The effect of Nb addition on the precipitation and precipitate coarsening behavior was investigated in Ti and Ti + Nb steel weld HAZ. A dilatometer equipped with a He-quenching system was used to simulate the weld thermal cycle. Compared to $TiC_yN_{1-y}$ precipitate in a Ti containing steel, $Ti_xNb_{1-x}C_yN_{1-y}$ complex particle with addition of Nb is precipitated in a Ti + Nb containing steel. Meanwhile, precipitate coarsening occurred more easily in Ti + Nb steel, which may be because the high temperature stability of $Ti_xNb_{1-x}C_yN_{1-y}$ complex particle is deteriorated by the Nb addition.

Multilayered coatings on tungsten carbide cutting tools are widely used for enhancing cutting performance. In this paper, we review the CVD TiC/TiCN multilayer as a function of the multilayer period. The TiC/TiCN multilayers in initial stage show preferred (220) orientation but shifts to (200) orientation with decreasing multilayer period. The nanohardness of TiC/TiCN multilayers were found to increase with decreasing multilayer period and shows a maximum of 23.8 GPa at a period = 33.5 nm.
In order to clarify the effect of C/Ti atom ratios(${\chi}$) on the deformation behavior of $TiC_{\chi}$ at high temperature, single crystals having a wide range of ${\chi}$, from 0.56 to 0.96, were deformed by compression test in a temperature range of 1183~2273 K and in a strain rate range of $1.9{\times}10^{-4}{\sim}5.9{\times}10^{-3}s^{-1}$. Before testing, $TiC_{\chi}$ single crystals were grown by the FZ method in a He atmosphere of 0.3MPa. The concentrations of combined carbon were determined by chemical analysis and the lattice parameters by the X-ray powder diffraction technique. It was found that the high temperature deformation behavior observed is the ${\chi}$-less dependent type, including the work softening phenomenon, the critical resolved shear stress, the transition temperature where the deformation mechanism changes, the stress exponent of strain rate and activation energy for deformation. The shape of stress-strain curves of $TiC_{0.96}$, $TiC_{0.85}$ and $TiC_{0.56}$ is seen to be less dependent on ${\chi}$, the work hardening rate after the softening is slightly higher in $TiC_{0.96}$ than in $TiC_{0.85}$ and $TiC_{0.56}$. As ${\chi}$ decreases the work softening becomes less evident and the transition temperature where the work softening disappears, shifts to a lower temperature. The ${\tau}_c$ decreases monotonously with decreasing ${\chi}$ in a range of ${\chi}$ from 0.86 to 0.96. The transition temperature where the deformation mechanism changes shifts to a lower temperature as ${\chi}$ decreases. The activation energy for deformation in the low temperature region also decreased monotonously as ${\chi}$ decreased. The deformation in this temperature region is thought to be governed by the Peierls mechanism.
To synthesize the Ti3AlC2 MAX phase, a crucial precursor for generating the two-dimensional material MXene, the use of Ti scrap as an initial material is an economically feasible approach. This study aims to optimize the synthesis conditions for the phase fraction of the Ti3AlC2 MAX phase utilizing Ti scrap as the Ti source. The deoxidation of Ti powders, prepared through the hydrogenation-dehydrogenation process from Ti scrap, was effectively accomplished using the deoxidation in solid-state (DOSS) process. The optimal synthesis conditions were established by blending DOSS-Ti, Al, and graphite powders with particle sizes ranging from 25 ~ 32 ㎛ in a molar ratio of 3:1.1:2. The resulting phase fractions were as follows: Ti3AlC2 at 97.25 wt.%, TiC at 0.93 wt.%, and Al3Ti at 1.82 wt.%. Furthermore, the oxygen content of the Ti3AlC2 MAX powder, spanning from 25 ~ 45 ㎛, was measured at 4,210 ppm.
Commercial ductile iron was coated with titanium and aluminum powders by low pressure plasma spraying and then irradiated with a $CO_2$ laser to produce anti-corrosive TiC composite layer. TiC carbides were precipitated homogeneously in a laser alloyed layer by in-situ reaction between carbon existed in the base metal and titanium with thermal sprayed coating. The formation of gas pores and brittle limited mixing zone with ledeburite microstructure in TiC composite layer were surpressed by the complementary alloying of aluminum. The hardness of TiC composite layer obtained by addition of titanium and aluminum was between 600 and 660 Hv, which was three times as high as the hardness of ferritic ductile iron. From the results of isothermal oxidation at 1123k for 24 hours in air, high temperature oxidation resistance of the TiC composite layer with aluminum was improved and doubled when compared with the TiC composite layer without aluminum.
Titanium cabide, TiC-x mole% Al composites, and functionally-graded materials (FGMs) of TiC-x mole% Al were synthesized by an electrothermal combustion (ETC) method. TiC-70 mole% Al composite was not ignited by indirect tungsten coil heating, but can be synthesized by an electrothermal combustion. The velocity of the combustion wave decreased with increasing addition of Al and increased with an increase in the applied electric field. Functionally-graded TiC-Al materials were made from reactant layers with compositions of Ti+C+x moles Al with x ranging from zero to 70 by an electrothermal combustion. In the FGM products a nearly linear change in composition in the graded region was observed in samples with 0$\leq$ x $\leq$ 70 with x being the mole% Al.
Cr3C2 -dispersed TiC composites were prepared via HPCS(high pressure-self combustion sintering) pro-cess using mixtures of Ti, Cr and a carbon source for the purpose of increasing the facture toughness and sinterability of TiC. In this study the microstructure and properties of the composites were investigated in terms of relation to the carbon source the particle size of Ti and the amount of Cr. It was found that car-bon black was the most effective carbon source among the various carbon sources tested and the reaction was more effective as the particle size of Ti decreased. Among the sintered composites of Ti-C-Cr system the one with 30wt% Cr showed the best physical properties with 0.5% in apparent porosity 98.8% in re-lative density 18.2 GPa in hardness and 4.46 MPa.m1/2 in fracture toughness. In addition it was observed that the lattice constant of TiC decreased gradually with increasing the amount of Cr.

There is a problem that semiconductor probe pin has a short lifespan. In order to solve this problem, Ti having excellent conductivity was doped to tetrahedral amorphous carbon (ta-C) having excellent hardness and abrasion resistance. This experiment was planned through the Taguchi robust design to determine the effect of the control factor of the ta-C:Ti coating film. The effect and contribution of control factors such as Unbalanced Magnetron Sputter(UBM) discharge current, arc discharge current, temperature, and bias voltage on ta-C:Ti characteristics were analyzed from the perspective of electrical and mechanical characteristics. The UBM discharge current was set to 4, 6, and 8 A. The main control factor of thickness and resistance is the UBM discharge current, and the thickness increased and the resistance decreased as the current increased. The decrease in resistance is due to the increase in the Ti content of the ta-C:Ti coating film. The arc discharge current was set to 60, 80, and 100 A. The main control factor of hardness and wear is the arc discharge current, and as the current rises, the hardness increases and the wear area decreases. This is due to the increased ta-C content of the ta-C:Ti coating film. Since resistance and wear are important for Probe Pin, the optimal level is set from the perspective of resistance and wear and a confirmation experiment is conducted.
Large drill bits may face high hardness ore and high working pressure when working. To optimize the use effect of large drill bits and prolong the use time, it is necessary to add a layer of pressure-resistant, wear-resistant, and low-friction coating on the surface of the drill bit. In this study, CoCrNiAlTi high-entropy alloy coatings and CoCrNiAlTi (70 wt%)-TiC (30 wt%) composite coatings are successfully prepared on Q235 steel by plasma spraying. The CoCrNiAlTi (70 wt%)-TiC (30 wt%) coating consists of FCC solid solution and a small amount of TiC phase. The effect of TiC on the composition phase, microhardness, and elastic modulus of HEA coating is studied by X-ray diffractometer (XRD) and microhardness tester. The effect of TiC on the friction and wear properties of HEA coatings is investigated using a wear tester. By improving the process parameters, the metallurgical bonding between the coating and the substrate is well combined, and a coating without pores and cracks is obtained. The experimental results confirm that the microhardness, elastic modulus, and wear resistance of CoCrNiAlTi-TiC composite coating are better, and the friction coefficient is lower.
MoSi$_2$-TiC composite powders were fabricated by in-situ reaction through mechanical alloying. Also the monolithic MoSi$_2$ as well as TiC were synthesiced by mechanical alloying for comparison. An abrupt increase of vial surface temperature was detected due to a sudden reaction between elemental powders during milling. The reaction time for synthesis of composite powders decreased with increasing the content of (Ti+C) powder. It was found that a significant decrease of Ti grain size was observed with increasing the milling time. And the synthesis reaction of MoSi$_2$-TiC composite powders were largely dependent on the reaction between Ti and C powders.
