  • Through the short-period variability survey program, we obtained time-series BV CCD images for $1.5^{\circ}{\times}1.0^{\circ}$ region around the young open cluster NGC 457. As a result, we have detected 61 variable stars including 31 new ones after checking light curves of all stars by eyes. The 61 variable stars were included 14 ${\delta}$ Scuti variable stars, a ${\beta}$ Cephei variable star, 10 variable Be and slowly pulsating B stars, 13 eclipsing binary stars, 21 semi-long periodic or slow irregular variables and an RR Lyrae variable star, respectively. Many variable B-type stars were known through a well-defined zero-age main sequence to the ${\beta}$ Cepheid region of NGC 457. Most of the variable B-type stars found this paper were known variable stars. But, 11 out of 14 ${\delta}$ Scuti variable stars were newly discovered. The new variable stars except for ${\delta}$ Scuti stars were 4 variable B-type stars, 5 eclipsing binaries and 11 semi-long periodic or slow irregular variables. We have performed frequency analysis for all ${\delta}$ Scuti stars, a ${\beta}$ Cepheid star and an RR Lyrae star.

  • It is very important to select a split variable in constructing the classification tree. The efficiency of a classification tree algorithm can be evaluated by the variable selection bias and the variable selection power. The C4.5 has largely biased variable selection due to the influence of many distinct values in variable selection and the QUEST has low variable selection power when a continuous predictor variable doesn't deviate from normal distribution. In this thesis, we propose the SRT algorithm which overcomes the drawback of the C4.5 and the QUEST. Simulations were performed to compare the SRT with the C4.5 and the QUEST. As a result, the SRT is characterized with low biased variable selection and robust variable selection power.

  • This research aims to integrate study results through a meta-analysis of previous studies on the variables related with social support for female marriage immigrants. Based on the results, this study established the foundation of an integrated social support system for female marriage immigrants which considers both the functional perspective and structural perspective of social support, and suggested plans for an efficient support system. All social support was positively associated with female marriage immigrants marriage life, child-rearing behavior and attitude, reduction of stress and depression and psychological stability. In relation to the effect size of each variable related with all social support, the marriage variable had the biggest relationship with it, followed by the parenting variable, the psychological variable and the stress variable in that order. With reference to the relationship with related variables according to the sub-domain of social support, from the structural perspective, spousale support showed a high relationship with the marriage variable and the stress variable. It was also especially, very highly related with the marriage variable. In addition, a married woman's family support and expert support had an intermediate relationship with the marriage variable, and the husband's family support and friend support had a low relationship with it. From the functional perspective, material support had a very high relationship with the marriage variable, whereas it had a low relationship with the stress variable and the psychological variable. Emotional support was also highly related with marriage variable, but showed an intermediate or low relationship with the psychological variable and the stress variable. On the other hand, informational support displayed an intermediate relationship with the stress variable and the psychological variable, and a high relationship with the marriage variable. Lastly, evaluative support had a high relationship with the marriage variable and the psychological variable. Based on these results, this study proposed plans for an integrated social support system as follows. First, education ought to be provided for the spouses, and support for marital adjustment should be offered. Second, there plans should be made for continuous bonding with the family of origin, and support should be given to address changes in awareness of the relationship with the husband's parents. Third, it is required to revitalize the local community and self-help groups, and provide the female marriage immigrants with opportunities to participate in social activities.

  • Variable air intake and variable exhaust nozzle of hypersonic engines are designed and tested in this study. Dimensions for variable geometry air intake, ram combustor and variable geometry exhaust nozzle are defined based on the requirements of a pre-cooled turbojet engine. Hypersonic Ramjet Engine is designed as a scaled test bed for each component. Actuation forces of moving parts for variable intake and variable nozzle are reduced by balancing the other force in the opposite direction. A demonstrator engine which includes variable intake and variable nozzle is designed and the components are fabricated. Composite material with silicone carbide is applied for high temperature parts under oxidation environment such as leading edge of the variable intake and combustor liner. Internal cooling structure is adopted for both moving and static parts of the variable nozzle. Pressure recovery and mass capture ratio of the variable intake at Mach 5 is obtained by a hypersonic wind tunnel test. Flow characteristics of the variable nozzle are obtained by a low temperature flow test. Wall temperature and heat flux of the nozzle at Mach 3 is obtained by a firing test. As results, the intake and the nozzle are proved to be used at designed pressure and temperature environment.

  • This study aims to analyze the effect of (a) sharia governance on transparency, muzakki's trust, and muzakki's loyalty in paying zakat to zakat management organizations, (b) trust and accountability on muzakki loyalty in paying zakat to zakat management organizations, (c) transparency, loyalty and accountability on the amount of zakat payments to zakat management organizations This is explanatory research with data analysis techniques using the smartPLS method. The sample is 117 people who had paid zakat to BAZNAS, Indonesia. The results showed that the sharia governance variable had a significant effect on the accountability, transparency, and muzakki trust variables. The accountability variable has a significant effect on the muzakki loyalty variable and not on the zakat payment variable. The transparency variable has a significant effect on the muzakki loyalty variable and not on the zakat payment variable. The muzakki trust variable has a significant effect on the muzakki loyalty variable, and the loyalty variable has a significant effect on the zakat payment variable. This new model can explain the variables that affect the increase in trust and loyalty in increasing the amount of zakat payments. Muzakki's trust and loyalty improvement model against zakat payment in BAZNAS Indonesia, explains how BAZNAS organizers can increase zakat revenue, loyalty, trust, and good sharia governance.

  • Purpose: This paper proposes a VSS(Variable Sample Size) ${\bar{X}}$ control chart using surrogate variable and shows its effectiveness compared with FSS(Fixed Sample Size) ${\bar{X}}$ control chart using either performance variable or surrogate variable. Methods: The expected cost function of VSS ${\bar{X}}$ control chart is derived. The optimal designs are then found for numerical examples using a GA(genetic algorithm) and compared to those of the FSS ${\bar{X}}$ control charts. Results: Computational results show that VSS ${\bar{X}}$ control chart using surrogate variables is superior to FSS ${\bar{X}}$ control chart using either performance variable or surrogate variable from the economic view points. Conclusion: The proposed VSS ${\bar{X}}$ control chart will be useful in industry fields where a performance variable is not avaliable or too costly.

  • In many cases, an $\bar{X}$ control chart which is based on the performance variable is used in industrial fields. However, if the performance variable is too costly or impossible to measure and a less expensive surrogate variable is available, the process may be more efficiently controlled using surrogate variables. In this paper, we propose a model for the economic design of a VSI (Variable Sampling Interval) $\bar{X}$ control chart using a surrogate variable that is linearly correlated with the performance variable. The total average profit model is constructed, which involves the profit per cycle time, the cost of sampling and testing, the cost of detecting and eliminating an assignable cause, and the cost associated with production during out-of-control state. The VSI $\bar{X}$ control charts using surrogate variables are expected to be superior to the Shewhart FSI (Fixed Sampling Interval) $\bar{X}$ control charts using surrogate variables with respect to the expected profit per unit cycle time from economic viewpoint.

  • When the measurement method for a performance variable is destructive or expensive, it is profitable to replace the performance variable with a highly correlated surrogate variable. In this paper we propose screening procedures using a surrogate variable with specified producer's and consumer's risks. Blending the basic concepts of acceptance sampling plans and screening procedures, the proposed model can be used effectively by quality professionals. Two models are considered: the normal model with dichotomous performance and continuous surrogate variables, and the bivariate normal model with continuous performance and surrogate variables. It is assumed the surrogate variable given the performance variable is normally distributed in the normal model, and performance and surrogate variables are jointly normally distributed in the bivariate normal model. For the two models, Producer's and consumer's risks are derived, and methods of finding the optimal screening procedures are presented. Numerical examples are also given.
