In this study, accelerated corrosion tests were conducted on concrete specimens with and without accelerated carbonation beforehand for the purpose of elucidating the effects of carbonation, cover depth, and water-cement ratio (W/C) on the reinforcement corrosion. During testing, the corrosion current between the anode steel and cathode stainless steel was measured to continuously monitor the progress of corrosion throughout the test period, thereby investigating the mechanism of reinforcement corrosion and the relationship between corrosion and crack width, as well as other parameters.
By operation in aqueous environment at high temperature and pressure, the structural materials from Primary Heat Transport System (PHTS) cover with protective oxide films, which maintain the corrosion rate in admissible limits. A lot of potential factors exist, which conduct to degradation of the protective films and consequently to intensification of the corrosion processes. The existing experience of different nuclear reactors shows that the water chemistry has an important role in integrity maintaining of the protective oxide films. To investigate the influence of water chemistry (pH, O2 dissolved, $Cl^-$, $F^-$) on corrosion of some structural materials (carbon and martensitic steel, Zr and Ni alloys) and to establish the maximum permissible values, corrosion experiments by static autoclaving and electrochemical methods were performed. The experimental results allowed us to establish the contribution of the water chemistry in initiation and evolution of some accelerated corrosion processes.

As a fundamental study on the corrosion resistance of reinforced concrete structures using Natural Inorganic Minerals exposed to carbonation environment, The test specimens were concrete(W/C=60%) with Natural Inorganic Minerals content of 0%, 10%. Accelerated carbonation and autoclave corrosion accelerated curing were then conducted with them. The corrosion resistance of steel in concrete with Natural Inorganic Minerals content of 0%, 10% was examined by corrosion form, half-cell potential, polarization resistance, corrosion area and weight loss after 24 hours of autoclave corrosion accelerated curing. The results of the study showed that as for steel in concrete with Natural Inorganic Minerals content of 10%, the corrosion resistance was more excellent than steel in concrete with Natural Inorganic Minerals content of 0%.

This paper reports the results of an experimental program involving several small-scale columns which were constructed to simulate corrosion damage in the field using two accelerated corrosion techniques namely, constant voltage and constant current. A total of six columns were cast for this experiment. For one pair of regular RC columns, corrosion was accelerated using constant voltage and for another pair, corrosion was accelerated using constant current. The remaining pair of regular RC columns was used as control. In the experiment, all the columns were subjected to cyclic wetting and drying using sodium chloride (NaCl) solution. The currents were monitored on an hourly interval and cracks were visually checked throughout the test program. After the specimens had suffered sufficient percentage steel loss, all the columns including the control were tested to failure in compression. The test results generated show that accelerated corrosion using impressed constant current produces more corrosion damage than that using constant voltage. The results suggest that the constant current approach can be better used to simulate corrosion damage of reinforced concrete structures and to assess the effectiveness of various materials, repair strategies and admixtures to resist corrosion damage.

Rebar corrosion in concrete containing both chloride ions and calcium nitrite inhibitors were investigated by the various electrochemical methods. Rebar corrosion was accelerated by applying the impressed current to the rebar in concrete. Effect of chloride content and inhibitors on rebar corrosion were evaluated. Accelerated corrosion technique is the method to measure the time to the initiation of cracks of reinforced concretes, by applying constant voltage between rebar and the stainless steel cathedes. The increase of concentration of chloride ions in concrete result in the increase in anodic currents and the reduction of time to crack. However addition of inhibitors did not improve corrosion resistance of rebar in concrete. Rebar corrosion in concrete with chloride ions and inhibitors was also analyzed by the immersed tests though the mesurement of corrosion potentials.

In this study, we investigated the corrosion damage characteristics of steel for offshore wind turbine tower substructure using an accelerated electrochemical test. The galvanostatic corrosion test method was employed with a conventional 3 electrode cell in natural sea water, and the steel specimen was served as a working electrode to induce corrosion in an accelerated manner. Surface and cross-sectional image of the damaged area were obtained by optical microscope and scanning electron microscope. The weight of the specimens was measured to determine the gravimetric change before and after corrosion test. The result revealed that the steel tended to suffer uniform corrosion rather than localized corrosion due to active dissolution reaction under the constant current regime. With increasing galvanostatic current density, the damage depth and surface roughness of surface was increased, showing approximately 25 times difference in damage depth between the lowest current density ($1mA/cm^2$) and the highest current density ($200mA/cm^2$). The gravimetric observation showed that the weight loss was proportionally increased with increment of current density that has 75 times different according by experimental conditions. Consequently, uniform corrosion of the steel specimen was conveniently induced by the electrochemically accelerated corrosion technique, and it was possible to control the extent of the corrosion damage by varying the current density.
Corrosion is important reason for the deterioration of the bond between reinforcing steel and the surrounding concrete. Corrosion of the steel mainly depends on its microstructure. Smooth S220, ribbed S420 and S500 grade reinforcing steels were used in the experiments. Samples were subjected to accelerated corrosion. Pullout tests were carried out to evaluate the effects of corrosion on bond strength of the specimens. S500 grade steel which has tempered martensite microstructure showed lower corrosion rate in concrete than S220 and S420 steels which have ferrite+perlite microstructure. S500 grade steel showed highest bond strength among the other steel grades in concrete. Bond strength between reinforcing steel and concrete increased with increase in the strength of steel and concrete. It also depends on whether reinforcing bar is ribbed or not.
Flow-Accelerated Corrosion behavior concerning both activation and mass transfer process of SA106 Gr.C steel was studied using rotating cylinder electrode in room temperature alkaline solution by DC and AC electrochemical techniques. Passive film was tanned from pH 9.8 by step oxidation of ferrous product into hydroxyl compound. Corrosion potential shifted slightly upward with rotating velocity through the diffusion of cathodic species. Corrosion current density increased with rotating velocity in pH 6.98, while it soon saturated from 1000 rpm at above pH 9.8. On the other hand the limiting current increased with rotating speed regardless of pH values. It seems that activation process, which represents formation of passive film on the bare metal surface, controls the entire corrosion kinetics
Flow-Accelerated Corrosion Behavior of SA106 Gr.C steel in room temperature alkaline solution simulating the CANDU primary water condition was studied using Rotating Cylinder Electrode. Systems of RCE were set up and electrochemical parameters were applied at various rotating speeds. Corrosion current density decreased up to pH 10.4 then it increased rapidly at higher pH. This is due to the increasing tendency of cathodic and anodic exchange half-cell current. Corrosion potential shifted slightly upward with rotating velocity. Passive film was formed from pH 9.8 by the mechanism of step oxidation and the subsequent precipitation of ferrous species into hydroxyl compound. Above pH 10.4, the film formation process was active and the film became stable. Corrosion current density showed increment in pH 6.98 with the rotating velocity, while it soon saturated from 1000 rpm above pH 9.8. This seems that activation process which represents formation of passive film on the bare metal surface controls the entire corrosion process

In this study, the electric accelerated reinforcing bar corrosion test was carried out to estimate the coefficient of electrolytic corrosion based on the concept of Faraday's law according to rebar corrosion rate and concrete compressive strength which had an effect on the actual corrosion mass loss. The results of this paper allow the prediction of corrosion amount in the electric accelerated reinforcing bar corrosion test method.
