Effect of Organoclay and Blends on the Abrasion Resistance and Mechanical Properties of Poly(styrene-block-butadiene-block-styrene)

  • To investigate organoclay, high styrene resin masterbatch (HSR), high impact polystyrene (HIPS), and polystyrene (PS) as reinforcing materials for the improvement of the abrasion resistance of poly(styrene-block-butadiene-block-styrene) (SBS), SBS/organoclay nanocomposites, SBS/HSR, SBS/HIPS, and SBS/PS blends were prepared. The effect of organoclay and blends on the abrasion resistance and mechanical properties of SBS was investigated. Even though intercalations of organoclay are observed for SBS/Cloisite 20A nanocomposites and not for SBS/Cloisite 30B composites, the abrasion resistance of SBS/Cloisite 20A nanocomposites is worse than that of SBS/Cloisite 30B composites. When SBS was blended with HSR, HIPS and PS, the abrasion resistance of the blends increases with increasing of HSR, HIPS and PS content from 0 to 20 wt%.

Alignment film abrasion caused by rubbing

  • The alignment film abrasion caused by the rubbing process was quantitatively evaluated via atomic-force microscopy (AFM). First, a patterned alignment film structure, which was molded through the imprint method, was artificially formed. Then, the surface topography of the alignment film was evaluated via AFM after rubbing, and the degree of abrasion of the alignment film was estimated by subtracting the value after rubbing from the value before rubbing. It was recognized that the degree of abrasion increased with an increase in the rubbing strength. The relationship between the number of rubbing cycles and the degree of abrasion of the alignment film was also estimated.

철도 밸러스트 선정 효율성에 대한 고찰 : 프랑스 채석장에 대한 사례연구 (Study on Effectiveness of Selection for Railway Ballast : Case Study on A Quarry in northen France)

  • 이 연구는 프랑스에서 사용되는 철도 밸러스트를 선정하는 규준에 대하여 논하고, 프랑스 북부에 위치하고 있는 한 채석장을 대상으로 철도 밸러스트 선정 효율성에 대한 연구를 수행하였다. 철도 밸러스트의 품질은 대부분 입도분포와 마모 저항성으로 평가된다. 마모 저항성은 로스앤젤레스 마모 실험과 마이크로 드발 실험에 의해 평가되며, 고속철도와 일반철도용 밸러스트의 품질은 이들 두 마모 지수에 의해 결정된다. 이 연구는 채석장의 생산 과정에서 단계가 다른 3 종류의 골재를 채취하여, 각각에 대하여 마모 실험을 수행하여 획득한 마모지수들의 상관관계를 분석하였다. 로스앤젤레스 마모 지수(LA)와 마이크로 드발 지수(MDA) 사이에는 높은 상관도를 보이고 있고, 단계별 골재들 사이의 마모 지수도 높은 상관도를 보이고 있다. 특히, 발파 직후 현장에서 채취한 골재의 마모 지수(LA 및 MDA)와 최종 생산 단계에서 채취한 골재의 마모 지수 사이의 상관관계를 이용하면, 현장에서 빠른 시일 내에 최종 골재의 품질을 큰 오차 없이 예측할 수 있어 작업 효율성이 증대할 것으로 기대된다.

일부 산업장 근로자의 치경부마모증에 관한 연구 (A study on the cervical abrasion in some industrial workers)

  • Objectives : This study was carried out to investigate stepwise regression analysis on cervical abrasion & general characteristics, subjective oral health perception, habit related to oral health, and oral symptom. Methods : The study subjects were 2,158 workers in 23 industrial work places located in Gumi-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do Province from June 1 to July 1, 2012. As a result, the following conclusions were obtained. Results : 1. The cervical abrasion rate was high in men and older age group. 2. The cervical abrasion rate was high in a case of having not received scaling for the past one year. 3. The cervical abrasion rate was high in frequent tooth brushing. 4. The cervical abrasion rate was high in group having no bleeding in tooth and the gum. 5. The cervical abrasion rate was high in group having the cold symptom in teeth. 6. Excluding gum pain and bleeding, factors affecting tooth abrasion were gender, age, scaling over the past year, frequency of brushing a day and tooth sensitivity when cold food was ingested. 7. Gender and tooth sensitivity turned out to have negative(-) effect. age, scaling over the past year and frequency of brushing a day turned out to have positive(+) effect. Conclusions : Through this study, the best prevention method of cervical abrason is effective tooth brushing education and regular dental check up.

양생조건에 따른 폴리머 시멘트 모르터의 내마모성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Abrasion Resistance of Polymer - Modified Mortar According to Curing Conditions)

  • In recent years, polymer-modified mortars using polymer dispersions have been widely used as finish and repair materials in the construction industry because of their excellent properties compares to those of ordinary cement mortar. Especially, the adhesion improvement of ordinary cement mortar and concrete has attracted a great deal of attention from researchers, and several unique and simply applicable techniques for the adhesion improvement have been developed. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the abrasion resistance of polymer-modified mortar according various curing methods. The polymer-modified mortar are prepared with various polymer-cement ratios, and are subjected to three curing methods such as dry rure, standard cure and freezing and thawing cure after two curing methods, and then tested for abrasion. From the test results, the polymer-modified mortars with various polymer-cement ratios have some superior abrasion resistance compared with plain mortar. The abrasion resistance of polymer-modified mortars increase with an increase in the polymer-cement ratio, and is better under water cure than any other curing methods. It is concluded that the abrasion resistance of cement mortar is markedly improved by modifying of polymer dispersion.

재생 초경합금 분말을 활용한 금속기지 복합재료의 Abrasion 마모거동 (Abrasion Wear Behavior of Recycled Tungsten Carbide Reinforced Metal Matrix Composite)

  • The abrasion wear behavior on the hardfacing weld was investigated by performing abrasion wear, hardness, and microstructural tests. The gas metal arc(GMA) weld was produced by using the cored wire which was filled with the hard metal, i.e., the recycled tungsten carbide (WC) reinforced metal matrix composite. For 30% addition of the hard metal, the abrasion wear resistance was significantly improved comparing with that for 20% addition of the hard metal. Above 30% addition of the hard metal, however, there was no significant improvement of the wear resistance. The improvement of the wear resistance was due to the increased amount of eutectic carbides(W$_{6}$C) which was formed during GMA welding. For the weld in which the hard metal was added to 30-40%, an optimum level of abrasion wear resistance was performed.

내구성 부직포의 마찰 및 세탁에 의한 인장강도 및 강연도 변화 (Changes in Tensile Strength and Stiffness of Selected Durable Nonwoven Fabrics due to Abrasion and Laundering*)

  • This research explored the effects of abrasion, laundering, and abrasion/laundering interaction upon wear of 15 durable nonwoven fabrics. Wear was measured in terms of changes in tensile strength and stiffness. The test materials consisted of nine different dry-laid commercial interfacing fabrics of various fiber contents and six spunbonded poyester and polypropylene fabrics. Three fixed levels of abrasion and four fixed levels of laundering made up the 3$\times$4 factorial analysis used for the experiment and the analysis of variance. Findings revealed that abrasion had a greater effect than laundering on strength and stiffness of the tested fabrics. Laundering seemed related to the particular fibers used and to the fixation quality of fiber bonds. Spunbonded webs performed better than dry-laid webs in retaining tensile strength Stiffness change occurred more readily than strength change. Lighter, flexible, stretchable fabrics seemed less easily abraded than heavier, stiff, less stretchable fabrics. The interfacing fabrics of 70/20/$10\%$ nylon/polyester/rayon blends with high crosswise stretchability effectively resisted wear caused by abrasion and laundering. Further research is recommended to study the effects of longer abrasion periods and additional laundering cycles o,1 wear qualities of nonwoven fabrics. Additional factors such as amount and fixation methods of bonding agents, the effect of shear distortion, seam construction, and drycleaning solvents could also be studied.

한국인의 치경부마모증 경험도에 관한 조사연구 (Study on the Cervical Abrasion Experience Rate in Korean Adults)

  • The authors, to collect some necessary data to promote correcting the toothbrushing method, the most basic home dental care, and to arrest the attention to the dentifrices in Korea, observed and evaluated the cervical abrasion experience rate in 8,000 Korean male and female adults from 19 to 52 years in the age, which had been extracted by the stratified random sampling method. The obtained results were as follows; 1. Cervical abrasion experience rate was 18.6% in Korean adults. 2. Cervical abrasion experience rate in male adults was higher than that in female adults. 3. Cervical abrasion experience rate was gradually increased by ageing. 4. It seemed the cervical abrasion experience rates in the adults in Honam and Youngnam district to be higher than those in the other districts. 5. In Korean adults, the further detail inveatigations into the cervical abrasion were required.

도금처리 탄화보드의 내마모성 및 표면경도 (Abrasion Resistance and Surface Hardness of Gold Plated Carbonized Board)

  • This research was performed to evaluate surface performance of gold plated carbonized board. After the carbonization at $850^{\circ}C$, volume, weight, and density decreased by 65.25%, 71.35% and 17.64%, respectively. Abrasion resistance and surface hardness of non-carbonized board exhibited the highest values of 0.093 g/100 revolution and 26.43 N/$mm^2$, respectively. Gold plated carbonized board showed intermediate values, 0.587 g/100 revolution of abrasion resistance and 24.35 N/$mm^2$ of surface hardness. Carbonized board showed the lowest values, 0.863 g of abrasion resistance and 21.50 N/$mm^2$, of surface hardness. These results were thought to reflect propertional relationship between abrasion resistance and surface hardness. Abrasion resistance and surface hardness of carbonized board appeared able to be improved by surface treatment such as plating.

빙-콘크리트 마찰 특성 평가를 위한 실험적 기초 연구 (Basic Experimental Study for Ice-Concrete Friction Behavior)

  • Ice induced abrasion is known as a critical problem in concrete gravity based offshore structures, which are mainly used in the arctic regions. Although many researches on ice abrasion have been conducted for the last several decades, there still are some difficulties in designing concrete gravity based offshore structures against abrasion problem because there is no standardized method yet due to the uncertain physics involved in. This paper presents an experimental study for the evaluation of concrete abrasion characteristics due to ice friction on concrete surface. For the test, a testing machine capable of abrasion and friction was designed and produced, and standardized procedure was proposed to produce ice specimen used for abrasion test. For the experiment, compressive strength of the ice specimen were explored through a static compression test. Then the friction test between ice specimen and concrete surface was performed and friction coefficients were derived using measured vertical and horizontal forces. Dependency of friction coefficients on some test parameters were studied and discussed as well.
