Characteristics of Superconductive Pb shield for a Whole Head MEG System (헬멧형 뇌자도 장치로의 활용을 위한 Pb 초전도 차폐의 특성)

  • We have investigated the characteristics of a superconductive Pb shield for hemispherical shape and plate to improving signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) of biomagnetism. We measured the shielding factor for the position of helmet shape Pb and for changing the distance from Pb surface. To make a uniform magnetic field, a $1.5m{\times}1.5m$ set of the helmholtz coils activated at several frequencies. The shielding factor of hemispherical shape Pb was from 20 to 57 dB and of Pb plate was about $6{\sim}26dB$ as a function of distance from the lead surface. The shielding factor was rapidly reduced as increasing the distance from Pb surface. The white noise of superconductive quantum interference device(SQUID) with a superconductive shield was about $12fT/Hz^{1/2}$ at 1 Hz, $7fT/Hz^{1/2}$ at 100 Hz. The white noise was more increased about two times than conventional SQUID system without Pb shielding. An auditory signal was measured by first order gradiometer and magnetometer with Pb superconductive shield and compared the SNR. The SQUID system with Pb shield had better performance at low frequency noise level.

Influence of moon light to the fishing of squid jigging fishery in the Southwest Atlantic Ocean (남서대서양 오징어채낚기어업에서 달빛이 어획에 미치는 영향)

  • The aim of this study is to investigate influence of moon light to the fishing of squid jigging fishery in the southwest Atlantic Ocean based on analyses of date taken from 127 vessels in Falkland fishing ground by squid jigging fishery from 2010 to 2015. Catch and CPUE were analyzed between the new moon and full moon phases. Catches of the new moon phase were higher than those of the full moon phase by 7.6% and CPUE expressed in mt/day-vessels and mt/line-day were also higher by 18.2%, 18.2% respectively. However, as a result of statistical analysis at a significance level of p > 0.05, no significant statistical differences in catch, mt/day-vessels and mt/line-day were found between the new moon and the full moon as a result of statistical analysis at a significance level of p > 0.05.

A Study on Relationship among Attributes of Ramen Package Design, Ramen Image and Chinese Customer's Choice of Ramen (한국 라면 포장지 디자인 속성과 라면포장지 이미지, 그리고 중국 소비자의 한국 라면 선택간의 관계에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to verify relationships among attributes of ramen package design, ramen image, and chinese customer's choice of ramen. We chose, as a sample, ramen 'sour ramen', 'squid jjambbong', 'tasty ramen', 'noodle beef soup', and 'seasame ramen'. The findings and implications can be summarized as follows. first, while chinese customers chose 'sour ramen' as the most favorable ramen, followed by 'tasty ramen', 'squid jjangbbong', 'noodle beef soup', and 'seasame ramen', for ramen image they most highly evaluated 'sour ramen' followed by 'squid jjangbbong', 'tasty ramen', 'seasame ramen', and 'noodle beef soup'. Second, there is a significant difference in popularity and reliability of quality, but no significant difference in attractiveness and healthiness among most attributes of ramen package design. Third, compared to 'seasame ramen', the popularity and reliability of quality for 'sour ramen', reliability of quality for 'squid jjangbbong', reliabilty of quality, and healthiness for 'tasty ramen' had positive effect on choice, while attractiveness for 'noodle beef soup' had a negative effect on their choice.

High $T_c$ SQUID system for biological immunoassays

  • A high $T_c$ SQUID system is developed for the application to biological immunoassay. In this application, magnetic nanoparticles are used as magnetic markers to perform immunoassay, i.e., to detect binding reaction between an antigen and its antibody. The antibody is labeled with ${\gamma}-Fe_2O_3\;(or\;Fe_3O_4)$ nanoparticles, and the binding reaction can be magnetically detected by measuring the magnetic field from the nanoparticles. Design and set up of the system is described. The system consists of (1) SQUID magnetometer or gradiometer made of 30-deg. bicrystal junctions, (2) field and compensation coils to apply the magnetic field of about 1 mT, (3) special Dewar to realize a 2 mm-distance between the SQUID and the sample, (4) two layers of cylindrical shielding to reduce the extemal magnetic noise to about 1/100, and (5) an electric slider to move the sample with a speed of 10 mm/sec. The sensitivity of the system is studied in terms of detectable magnetic flux. For the measurement bandwidth from 0.2 Hz to 10 Hz, minimum-detectable amplitude of the magnetic flux is $0.8\;m\;{\Phi}_o$ and $0.25\;m{\Phi}_o$ for the magnetometer and the gradiometer, respectively, when the magnetic field of 1 mT is applied. The difference between them is due to the residual environmental noise, and the applied magnetic field does not increase the system noise. The corresponding weight of the magnetic markers is 1 ng and 310 pg, respectively. An experiment is also conducted to measure antigen-antibody reaction with the present system. It is shown that the sensitivity of the present system is 10 times better than that of the conventional method using an optical marker. A one order of magnitude improvement of sensitivity will be realized by the sophistication of the present system.

Apparent digestibility of dry matter, organic matter, protein and energy of native Peruvian feedstuffs in juvenile rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss)

  • Trout production is a growing activity in recent years but requires new alternative sources of feed to be sustainable over time. The objective of this research was to determine the apparent digestibility coefficient (ADC) of dry matter (DM), organic matter (OM), crude protein (CP) and digestible energy (DE) of $ka{\tilde{n}}iwa$ (Chenopodium pallidicaule Aellen), kiwicha (Amaranthus caudatus L), quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa Willd), beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.), sacha inchi, (Plukenetia volubilis L) and jumbo squid (Dosidicus gigas) meal in juvenile rainbow trout. The experimental diets were composed of a 70% basal diet and 30% of any raw materials. The ADC was determined by the indirect method using insoluble ash as a non-digestible marker. Jumbo squid, sacha inchi and quinoa showed the highest values of ADC (%) of DM (84.5, 73.5 and 69.7), OM (89.1, 78.4 and 72.9), CP (93.2, 98.0 and 90.3), and DE (4.57, 4.15 and 2.95 Mcal/kg DM), respectively. The ADC values for $ka{\tilde{n}}iwa$, kiwicha and bean were significantly lower. In conclusion, quinoa meal and jumbo squid meal have an acceptable digestibility but sacha inchi meal is a potential alternative for rainbow trout feeding in the future.

A Bayesian State-space Production Assessment Model for Common Squid Todarodes pacificus Stock Caught by Multiple Fisheries in Korean Waters (한국 해역의 살오징어(Todarodes pacificus) 개체군 자원평가를 위한 베이지안 상태공간 잉여생산량 모델의 적용)

  • Given data about the annual fishery yield of the common squid Todarodes pacificus, and the catch-per-unit-effort (CPUE) data from multiple fisheries from 2000-2018, we applied a Bayesian state - space assessment model for the squid population. One of our objectives was to do a stock assessment, simultaneously incorporating CPUE data from the following three fisheries, (i) large trawl, (ii) jigger, and (iii) large purse seine, which comprised on average a year about 65% of all fisheries, allowing possible correlations to be reflected. Other objectives were to consider both observation and process errors and to apply objective priors of parameters. The estimated annual exploitable biomass was in the range of 3.50×105 to 1.22×106 MT, the estimated intrinsic growth rate was 1.02, and the estimated carrying capacity was 1,151,259 MT. Comparison with available results from stock assessment of independently analyzed single fisheries revealed a large difference from the estimated values, suggesting that stock assessment based on multiple fisheries should be performed.

Development and Validation of Multiplex Polymerase Chain Reaction to Determine Squid Species Based on 16s rRNA Gene (오징어류 종 판별을 위한 다중 유전자 검사법 개발 및 검증)

  • In this study, single PCR and multiplex PCR tests were examined for identification of four types of squid species (giant squid, cuttlefish, octopus, beka squid) purchased from fish market as well as aquatic processed products in Busan. To design the specific primers against each species, the nucleotide sequences of the mitochondrial 16s rRNA gene of Architeuthis dux, Todarodes pacificus, Enteroctopus dofleini, Enteroctopus megalocyathus, Uroteuthis chinensis, Uroteuthis duvauceli, Uroteuthis edulis groups were analyzed for the identification of each species registered in the GeneBank (www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov) and have been used for comparative analysis. In order to obtain the size variation of amplified fragments on multiplex PCR, we designed KOJ-F, OJ-F, OCT-F, HAN-F, ALLR primers for each species. The optimal PCR conditions and primers were selected for four types of squid species to determine target base sequences in its PCR products. In the case of single PCR, giant squid was only amplified by KOJ-F/ALLR primer; cuttlefish was only amplified by OJ-F/ALLR primer; octopus was only amplified by OCT-F/ALLR primer; and beka squid was only amplified by HAN-F/ALLR primer. For multiplex PCR, the mixture of four kinds of genomic DNA (giant squid, cuttlefish, octopus, beka squid) been prepared as a template and used together with the mixture of KOJ-F/OJ-F/OCT-F/HAN-F/ALLR primers in the reaction. By the multiplex PCR, it is confirmed that four samples are correspond to multiple simultaneous amplicon. Finally, we validated the established methods of multiplex PCR in the aquatic processed products. Although the mitochondrial 16s rRNA primers used in this study was useful as a marker for detection of each species among them, the study indicated that the established multiplex PCR method can be more useful tool for monitoring the processed products.

  • For the purpose of leading horse mackerel Trachurus japonicus schools, mackerel Scomber japonicus schools and arrow squid Todarodes pacificus schools, which migrate to the Cheju coast and are caught by the set-net, to the set-net by attracting lamps, we made five attracting lamps and took a practical experiment in the Gwiduk and Dongbuk set-net fishing ground. In the set-net with two bag-nets, we compared the amount of catch of both bag-nets by the means of switching on and off the each attracting lamps in order, switching off the attracting lamps in order which had been switched on and moving an attracting lamp.In the bag-net with an attracting lamp, horse mackerel, mackerel and arrow squid were caught the most, on the other hand, yellow tail Seriola quinqueradiata, striped mullet Mugil cephalus were caught in large quantities in the bag-net without attracting lamp. File fish Stephanolepis cirrhifer, Dusky spinefoot Siganus fuscescens were caught evenly in both bag-nets regardless of an attracting lamp.This result indicates that the amount of horse mackerel, mackerel, arrow squid can be increased by the use of attracting lamps in the set-net fishing method.

Fabrication and characterization of PbIn-Au-PbIn superconducting junctions

  • We report on the fabrication and measurement results of the electrical transport properties of superconductor-normal metal-superconductor (SNS) weak links, made of PbIn superconductor and Au metal. The maximum supercurrent reaches up to ${\sim}6{\mu}A$ at T = 2.3 K and the supercurrent persists even at T = 4.7 K. Magnetic field dependence of the critical current is consistent with a theoretical fit using the narrow junction model. The superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) was also fabricated using two PbIn-Au-PbIn junctions connected in parallel. Under perpendicular magnetic field, we clearly observed periodic oscillations of dV/dI with a period of magnetic flux quantum threading into the supercurrent loop of the SQUID. Our fabrication methods would provide an easy and simple way to explore the superconducting proximity effects without ultra-low-temperature cryostats.

Tests for Asymmetry and Structure Changes in Retail Price Volatility of Fresh Common Squid in the Republic of Korea (신선 물오징어 소매가격 변동성의 구조변화와 비대칭성 검증)

  • This study analyzed structural changes and asymmetry of price volatility during the period before and after a point of structural change in price volatility, using the Korean fresh common squid daily retail price data from January 1, 2004 to September 30, 2015. This study utilized the following analytical methods: the unit-root test was applied to ensure the stability of the data, the Quandt-Andrews breakpoint test was applied to find the point of structural change, and the Glosten-Jagannathan-Runkle GARCH and EGARCH models were applied to investigate the asymmetry of price volatility. The empirical results of this study are as follows. First, ADF, PP, KPSS and Zivot-Andrews tests showed that the daily retail price change rate of the Korean fresh common squid differentiated by logarithm was stable. Secondly, the ARIMA (2,1,2) model was selected by information criteria such as AIC, SC, and HQ. Thirdly, the Quandt-Andrews breakpoint test found that a single structural change in price volatility occurred on June 11, 2009. Fourthly, the Glosten-Jagannathan-Runkle GARCH and EGARCH models showed that estimates of coefficients within the models were statistically significant before and after structural change and also that asymmetry as a leverage effect existed before and after structural change.
