  • Today, the use of the sound absorptive material is increasing to improve the room acoustics in the auditorium and music hall, etc. Usually, the sound absorption materials have been used to enhance the performance of a noise barrier and improve the room acoustics in construction site. Generally, the sound absorbtion coefficients are the most important factor reflecting the sound absorbtion performance. There are two methods to measure the sound absorption coefficient. The first one is the reverberation room method, and the second is the impedance tube method. In this study, we measure the sound absorbtion coefficients using these two methods, and then we compared the results of the sound absorbtion coefficients to look into the difference of results between reverberation room method and impedance tube method. Also we compared the results of the sound absorbtion coefficients with respect to the size of sample and the volume of reverberation room. From the experiment, we could see that the sound absorbtion coefficients are measured equally for different sample size. But the sound absorbtion coefficients are measured differently according to test methods and test conditions.

  • We investigated the effect of spectral fitting wavelength interval variations and selection of absorption cross-section on the sulfur dioxide slant column density (SCD) retrievals from the scattered sunlight observation using a UV-Vis hyperspectral instrument. The sulfur dioxide slant column densities were retrieved from the combinations of multiple spectral fitting intervals and absorption cross-sections. The observation was carried out at the site 0.53 km away from a combustion site located in Gimhae from December 1, 2023, to January 23, 2024. The radiances were obtained on the line of measurement sight toward the stack of the combustion facility. The best spectral fitting intervals were found to be from 305.7 to 321.1 nm. In terms of the absorption cross-section dependency, the SO2 (293 K), O3 (223 K, 243 K) show the best spectral fitting for the observed radiances with both the smallest fitting residual and SCD error. The effects of the fitting interval and cross sections found in this study can be useful information for improving SO2 retrievals based on UV hyperspectral measurements.

  • Absorbable plates are used widely for fixation of facial bone fractures. Compared to conventional titanium plating systems, absorbable plates have many favorable traits. They are not palpable after plate absorption, which obviates the need for plate removal. Absorbable plate-related infections are relatively uncommon at less than 5% of patients undergoing fixation of facial bone fractures. The plates are made from a mixture of poly-L-lactic acid and poly-DL-lactic acid or poly-DL-lactic acid and polyglycolic acid, and the ratio of these biodegradable polymers is used to control the longevity of the plates. Degradation rate of absorbable plate is closely related to the chance of infection. Low degradation is associated with increased accumulation of plate debris, which in turn can increase the chance of infection. Predisposing factors for absorbable plate-related infection include the presence of maxillary sinusitis, plate proximity to incision site, and use of tobacco and significant amount of alcohol. Using short screws in fixating maxillary fracture accompanied maxillary sinusitis will increase the rate of infection. Avoiding fixating plates near the incision site will also minimize infection. Close observation until complete absorption of the plate is crucial, especially those who are smokers or heavy alcoholics. The management of plate infection is varied depending on the clinical situation. Severe infections require plate removal. Wound culture and radiologic exam are essential in treatment planning.

  • Species composition and the amount of nutrients absorbed by regenerating plants on a pine forest in the immediate postfire year were compared with those in an unburned pine forest in Kosung, Kangwon Province. Pteridium aquilinum var. latiusculum, Cyperus amuricus, Lespedeza biolor, Quercus serrata, Lysimachia clethroides were the most abundant species in burned area. In unburned area. Quercus mongolica, Rhododendron mucronulatum, Carex humilis, Rhododendron schlippenbachii, Spodiopogon sibiricus were the most abundant species. Standing biomass of understory vegetation in burned and unburned area was 170.2 g $D.W/m^2$ and 171.3g $D.W/m^2$, respectively. Nutrient concentrations of plants in burned area, especially for phosphorus and potassium, were higher than those in unburned area. The amounts of nutrients absorbed by understory plants in burned and unburned area were 37.4 and 33.6 kg/ha for N, 0.36 and 0.19 kg/ha for P, 30.6 and 18.8 kg/ha for K, 8.5 and 7.8 kg/ha Ca, 5.2 and 5.7 kg/ha for Mg, respectively. This suggests that regenerating vegetation can hold the significant amount of nutrients, although there may be considerable losses of nutrients from ecosystem after fire.

  • The noise by the construction activities is one of the main issues in Korea. To prevent the noise from construction site, construction company installs temporary noise barriers along the construction site boundary. Normally sound insulation performance ($R_w$) of the temporary noise barriers made by metal or plastic is between 18 and 31 dB and metallic noise barriers are around 5 dB higher than plastic noise barriers. Sound absorption performance (NRC) of the temporary noise barriers are between 0.20 and 0.59 so it's difficult to characterize their acoustic performance. In this study, it has founded that sound insulation performance of the temporary noise barrier has been improved about 3dB by stick the high density acoustic sheet and insertion loss of noise barrier is getting increased as the source and receiver approached the temporary noise barriers.

  • We have studied $Al_xFe_{3-x}O_4$ produced by direct composition method using X-ray diffraction and Mssbauer spectroscopy. The cation distribution for $Al_xFe_{3-x}O_4$ was determined by the ratio of sub-spectra absorption area. The charge state of Fe atoms in octahedral site(B-site) is $Fe^{2.5+}$ based on electron hopping, $Fe^{2+}$$(Fe^{3+},Al^{3+})$ without dependency of substituted Al amounts.

  • The purpose of this study were to interpret making characteristics and clay sources for Proto-Three Kingdoms period potteries which were excavated from Bakjimeure site in Tangjeong, Asan, Korea, on the basis of shape types. The pottery samples of the studied included deep bowl pottery, cylinder shaped pottery, duck shaped pottery and rounded based jar with short neck. And the last jar was dominant among them. This is supported in nearby Yongduri Jinter site, Galmaeri site and Baekseokdong site. They vary in terms of color of clay, absorption ratio and mineral classification. Based on the fact that their absorption ratio range was 4.50 to 25.19% and firing temperature range was 850 to $1,150^{\circ}C$, they were thought to be widely used. The equivalence of cylinder shaped pottery, duck shaped pottery and deep bowl pottery was high in terms of material characteristics and their firing temperature range was 850 to $950^{\circ}C$. However, the deep bowl pottery, compared to other pottery shapes, contained great amount of coarse grained quartz and feldspar, and was different from others in terms of function. For soil sample collected from relative plains (area 3) in the southernmost part of the site, their mineralogical and geochemical characteristics were the most similar to those of the potteries excavated from the Bakjimeure site and even most of the potteries collected from different sites.

  • This experiment was performed to investigate the response of inorganic substances in alveolar bone in relation to the experimental tooth movement. Right canine in maxillary jaw was tipped in cats by coil springs generating 80 gm. force, in mandibular jaw, the force was 100 gm. force. Cats were divided into five groups and orthodontically treated for one hour, 1, 7, 14 and 28 days, respectively. Alveolar bone samples were obtained from tension and compression sites as well as from contralateral control sites. The level of calcium of alveolar bone was determined by atomic absorption spectrophotometry and inorganic phosphorus was measured by spectrophotometry. The results obtained were as follows: 1. In tension and compression site of maxillary alveolar bone, calcium levels were decreased at 1, 7 and 14 days, but recovered at 28 days. 2. The levels of inorganic phosphorus in compression site of maxillary alveolar bone had little change but in tension site of maxillary alveolar bone , phosphorous levels were decreased, 3. Calcium levels in tension and compression site of mandibular alveolar bone were decreased, especially at 28 days. 4. In tension and compression site of mandibular alveolar bone, inorganic phosphorus were slightly decreased from 1 day.

  • The chromophore/protein interactions in the photocycle intermediates of photoactive yel- low protein (PYP) were probed by site-directed mutagenesis. The absorption spectra of L- intermediates produced from E46Q, T50V, and R52Q mutants were calculated using the absorption spectra of dark states and difference absorption spectra between L-intermediates and dark states, and compared with that of PYP$\_$L/. The absorption spectrum of R52Q$\_$L/ agreed with that of PYP$\_$L/, but those of E46Q$\_$L/ and T50V$\_$L/ were red-shifted. The effect of these mutations on the absorption spectrum for L-intermediate was comparable to that for the dark state, suggesting that the interaction around the phe-nolic oxygen of the chromophore is conserved in PYP$\_$L/ unlike the crystal structure. On the other hand, we have reported that the absorption spectra of Y 42F$\_$M/, T50V $\_$M/, and R52Q$\_$M/ agreed with that of PYP$\_$M/, but that of E46Q$\_$M/ was red-shifted, suggesting that the hydrogen bond of the chromophore with Glu46 is conserved but that with Tyr42 is broken in PYP$\_$M/. These results suggest that the chromophore inter-acts with Glu46 throughout the photocycle, but never directly interacts with Arg52. This model con- flicts with some of the structural model of PYP intermediates proposed based on the high-resolution X -ray crystallography.

  • Background: Physicians tend to overcorrect when applying the acellular dermal matrix for reconstructive option because of volume decrement problem after absorption comparing with initial volume. However, there are no studies on the exact volume decrement and absorption rate with commercial products in South Korea. To figure out absorption rate of acellular dermal matrix product in South Korea (Megaderm), authors designed this experiment. Methods: Nine mice were used and randomly divided into three groups by the time with sacrificing. The implant (Megaderm) was tailored to fit a cuboid form ($1.0cm{\times}1.0cm$ in length and width and 2.0 mm in thickness). A skin incision was made at anterior chest with blade #15 scalpel with exposing the pectoralis major muscle. As hydrated Megaderm was located upon the pectoralis major muscle, the skin was sutured with Ethilon #5-0. After the surgical procedure, each animal group was sacrificed at 4, 8, and 12 weeks, respectively, for biopsies and histological analysis of the implants. All samples were stained with routine hematoxylin and eosin staining and Masson's trichrome staining and the thickness were measured. A measurements were analyzed using Friedman test. Statistically, the correlation between thicknesses of Megaderm before and after implantation was analyzed. Results: After sacrificing the animal groups at postoperative 4, 8, 12 weeks, the mean tissue thickness values were $2.10{\pm}1.03mm$, $2.17{\pm}0.21mm$, and $2.40{\pm}0.20mm$ (p= 0.368), respectively. The remaining ratios after absorption comparing with after initial hydrated Megaderm were 82.7%, 85.4%, and 94.5%, respectively. In histopathological findings, neovascularization and density of collagenous fiber was increased with time. Conclusion: Author's hypothesis was absorption rate of implant would be increased over time. But in this experiment, there is no statistical significance between mean absorption thickness of implant and the time (p= 0.368). Also it can be affected by graft site, blood supply, and animals that were used in the experiment.
