  • A synchrotron light source is useful in the vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) regime for olecular spectroscopy, such as photo absorption, photoionization, and dissociative hotoionization. In this research, we used a double-ion chamber (DIC) to measure hotoabsorption cross sections of a NO molecule in the wavelength range from 90 to 135 nm of 3B1 beam-line of the Pohang synchrotron light source with the resolution of the onochromator being 0.06 nm. The appearance wavelength for ionization was measured to be $134.19{\pm}0.09nm$ that is placed in the middle of the reported values though they don't agree with each other within the relative error limits. The auxiliary experimental works ave been done to test if there are any systematic error sources. The resultant ross-sections agree with previous results in general.

  • Intracavity second harmonic generation of diode pumped solid state lasers in the visible and ultraviolet regions provide efficient, compact and robust light sources for various applications, such as optical data storage, material processing, spectroscopy and bioanalysis. Advantages of neodymium vanadate (Nd:$YVO_4$) as a gain medium for intracavity-doubled lasers over Nd:YAG lie in the facts that the gain spectrum consists of a single line with short absorption depth, and that the stimulated emission cross sections are larger. • We report on the spatial information of a coupling laser transfer into a reflected probe laser; the transfer is achieved by means of electromagnetically induced transparency through a common excited state connected with $5S_{1/2}-5P_{1/2}(F=1{\rightarrow}F'=2)$ in the $^{87}Rb\;D_1$ line. When the coupling laser was spatially modulated as a stationary wave, the absorption of the probe laser was enhanced and the reflection of the probe laser was generated. When the coupling laser was spatially modulated by a mask, we observed that the reflection light of the probe laser was modulated as the shape of the mask. The Bragg reflection transferred the spatial information of the coupling laser. The reflection was approximately 7% of the incident power of the probe laser.

  • In order to investigate the effect of the interface on GMR, [NiFe(25 ${\AA}$)/Cu(24${\AA}$)]$_2$/Si thin film was epitaxially grown on HF-treated Si (001) substrate using a DC magnetron sputtering method. Typical GMR effects could be observed in epitaxial film with a weak antiferromagnetic exchange coupling while non epitaxial film showed unsaturated and broad MR curves probably due to inter-diffusion between NiFe and Cu layers. Ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) experiment showed two distinct absorption peaks in all films. Each peak was revealed to come from each NiFe layer with different magnetic property. In FMR measurement very clear interface in epitaxial films could be confirmed by a lower value of line width (ΔH) and higher M$\sub$s/ of epitaxial film than those of non epitaxial films, respectively.

  • $CeO_2$ nanorings were synthesized by using a surfactant free hydrothermal method. The surface morphology, structural and optical properties of the synthesized $CeO_2$ was investigated by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and ultraviolet-visible (UV) spectroscopy measurements. SEM images showed that the surface morphology of the formed $CeO_2$ appeared as nanorings. The XRD pattern of $CeO_2$ nanorings showed the presence of the polycrystalline $CeO_2$ phase readily indexed to the cubic fluorite structure of the $CeO_2$. The mean crystallite size of the $CeO_2$ was calculated using the Scherrer equation from the XRD line broadening of the (111) planes of the cubic $CeO_2$. The UV-Visible spectroscopy spectrum of the $CeO_2$ nanorings exhibited a strong UV absorption band around 350 nm.

  • The mammalian cortical collecting duct (CCD) plays a major role in regulating renal NaCl absorption, which is important in controlling total body Na and Cl homeostasis. The M-1 cell line, derived from the mouse cortical collecting duct, is being used as a mammalian model of the CCD to study electrolytes transport.(omitted)

  • This research tries to analyze and investigate the effects of the noise reduction test for the sound-absorbing materials installed tentatively on Metro Line 5. Though the noise reduction effects of each sound-absorbing material showed that there was about $2{\sim}5\;dB$ compared with before and after of the tentative installation, it shows that the noise reduction effects are reducing because of the section change condition such as dust absorption and the rail abrasion as time passes after the tentative installation. Also, many difficulties are occurring in the maintenance of the orbit facilities because of the installation of sound-absorbing materials. Though various abroad products for noise reduction are imported like this, the researches for the noise reduction effect increase for this and the improvement direction are being required because of the poor circumstance of the efficiency aspect compared to the economic investment effect because those are not suited to the character of domestic Metro.

  • Shells in early-type galaxies are low surface brightness tidal debris, which are wide concentric arcs of overdense stellar regions with large opening angles. The most widely accepted mechanism today for shell formation is the merger scenario, but the dominant merger type producing shells is not clearly understood yet: major/minor and wet/dry mergers. Since shells are regarded as smoking-gun evidence of merging events, detailed understanding of shell galaxies is very useful to constrain the formation process of early-type galaxies. In this study, we investigate the metallicity gradients of eight early-type shell galaxies using CALIFA IFU data to better understand the nature and origins of galaxy shells. We estimate simple stellar population properties out to three effective radius from the measurement of Lick/IDS absorption line indices. We compare the metallicity gradients of shell galaxies with those of normal early-type galaxies in the same mass range. In this presentation, we discuss how much the gradients of shell galaxies are different from those of normal early-type galaxies and what the existence of galaxy shells implies about galaxy formation.
