The extended Born, or localized nonlinear approximation of integral equation (IE) solution has been applied to inverting single-hole electromagnetic (EM) data using a cylindrically symmetric model. The extended Born approximation is less accurate than a full solution but much superior to the simple Born approximation. When applied to the cylindrically symmetric model with a vertical magnetic dipole source, however, the accuracy of the extended Born approximation is greatly improved because the electric field is scalar and continuous everywhere. One of the most important steps in the inversion is the selection of a proper regularization parameter for stability. Occam's inversion (Constable et al., 1987) is an excellent method for obtaining a stable inverse solution. It is extremely slow when combined with a differential equation method because many forward simulations are needed but suitable for the extended Born solution because the Green's functions, the most time consuming part in IE methods, are repeatedly re-usable throughout the inversion. In addition, the If formulation also readily contains a sensitivity matrix, which can be revised at each iteration at little expense. The inversion algorithm developed in this study is quite stable and fast even if the optimum regularization parameter Is sought at each iteration step. Tn this paper we show inversion results using synthetic data obtained from a finite-element method and field data as well.

This paper presented the extraction solution for the coupling coefficient at the magnetically coupled wireless power transmission(WPT) system through the analysis of its equivalent circuit considering the loss. The conventional extraction solution using coupled mode theory is generalized employing the extracted solution considering the load resistance. Consequently, the measuring process of extracting coupling coefficient becomes convenient since the even/odd mode analysis is not necessary. Furthermore, the coupling coefficient obtained from the induced extraction method was in excellent agreement with the coupling coefficient obtained using the ratio of magnetic flux passing through the two loops. The extraction of the accurate coupling coefficient at the magnetically coupled WPT is an essential work to analyze and optimize the WPT system.

The understanding and prediction of the behavior of flow in open channels are important to the solution of a wide variety of practical flow problems in water resources engineering. Recently, frequent drought has increased the necessity of an effective water resources control and management of river flows for reserving instream flow. The objective of this study is to develop an efficient and accurate finite element model based on Streamline Upwind/Petrov-Galerkin(SU/PG) scheme for analyzing and predicting two dimensional flow features in complex natural rivers. Several tests were performed in developed all elements(4-Node, 6-Node, 8-Node elements) for the purpose of validation and verification of the developed model. The U-shaped channel of flow and natural river of flow were performed for tests. The results were compared with these of laboratory experiments and RMA-2 model. Such results showed that solutions of high order elements were better accurate and improved than those of linear elements. Also, the suggested model displayed reasonable velocity distribution compare to RMA-2 model in meandering domain for application of natural river flow. Accordingly, the developed finite element model is feasible and produces reliable results for simulation of two dimensional natural river flow. Also, One contribution of this study is to present that results can lead to significant gain in analyzing the accurate flow behavior associated with hydraulic structure such as weir and water intake station and flow of chute and pool.

Cranke-Nicolson scheme in native OpenFOAM source libraries was not able to provide 2nd order temporal accuracy of velocity and pressure since the volume flux of convective nonlinear terms was 1st accurate in time. In the present study the simplest way of getting the volume flux with 2nd order accuracy was proposed by using old fluxes. A possible numerical instability originated from an explicit estimation of volume fluxes could be handled by introducing a weighting factor which was determined by observing the ratio of the finally corrected volume flux to the intermediate volume flux at the previous step. The new calculation of volume fluxes was able to provide temporally accurate velocity and pressure with 2nd order. The improvement of temporal accuracy was validated by performing numerical simulations of 2D Taylor-Green vortex of which an exact solution was known and 2D vortex shedding from a circular cylinder.
In the present study, a least square weighted residual method and Taylor-Galerkin method were formulated and tested for the discretization of the two hyperbolic type equations of level set method; advection and reinitialization equations. The two approaches were compared by solving a time reversed vortex flow and three-dimensional broken dam flow by employing a four-step splitting finite element method for the solution of the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. From the numerical experiments, it was shown that the least square method is more accurate and conservative than Taylor-Galerkin method and both methods are approximately first order accurate when both advection and reinitialization phase are involved in the evolution of free surface.
By a SLAM (simultaneous localization and mapping) method, we get a map of an environment for autonomous navigation of a robot. In this case, we want to know how accurate the map is. Or we want to know which map is more accurate when different maps can be obtained by different SLAM methods. So, several methods for map comparison have been studied, but they have their own drawbacks. In this paper, we propose a new method which compares the accuracy or error of maps relatively and quantitatively. This method sets many corresponding points on both reference map and SLAM map, and computes the translational and rotational values of all corresponding points using least-squares solution. Analyzing the standard deviations of all translational and rotational values, we can know the error of two maps. This method can consider both local and global errors while other methods can deal with one of them, and this is verified by a series of simulations and real world experiments.

Tracking filter plays a key role in accurate estimation and prediction of maneuvering vessel's dynamics. The third-order ${\alpha}-{\beta}-{\gamma}$ filter is one of the special cases of the general solution provided by the Kalman filter. Fading memory algorithm performs a better performance in numerous of ${\alpha}-{\beta}-{\gamma}$ filter algorithms. This study aims to optimize the fourth-order fading memory algorithm ${\alpha}-{\beta}-{\gamma}-{\eta}$ filter, which is extended form ${\alpha}-{\beta}-{\gamma}$ filter, to get much more accurate position of high dynamic target on the condition that the own ship is also high dynamic.
This paper presents a performance characteristic analysis methodology for a linear induction motor used for a lightweight train. In general, an analytical method cannot provide accurate results in a linear motor because of large airgap, end effect, transverse edge effect, 3-dimensional configurations, large leakage, and so on. Besides, a numerical method requires lots of memory and solving time for transient analysis. However, the suggested methodology which is a kind of hybrid solution with an analytical method and a numerical method is very fast and accurate. Based on the methodology, 3-D FEM analyses for various design schemes of the secondary reaction plate have been done and from the analysis results, the best configuration for an urban railway transit is chosen.
This paper studied the temperature distribution and heat transfer at a rectangular cross-section. Particularly, as we have known that FEM6, FEM10 can be able to divide FEM3 (25), FEM 3 (49) and we observed it with the details. The approximate solutions (FDM, FEM 3, FEM 3 (25), FEM 3 (49), FEM(6) were compared to the 2-dimensional exact solution. The results of this paper show that FEM 6 is the most accurate temperature profiles and heat transfer, furthermore mean values of the FEM 6 is more accurate than FEM 3(25) and FEM 3 (49).
Most of automobile member parts experience severe springback problems because of their complicated shape and high yielding strength. Now it becomes imperative to develop an effective method to resolve these problems. However, there remain several obstacles to get accurate estimation of dimensional shape. Especially the effective algorithms to simulate sheet metal forming processes including drawing, trimming, flanging and springback is demanded for the multi stage simulation of automobile member parts. In this study, for the purpose of accurate springback calculation, a simulation program which is robust in springback analysis is developed. Favorable enhancement in computation time for springback analysis by using latest equation solving technique and robust solution convergence by continuation method are achieved with the program. In analysis, the multi processes of rear side member are simulated to verify the system. For the evaluation of springback accuracy practically, all conditions including boundary conditions for springback analysis and inspection conditions for dimensional accuracy are applied. The springback results of simulations show good agreement with the experiments.
