In this paper, a new algorithm for adaptive IIR filters based on equation error methods using the RLS algorithm is proposed. In the proposed algorithm, the concept of feedback of the scaled output error proposed by tin and Unbehauen is employed and the forgetting factor is varied in adaptation process for avoiding the accumulation of the estimation error for additive noise . The proposed algorithm has the good convergence property without the parameter estimation error under the existence of mea-surement noise.

According as radiation therapy technique develops, standardization of radiation therapy has been complicated by the plan QA(Quality Assurance). However, plan QA tools are two type, OADT (opposite accumulation dose tool) and 3DADT (3 dimensional accumulation dose tool). OADT is not applied to evaluation of beam path. Therefore tolerance error of beam path will establish measurement value at OADT. Plan is six beam path, five irradiation field at each beam path. And beam path error is 0 degree, 0.2 degree, 0.4 degree, 0.6 degree, 0.6 degree, 0.8 degree. Plan QA accomplishes at OADT, 3DADT. The more path error increases, the more plan QA error increases. Tolerance error of OADT path is 0.357 using tolerance error of conventional plan QA. Henceforth plan QA using OADT will include beam path error. In addition, It will increase reliability through precise and various plan technique.
This study evaluates the variation of estimation error of area-average rainfall due to rainfall seasonality. Both the cases considering and not considering the spatial correlation are compared to derive the characteristics of estimation error. Similar cases with different accumulation time without considering the rainfall seasonality are also investigated. This study was applied to the Geum-river basin with total 28 rain gauge measurements haying more than 30 years of daily rainfall measurements. As results of the study we found that: (1) The absolute estimation error of monthly area-average rainfall show strong seasonality like the total rainfall amount. However, the relative estimation error normalized by its mean was estimated to have similar values about 5 to 8% except January and December. (2) The relative estimation error of annual area-average rainfall estimated was found to have the estimation error about 3% of its annual mean. (3) However, the relative estimation error normalized by the standard deviation remains almost the same for both monthly and annual rainfall amounts, which was estimated about 11% of its standard deviation. (4) Finally, the estimation error without considering the spatial correlation was found to become almost twice the estimation error with considering the spatial correlation.

In induction machine drive without a speed sensor, the estimation of the motor flux and speed often becomes deteriorated at low speeds with low back EMF. Our analysis shows that, in addition to the state resistance variation, the estimated value of field orientation angle is often corrupted by accumulative errors from the integration of voltage variables at motor terminals that have low signal/noise ratio at low frequencies. A repetitive loop path of integration in the feedback can amplify this type of error, thus speeding up the degradation process. The control system runs into information starvation due to the loss of correct field orientation. The machine's spiral vectors are controlled only in a reduced dimension in this situation. A novel control scheme is developed to improve the control performance of motor's current, torque and speed at low frequencies. The scheme gains a full-dimensional vector control and is less sensitive to the combined effect of the error sources at the low frequencies. Experimental tests demonstrate promising performances are achievable even below 0.5 Hz.

Thispapr proposes hybrid navigation parameter estimation using sequential aerial images. The proposed navigation parameter estimation system is composed of two parts: relative position estimation and absolute position estimation. the relative position estimation recursively computes the current velocity and absolute position estimation. The relative position estimation recursively computes the current velocity and position of an aircraft by accumulating navigation parameters extracted from two succesive aerial images. Simple accumulation of parameter values decreases reliability of the extracted parameters as an aircraft goes on navigating. therefore absolute position estimation is required to compensate for position error generated in the relative position step. The absolute position estimation algorithm combining image matching and digital elevation model(DEM) matching is presented. Computer simulation with real aerial image sequences shows the efficiency of the proposed hybrial algorithm.
With video compression standards such as MPEG-4, a transmission error happens in a video-packet basis, rather than in a macroblock basis. In this context, we propose a semantic error prioritization method that determines the size of a video packet based on the importance of its contents. A video packet length is made to be short for an important area such as a facial area in order to reduce the possibility of error accumulation. To facilitate the semantic error prioritization, an efficient hardware algorithm for face tracking is proposed. The increase of hardware complexity is minimal because a motion estimation engine is efficiently re-used for face tracking. Experimental results demonstrate that the facial area is well protected with the proposed scheme.

For the safe driving of autonomous vehicles, accurate position estimation is required. Generally, position error must be less than 1m because of lane keeping. However, GPS positioning error is more than 1m. Therefore, we must correct this error and a map matching algorithm is generally used. Especially, road marking intensity map have been used in many studies. In previous work, 3D LIDAR with many vertical layers was used to generate a local intensity map. Because it can be obtained sufficient longitudinal information for map matching. However, it is expensive and sufficient road marking information cannot be obtained in rush hour situations. In this paper, we propose a localization algorithm using an accumulated intensity local map. An accumulated intensity local map can be generated with sufficient longitudinal information using 3D LIDAR with a few vertical layers. Using this algorithm, we can also obtain sufficient intensity information in rush hour situations. Thus, it is possible to increase the reliability of the map matching and get accurate position estimation result. In the experimental result, the lateral RMS position error is about 0.12m and the longitudinal RMS error is about 0.19m.

A spatial interpolation scheme incorporating local geographic potential for cold air accumulation (TOPSIM) was used to test the feasibility of operational frost warning in Chatancheon basin in Yeoncheon County, where the introduction of new crops including temperate zone fruits is planned. Air temperature from April to June 2003 was measured at one-minute intervals at four locations within the basin. Cold-air accumulation potentials (CAP) at 4 sites were calculated for 3 different catchment scales: a rectangular area of 65 x 55 km which covers the whole county, the KOWACO (Korea Water Corporation) hydrologic unit which includes all 4 sites, and the sub-basins delineated by a stream network analysis of the digital elevation model. Daily minimum temperatures at 4 sites were calculated by interpolating the perfect prognosis (i.e., synoptic observations at KMA Dongducheon station) based on TOPSIM with 3 different CAPs. Mean error, mean absolute error, and root mean square error were calculated for 45 days with no precipitation to test the model performance. For the 3 flat locations, little difference was detected in model performance among 3 catchment areas, but the best performance was found with the CAPs calculated for sub-basins at one site (Oksan) on complex terrain. When TOPSIM loaded with sub-basin CAPs was applied to Oksan to predict frost events during the fruit flowering period in 2004, the goodness of fit was sufficient for making an operational frost warning system for mountainous areas.

This paper presents an integrated method for aircraft position estimation using sequential aerial images. The proposed integrated system for position estimation is composed of two parts: relative position estimation and absolute position estimation. Relative position estimation recursively computes the current position of an aircraft by accumulating relative displacement estimates extracted from two successive aerial images. Simple accumulation of parameter values decreases reliability of the extracted parameter estimates as an aircraft goes on navigating, resulting in large position error. Therefore absolute position estimation is required to compensate for the position error generated in relative position estimation. Absolute position estimation algorithms by image matching or digital elevation model (DEM) matching are presented. In image matching, a robust oriented Hausdorff measure (ROHM) is employed whereas in DEM matching an algorithm using multiple image pairs is used. Computer simulation with four real aerial image sequences shows the effectiveness of the proposed integrated position estimation algorithm.
The errors in retrieved aerosol backscattering coefficients due to different lidar ratios are analyzed quantitatively in this paper. The actual calculation shows that the inversion error of the aerosol backscattering coefficients using the Fernald backward-integration method increases with increasing inversion distance. The greater the error in the lidar ratio, the faster the error in the aerosol backscattering coefficient increases. For the same error in lidar ratio, the smaller actual aerosol backscattering coefficient will get the larger relative error of the retrieved aerosol backscattering coefficient. The errors in the lidar ratios for dust or the cirrus layer have great impact on the retrievals of backscattering coefficients. The interval between the retrieved height and the reference range is one of the important factors for the derived error in the aerosol backscattering coefficient, which is revealed quantitatively for the first time in this paper. The conclusions of this article can provide a basis for error estimation in retrieved backscattering coefficients of background aerosols, dust and cirrus layer. The errors in the lidar ratio of an aerosol layer influence the retrievals of backscattering coefficients for the aerosol layer below it.
