05). The binding efficiency in case of using rotating invertor was $96{\pm}7%$ and the binding efficiency in case of not using it was $87{\pm}18%$ (p>0.05). There was no significant difference between them. In binding efficiency according to kinds of anticoagulants, ACD was $98{\pm}4%$, CPDA was $97{\pm}6%$ and heparin was $89{\pm}20%$ (p<0.001). Conclusion: When modified in vivo erythrocyte labeling technique is used with Tc-99m, the methods to obtain the highest labeling efficiency are as follow. The withdrawing blood volume should be over 3 mL, tinning time should be kept between 20 min and 35 min, and incubation time should be kept between 10 min and 40 min. ACD or CPDA have to be used as a anticoagulant except heparin and the blood samples should be placed on rotating invertor during incubation.

  • Collapse was one of the typical common geological hazards during the construction of tunnels. The risk assessment of collapse was an effective way to ensure the safety of tunnels. We established a prediction model of collapse based on Bayesian Network. 76 large or medium collapses in China were analyzed. The variable set and range of the model were determined according to the statistics. A collapse prediction software was developed and its veracity was also evaluated. At last the software was used to predict tunnel collapses. It effectively evaded the disaster. Establishing the platform can be subsequent perfect. The platform can also be applied to the risk assessment of other tunnel engineering.

  • This study aimed to investigate the effect of initial member length an imperfection in the load carrying capacity of double-layer domes space structures. First, for the member length imperfection of each member, a random number is generated from a normal distribution. Thereupon, the amount of the imperfection randomly varies from one member to another. Afterwards, based on the Push Down analysis, the collapse behavior and the ultimate capacity of the considered structure is determined using nonlinear analysis performed by the OpenSees software and this procedure is repeated numerous times by Monte Carlo simulation method. Finally, the reliability of structures is determined. The results show that the collapse behavior of double-layer domes space structures is highly sensitive to the random distribution of initial imperfections.

  • This paper presents a variant of the Harmony Search Algorithm (HS) and its application to discrete optimization. The main proposed modifications regarding original HS are related to stopping criterion and reinitialization of population, called Harmony Memory. In order to investigate the efficiency of the algorithm, it was applied for obtaining optimal sections of reinforced concrete columns subjected to uniaxial flexural compression. To minimize the cost of the section, the amount and diameters of the reinforcement bars and the dimensions of the columns cross sections were considered as design variables. The obtained results were compared to those generated by other optimization methods. Since, to the examples, Harmony Search reached the same results achieved by Simulated Annealing, some additional analysis are presented in order to compare these methods regarding success rate and number of iterations to reach the optimum.

  • The composite plate to upgrade structures and, in particular, to extend the lives of reinforced concrete beams has wide applications. One of the main aspects of the bonded strengthening technology is the stress analysis of the reinforced structure. In particular, reliable evaluation of the adhesive shear stress and of the stress in the composite plates is mandatory in order to predict the beam's failure load. In this paper, a finite element analysis is presented to calculate the stresses in the reinforced beam under mechanical loads. The numerical results was compared with the analytical approach, and a parametric study was carried out to show how the maximum stresses have been influenced by the material and geometry parameters of the composite beam.
