  • The magnetic abrasive machining has been developed as a new finishing technology to obtain a fine surface of workpiece. In this paper, a static magnetic field method and a magnetic abrasive brush which has many technical advantages, are applied for the magnetic abrasive machining. In the experiment, some items such as finishing time, ratio of the magnetic abrasives to Fe-powder, motor revolutions per minute, and motor ratio revolutions per minute are tested. The results of this study have shown the fact that the burr height is mostly affected by the finishing time and the abrasive ratio. Also, it has been found that the magnetic abrasive machining is a possible new technology for the deburring.

  • This paper suggests the selective ultra precision polishing techniques for micro die and mold parts using magnetic-assisted machining. Fabrication of magnetic abrasive particle and their polishing performance are key technology at ultra precision polishing process of micro parts. Conventional magnetic abrasives have disadvantages. which are missing of abrasive particle and inequality between magnetic particle and abrasive particle. So, bonded magnetic abrasive particles are fabricated by several method. For example, plasma melting and direct bonding. Ferrite and carbonyl iron powder are used as magnetic particle where silicon carbide and Al$_2$O$_3$ are abrasive particle. Developed particles are analyzed using measurement device such as SEM. Possibility of magnetic abrasive and polishing performance of this magnetic abrasive particles also have been investigated. After polishing, surface roughness of workpiece is reduced from 2.927 $\mu\textrm{m}$ Rmax to 0.453 $\mu\textrm{m}$ Rmax.

  • Abrasive flow machining is useful to abrasive polish a internal or external surface of the free shape dimensional parts, which are used in many fields such as machine tool parts, semi-conductor, and medical component industries. The machining process is that two hydraulic cylinders, which are located surface to surface, are enforce media to the passage between workpiece and tooling part alternately, and then the abrasives included in the media pass the passage and polish the surface of workpiece. The media which is made of polymer and abrasive plays complex have workpiece by its viscoelastic characteristics. In this study, the media for AMF was made by mixing viscoelastic polymer with alumina and silicon carbide abrasive respectively. As a result, alumina include media is also the experiments of deburring the inside burr of in order to analyse the deburring machinability of abrasive flow machining according to various machining parameters which were media flow rate extrusion pressure, passage gap, media viscosity, abrasive content, and abrasive grain size.

  • The magnetic polishing is the useful method to finish using magnetic power of magnet. This method is one of precision polishing techniques and has an aim of the clean technology using for the pure of gas and inside of the clean pipe for transportation. The magnetic abrasive polishing method is not so common for machine that it is not spreaded widely. There are rarely researcher in this field because of non-effectiveness of magnetic abrasive. Therefore, in this paper deals with development of the magnetic abrasive using worthless mineral. In this development, abrasive grain WA and GC used to resin bond fabricated low temperature. And magnetic material was fabricated from the worthless mineral which were closed into 200 mesh grit type. The XRD analysis result show that only WA and GC abrasive and worthless mineral crystal peaks detected which explains resin bond was not any more chemical reaction. From SEM analysis it is found that WA and GC abrasive and worthless mineral were strong bonding with each other by bond.

  • In this paper, we have investigated the characteristics of the magnetic abrasive using sludge on polishing of internal finishing of seamless stainless steel tube applying magnetic abrasive polishing. Either white alumina grain was used to resin sludge at a low temperature, and the sludge of magnetic abrasive powder was synthesized and crushed into 200 meshes. Surface roughness was measured before and after polishing, and more than 40% of improvement of surface roughness was achieved when grain was used under a specific condition. Even though some degree of surface roughness due to deeper scratches still exist, but the result showed a prospective magnetic abrasive polishing using sludge with white alumina grains.

  • In this study, we investigate the behavior of abrasive particles and change of the stick-slip pattern according to chemical mechanical polishing (CMP) process parameters when a large number of abrasive particles are fixed on a pad. The CMP process is simulated using the finite element method. In the simulation, the abrasive grains are composed of those used in the actual CMP process. Considering the cohesion of the abrasive grains with the start of the CMP process, abrasive particles with various sizes are fixed onto the pad at different intervals so that stick-slip could occur. In this analysis, we determine that when the abrasive particle size is relatively large, the stick-slip period does not change as the pressure increases while the moving speed is constant. However, if the size of the abrasive grains is relatively small, the amount of deformation of the grains increases due to the elasticity of the pad. Therefore, the stick-slip pattern may not be observed. As the number of abrasive particles increases, the stick-slip period and displacement decrease. This is consistent with the decrease in the von Mises yield stress value on the surface of the wafer as the number of abrasive grains increases. We determine that when the number of the abrasive grains increases, the polishing rate, and characteristics are improved, and scratches are reduced. Moreover, we establish that the period of stick-slip increases and the change of the stick-slip size was not large when the abrasive particle size was relatively small.

  • Achieving the maximum blasting efficiency with minimum abrasive consumption is a critical concern in surface preparation stage of shipbuilding and offshore industry. Increasing the abrasive flow rate beyond the optimum point results in a major reduction in productivity even though the amount of abrasive used is larger. So, this study is intend to find out the optimum abrasive-to-air mixing ratio which can make a significant improvement in blasting efficiency and remarkably reduce the amount of abrasive used. From the test results, it can be identified that as the abrasive feeding rate is increased linearly, blasting efficiency is increased to a maximum point and then gradually decreased in the form of a bell-shaped.

  • Linear cutting tests on granite were conducted to evaluated the cutting performance of abrasive water jet(AWJ) using several types of abrasives. The abrasives used in the tests were grarnet, alumimum oxide, and silicon carbide. And one type of granite which is comercially known as "KeuchangSuk" was used as workpiece throughout the tests. The results from the tests were described in terms of cutting depth and abrasive productivity. Authors tried to confirm the effects of the operational parameters of abrasive mass flow rate, water pressure, and traverse speed of nozzle on cutting depth and presented almost all the data obtained in the tests. Abrasive productivity can be defined as the area of kerf wall cut by unit weight of abrasive and is an important factor to evaluated the cutting ability of abrasive and assess the cost effectiveness of an AWJ system. In the tests the maximum abrasive productivities of garnet, alumina, and silicon carbide were about 0.21, 0.24, and 0.20 $\textrm{cm}^2$ respectively under similar operational conditions.onditions.
