  • Let X be a Banach space, $A:D(A){\subset}X{\rightarrow}X$ the generator of a compact $C_0-semigroup\;S(t):X{\rightarrow}X,\;t{\geq}0$, D a locally closed subset in X, and $f:(a,b){\times}C([-q,0];X){\rightarrow}X$ a function of Caratheodory type. The main result of this paper is that a necessary and sufficient condition in order that D be a viable domain of the semi linear differential equation of retarded type $$u#(t)=Au(t)+f(t,u_t),\;t{\in}[t_0,\;t_0+T],{u_t}_0={\phi}{\in}C([-q,0];X)$$ is the tangency condition $$\limits_{h{\downarrow}0}^{lim\;inf\;h^{-1}d(S(h)v(0)+hf(t,v);D)=0}$$ for almost every $t{\in}(a,b)$ and every $v{\in}C([-q,0];X)\;with\;v(0){\in}D$.

  • The aim of this study was to provide the basic information necessary to identify Korean fir (Abies holophylla), momi fir (A. firma), and Nikko fir (A. homolepis), and other fir trees planted in South Korea that are protected by law. Analysis of the morphological characteristics of the needles from each sample was investigated. The shape of the needle-leaf tip from A. holophylla was acute, whereas that from A. firma and A. homolepis was emarginate and that from the protected fir trees was obtuse. The number of stomata on the needles was not significantly different between A. holophylla and A. firma, and the number of stomata on the needles from A. homolepis and the protected fir trees were highly similar. In addition, the genetic differences among the Abies species were analyzed using the sequences of five chloroplast DNA regions-matK, atpF-atpH, rpoC2-rps2, rpoC1, and psbA-trnH.The atpF-atpH and psbA-trnH regions were useful for discriminating A. firma from the other species, but there were no differences among A. holophylla, A. homolepis, and the protected fir trees. The same chloroplast sequences were found in both A. holophylla and A. homolepis, which suggests that additional genetic studies might be necessary to identify the Abies species planted in both South Korea and Japan.

증착된 a-C:H 박막은 R.F.power가 증가할수록 대체로 스핀밀도가 증가하였으며, Raman 스펙트럼에서의 I(D)/I(G) 비율은 대체로 감소하였다.

  • A cellulase fraction (F IV-1) purified to about 8-folds was obtained from crude cellulase prepared from the wheat bran culture of S.atra. The partial purification of the enzyme was made by DEAE Sephadex and Sephdex cloumn chromatography in conjuction with ammonium sulfate precipitation. After stading at various pH's for 22 hours at $20^{\circ}C$, F IV-1 was most stable at pH 5.0 but when the enzyme fraction was stood for 74 hours, the point of pH stability was raised to around pH 6.0-7.0. After heating at various temperatures for 1 hour, F IV-1 was most stable at $20^{\circ}C$. The optimal enzyme activities of F IV-1 were seen at pH 6.0 and $50^{\circ}C$. The optimal concentrations of $Zn^{++}\;and\;Ca^{++}$ for the activities of crude cellulase were 6 and 4 mM respectively, but $Ca^{++}$ inhibited the enzyme activity at concentrations below 2 mM and above 6mM. Both $Cu^{++}\;and\;Mn^{++}$ ions inhibited cellulase activities and a ocmplete inactivation of crude cellulase was achieved at concentratioins of 5 and 2 mM of ions respectively. When Na-CMC was used as substrate, the Km values of crude cellulase and F IV-1 were calculated to be $5{\times}10^{-4}\;and\;2{\times}10^{-5}mM$, and V values 32 and 1.35 mmoles/hour, respectively. The Ki values of $Mn^{++}$ for crude cellulase and F IV-1 were found to be $8{\times}10^{-2}\;and\;3{\times}10^{-2}\;mM\;while\;those\;of\;Cu^{++}\;were\;at\;2{\times}10^{-1}\;and\;1{\times}10^{-1}\;mM\;respectively.\;Both\;Mn^{++}\;and\;Cu^{++}$ showed competitive inhibition with substrate.

  • Polymer electrolyte films consisting of poly (vinylidenefluoride-hexafluoro-propylene) (PVdF-HFP) $H_3PO_4$and a mixture of ethylene carbonate(EC), $\gamma$-butyrolactone(BL) and dimethylcarbonate (DMC) were examined in order to obtain the best compromise between high protonic conductivity, homogeniety and dimensional stability. Measurements of differential scanning calorimetry and ionic conductivity have been carried out for various compositions. The highest proton conductivity of 7.3 $\times$$10^{-3}Sm^{-1}$ at $30^{\circ}C$ were obtained for a film of 30(PVdF-HFP) + 50EC/DMC + 20H$_3$PO$_4$. From the thermal study, it has been found that the PVdF-HFP gels are stable up to $80^{\circ}C$, and the $H_3PO_4$ enhances the miscibility of the polymer and the solvent by interacting sensitively with polymer segments.

  • This research was conducted to investigate the effects of feeding high and low forage diets with different forage sources on rumen fermentation characteristics and blood parameters of Holstein cows during the dry period. Eight Holstein cows were completely randomized assigned to two groups and repeated measurement was utilized in the analysis. Cows in two treatments were fed with diets with high (F:C = 70:30, 70F; forage source: mixed-sowing whole crop barley and Italian ryegrass silage, BIRG) and low (F:C = 55:45, 55F; forage source: tall fescue hay, TF) forage level. Rumen fluid pH was higher in 70F group. Levels of acetic acid, propionic acid, and butyric acid showed a similar pattern: from the lowest value at 07:30 h to the highest at 10:30 h and then decreased in both groups. The ratio of acetic acid to propionic acid was significantly higher (p < 0.05) in 55F group at 09:30 and 10:30 h. Rumen fluid $NH_3-N$ concentrations were significantly higher (p < 0.05) in 70F group at 09:30 and 10:30 h. Blood urea nitrogen was significantly higher (p < 0.05) in 70F group. It was concluded that BIRG based diet with a high forage level had no adverse effects on rumen fermentation, some blood chemical parameters, and immune system in dry Holstein cows and could be used as a forage source instead of imported TF.

  • This study was carried out to obtain some useful data for increasing an effective ginseng production. There was a direct relationship (r=0.2645) between spore germination of Fusarium solani and soil pH, and (r=0.315) between Cylindrocarpon destructans and soil pH. On the other hand, there was a direct relationship (r=0.19) between relative hyphal growth of Rhizoctonia solani and soil pH. There was a direct relationship (r=0.21) between number of total bacteria and F. solani, (r=0.37) between actinomycetes and F. solani and (r=0.20) between celluloytic bacteria and F. solani. However, there was an inverse relationship (r=-0.20) between number of total fungi and F. solani. There was a direct relationship (r=0.24) between number of actinomycetes and R. solani. Each ginseng pathogen-suppressive soil screened was 40 in F. solani, 20 in C. destructans and 9 soil samples in R. solani among 146 soil samples, respectively. The mean contents of K, Ca and Mg were fairly lower in each ginseng pathogen-suppressive soil than conducive soil, whereas Na were somewhat lower. The mean contents of organic matter were over 2 times higher in each ginseng pathogen-suppressive soil than conducive soil. The mean contents of phosphate were fairly lower in F. solani and R. solani-suppressive soil than conducive soil and, on the other hand, were somewhat higher in C. destructans-suppressive soil than conducive soil. The mean soil pH was somewhat lower in each ginseng pathogen-suppressive soil than conducive soil. The mean contents of sand were about 2 times higher in each ginseng pathogensuppressive soil than conducive soil, whereas silt and clay were somewhat lower. The microbial numbers of total bacteria, total fungi and celluloytic fungi were higher in F. solani-suppressive soil than conducive soil, whereas actinomycetes and celluloytic bacteria were lower. Each microbial number of total bacteria or total fungi indicated a significant difference (p=0.05) between F. solanisuppressive and conducive soil, and the microbial number of actinomycetes was a highly significant difference (p=0.01) between F. solani-suppressive and conducive soil. The microbial numbers of total bacteria, total fungi, actinomycetes and celluloytic fungi were higher in C. destructans-suppressive soil than conducive soil, whereas celluloytic bacteria were about 2 times lower. On the other hand, the microbial numbers of total fungi were higher in R. solani-suppressive soil than conducive soil, whereas total bacteria, actinomycetes, celluloytic bacteria and celluloytic fungi were lower. Fourteen of 16 F. solani-suppressive soils tested were suppressive to ginseng root rot, whereas fifteen of 16 C. destructans-suppressive soils were suppressive. Ginseng root rots of ginseng disease-suppressive soils were in the range of 1.0-17.4% in F. solani-suppressive soil and 0.2-20.4% in C. destructans-suppressive soil, respectively.
