This research analyzed procedural problems presented in academic writing faced by international students. The result of this research will serve as a basis for suggesting methods of developing a curriculum in Korean writing as a liberal arts education designed for international students. To analyze problems presented in academic writing by international students, the standard of assessment was divided into interaction, knowledge construction, and material quotation. Then, knowledge construction was divided into contents, structure, and expression, and the items were subdivided in each category. These categories of assessment correspond to the genre of academic writing and are different from the existing standard of assessment for academic writing. Applying these standards, this research analyzed 43 texts of academic writing in process for a final paper by international students in an class and presented problems in them. Furthermore, this paper aims to give detailed feedback that can help solve those problems.

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between writing self-efficacy and academic achievement in a project-based university writing class, and the mediating effect of reflective journal writing. A total of 135 college students participated in the study. The results showed that students with higher writing self-efficacy had higher academic achievement and wrote more reflective journaling. Reflective journaling was found to have a positive impact on reviewing learned content, improving metacognition and memory, and promoting idea development. Overall, consistent reflective journal writing not only enhanced writing self-efficacy but also positively influenced academic performance.

한국어 교육에서 쓰기 교육의 논의가 본격화되면서 글의 장르와 그 교육에 대한 논의는 현재까지 가장 큰 화두가 되는 주제이다. 그리고 학술적 글쓰기는 학문 목적 한국어 교육에 대한 수요가 늘어나면서 과거에도 현재에도 한국어 쓰기 교육 내 가장 큰 연구 주제가 되었다. 학술적 글쓰기는 작문의 한 영역으로, 문예적 글쓰기와는 물론이고 실용적 글쓰기와도 확연히 구분되는 영역이다. 특정 학문 주제 또는 연구 문제에 대한 일련의 정보가 제공된 상태에서 이루어지며, 그 내용은 일반적으로 해당 주제의 주장 및 견해, 문제의 사안에 대해 파악하여 해당 주장 및 견해를 비판하거나 새로운 시각에서 문제 해결을 위한 대안을 제공하는 것이다. 학문 목적 한국어 학습자, 통칭 외국인 유학생은 그 용어 그대로 학문 수양을 목적으로 한국어를 학습한다. 기본적으로 한국어를 활용해 학술적 글쓰기를 수행할 수밖에 없는 상황에 놓이는 외국인 유학생들은 필연적으로 분석적 글쓰기라는 과제에 당면하게 된다. 본고는 외국인 유학생에게 주어지는 분석적 글쓰기라는 과제란 무엇인지에 대해 탐구하고 이를 교육하기 위해 필요한 연구 문제들을 파악하는 데 목적이 있다. 외국인 유학생이 학술적 글쓰기 과제로 분석적 글쓰기를 접하게 되었을 때 교육은 어떤 부분에 주의하며 이루어져야 하는지 명확히 하고자 하였다.

EMI (English as a Medium of Instruction) classes are now accepted policy at Korean universities, yet students often struggle with required academic English writings. The present study examined an EMI class that used direct instruction and access to online assistive English writing software. From preliminary analysis, 26 students expressed interest in how an EMI academic writing class could facilitate improved English writing skills. Study participants completed a survey on self-efficacy and learning needs and assignments for an EMI academic writing class. To establish inter-rater reliability, three trained raters assessed the written essays of students prior to and after instructional intervention. Fleiss' Kappas statistics showed moderate reliability. Students' opinions on the use of online software were also analysed. Paired t-test was run on the quality of students' pre- and post-instruction assignments, and there was significant difference in the rated scores. Self-efficacy was found to have moderate positive association with improved post-essay writing scores.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of science journal writing on science-related attitude and science academic achievement of elementary school students in order to find out the value of science journal writing. For this purpose, one class of 6th graders was tested. The result of this study were as follows: First, Science journal are classfied by forms and content. The most frequently used types are prose and organizing concept. Second, Science journal writing brought positive effects on science - related attitude, especially cognition of science. Third, Science journal writing has positive effect on science academic achievement. Therefore Science Journal Writing can be useful method in Science education.

정보활용능력 교육의 일환으로 일부 대학도서관에서 과제 작성 교육을 실시하고 있다. 과제 작성 교육은 대학생들이 과제 작성을 위해 거쳐야 하는 과정, 즉, 주제선정, 정보 유형 및 소재 파악, 정보검색, 인용 및 참고문헌 작성, 표절 유형 그리고 과제 작성 구성 체재(표지 목차 본문구성)에 관한 교육 등을 주된 내용으로 히는 교육이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 과제 작성 교육을 실시하고 있는 대학도서관을 대상으로 그 교육시기, 교육방법, 교육자, 교육내용 등을 조사하였다. 조사결과 대학도서관에서는 정보 유형 및 소재 파악과 정보검색 부분에 많은 치중을 두고 있었으며 인용 및 참고문헌 작성 특히 표절 관련 교육은 미흡한 부분이 있었다. 그리고 주제선정과 과제 작성 구성 체재 교육은 실시하지 않는 도서관도 있었다. 교육방법에도 개선점이 필요했다. 본 연구결과는 교육을 실시하고 있는 그리고 앞으로 교육을 실시하게 될 대학도서관에 효율적인 자료를 제공할 수 있을 것이다.

인용 및 참고문헌 작성법은 대학생들의 과제작성과 정보활용능력 향상에 필수적인 교육과정이 되는 것으로, 대학도서관이 이러한 교육의 핵심 주체로서 상당한 영향을 미쳐왔다. 이에 본 연구는 현재 대학도서관에서 실시하고 있는 인용 및 참고문헌 작성법의 현황 및 내용을 조사 분석하였다. 그 결과, 서울 및 경기 소재 4년제 대학교 51개 중 9개 대학도서관에서 이러한 교육을 실시하고 있었다. 교육과정은 1곳을 제외하고 모두 '과제작성 교육'이라는 명칭 하에 세부적인 교육을 포함하고 있었으며, 오프라인 교육인 경우 사서가 교육을 실시하고 있었다. 교육내용은 인용 및 참고문헌 작성법에 관련된 부분교육을 실시하거나 또는 전혀 교육을 실시하지 않는 곳이 대부분이었다. 특히 표절의 정의와 유형 그리고 웹 사이트 기재방식에 관한 교육은 제대로 이루어지지 않고 있었다. 인용 및 참고문헌 작성법과 관련된 교육을 실시하는 대학도서관이 확대되고 그 교육내용 또한 좀 더 체계적으로 다루어질 필요가 있다.

This research aims to explore the relationships between academic writing ability and 'thinking styles' (capable of representing individual differences and diversity) in engineering freshmen in Korea, and to draw educational implications for the development of instructional strategies. (Academic) Writing is not just about conveying an idea or content, it is also about the representation of writer's self. In this perspective, there has been some research conducted on writing (process) and personality. However, to date, little attention has been paid to writing ability of engineering students and its relationships with thinking styles. This study was conducted with 127 engineering freshmen as well as 67 non-engineering freshmen at H University, and students' writing ability as well as their thinking styles have been measured before and after writing class for 15 weeks. Our findings show that firstly, there was a significant difference of writing ability by majors. Second, there were significant differences in freshmen's thinking styles by majors. Third, there was significant differences of writing ability according to thinking styles. Freshmen's internal, legislative and hierarchical styles scored significantly higher in writing ability than the others. And as for the engineering freshmen, internal, external and global styles scored significantly higher in writing ability than the others. Finally, there was a weak but significant relationship between writing ability and thinking styles(hierarchical & internal). These findings are expected to provide an explanation for the development of instructional strategies of writing (related) courses in engineering school.

This study investigates the effects of online English writing instruction on university students' writing performance and their anxiety. A total of 34 participants completed the pre- and post- writing tests as well as the surveys regarding perceived anxiety toward English writing. Reflection papers and interviews were employed to triangulate the results of the questionnaires. Quantitative analysis of learners' writing outcomes and surveys revealed that online writing instruction helped improve students' writing skills and reduce writing anxiety. The interviews and reflection papers demonstrated that learners found the writing instruction helpful in reducing somatic anxiety, avoidance behavior, and cognitive anxiety. The current study suggests that adopting non-face-to-face online writing instruction aids EFL students in developing their writing and alleviating writing anxiety.
