  • Cognitive radio is accepted as an effective and promising approach for resolving the spectrum scarcity problem by allowing secondary users to borrow unused spectrum from primary users. A method of identifying busy and empty spectrum at the given time and space, which is called spectrum sensing, constitutes an essential element of the cognitive radio. In this paper, we propose a receiver-centric spectrum sensing scheme which attempts to detect the primary receiver rather than the primary transmitter. It is shown that the proposed receiver-centric sensing approach results in more efficient spectrum utilization than the conventional transmitter-centric sensing.

  • Advanced nuclear reactors, especially the newly developed small and micro-reactors have complex neutron spectrum, which makes the deterministic reactor core calculations sensitive to the energy group structure of few-group cross-sections. To avoid significantly increasing the cost of energy discretization in the core calculation, two energy group structures with 31 groups and 33 groups were adopted for typical thermal and fast reactor cores, respectively. Then, an adaptive scheme of group division for reactor cores with a medium neutron spectrum was proposed. The works were based on the full spectrum nuclear reactor analysis code SARAX/TULIP. An equivalent one-dimensional model of the core was proposed to capture the key neutron spectrum features of the reactor core. Such features were used to adaptively determine a few-group structure for the following reactor core calculations. Then, the neutron spectrum in different zones with more details was calculated. With this spectrum, the cross-sections were condensed into the determined energy groups. Three tests based on different neutron spectrum were calculated to verify the schemes. The results show that using the adaptive energy group division scheme, the following core calculation can meet the accuracy requirement of different reactors with different neutron spectra.

  • Most of the underwater noise emitted by small fishing boat are owing to vibration of main engine and generator etc.. This paper describe on the spectrum analysis of underwater noise by engine generating in small fishing boat in order to build up comfortable environment for fisheries man and to reduce ambient noise. The obtained results are summerized as follows:1. When the underwater noise of 10ton class fishing boat measure and the frequency spectrum in varied revolution of engine 750, 900, 1000rpm analyze, the frequency pattern is similar to each other, the faster revolution of engine increase, the higher frequency spectrum level becomes. 2. In comparison of spectrum level of underwater noise between 10ton class and 14ton class fishing boat, the former level is higher than the latter. 3. Frequency spectrum pattern of two 14ton class fishing boat is similar to each other but spectrum level is a little difference, it is suggested to different by fitting condition of engine.

  • Performances of spectrum-sliced channels are strongly affected by their relative intensity noise (RIN). We use polarization-independent optical modulators (PIOMs) for spectrum-sliced channels to suppress their RIN. The PIOM driven by a high sinusoidal voltage signal evenly redistributes optical frequency components in the spectral domain and reduces the RIN. It can be used at a broadband light source (BLS) output to produce spectrum-sliced channels having lower RIN values. Also, it can be used for each spectrum-sliced channel within each optical network unit (ONU). In our experiment, where 12.5-GHz-spaced spectrum-sliced channels are used in 1-GbE speed, the use of PIOM at the BLS output reduces the bit error rate (BER) of the spectrum-sliced channel by more than an order of magnitude. The use of PIOM within the ONU reduces the BER by approximately 3 orders of magnitude.

  • Spectrum sensing plays an essential role in a cognitive radio network, which enables opportunistic access to an underutilized licensed spectrum. In conventional cooperative spectrum sensing (CSS), all cognitive users (CUs) in the network spend the same amount of time on spectrum sensing and waste time in remaining silent when other CUs report their sensing results to the fusion center. This problem is solved by the superposition cooperative spectrum sensing (SPCSS) scheme, where the sensing time of a CU is extended to the reporting time of the other CUs. Subsequently, SPCSS assigns the CUs different sensing times and thus affects both the sensing performance and the throughput of the system. In this paper, we propose an algorithm to determine the optimal sensing time of each CU for SPCSS that maximizes the achieved system throughput. The simulation results prove that the proposed scheme can significantly improve the throughput of the cognitive radio network compared with the conventional CSS.

  • The design response spectrum generally used in Korea is decided by the site coefficients determined by deterministic methodology, while it is based on probabilistic seismic hazard analysis. The design response spectrum has to be made using probabilistic method which includes uncertainties of ground motions and ground properties for coincide with probabilistic methodology of seismic hazard analysis. In this study probabilistic site coefficients were developed, which were defined by the results of site response analysis using a set of ground motion that was compatible with present seismic hazard map. The design response spectrum defined by probabilistic seismic coefficients resulted in lower spectrum in long period area and larger spectrum in short period area. Also, the maximum spectral accelerations in site class D and site class E were lower than one in site class C while in the previous design response spectrum the maximum spectral acceleration increased from site class A to E.

  • OSA(Opportunistic Spectrum Access) allows secondary users not having a license for spectrum usage to opportunistically occupy an idle spectrum owned by a licensee named primary users. We propose two OSA schemes for un-slotted secondary users exploiting spectrum opportunities in un-slotted primary networks. • EPR spectra of the high-temperature superconductor YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-x}$ doped with ytterbium have been measured at 77-300K. The superconducting, orthorhombic phase shows a spectrum at g = 2.08 (Spectrum O). As the temperature is lowered, another line ascribable to $Yb^{3+}$ grows gradually at g = 3.31. The intensity of Spectrum O was determined using Yb as the internal reference. The semiconducting, tetragonal phase shows a spectrum at g = 2.06 (Spectrum T), different from Spectrum O. The origins of these spectra are discussed.

  • Cooperative spectrum sensing is proposed to overcome some problem such as multipath fading and shadowing and to improve spectrum sensing performance. There are different combining methods for cooperative spectrum sensing: hard decision method and soft decision method. In this paper, we analysis the performance of cooperative spectrum sensing with distance based weight that is kind of a soft decision rule for cognitive radio(CR) systems and CR systems sense the spectrum of the licensed user by using a energy detection method. Threshold is determined in accordance with the constant false alarm rate(CFAR) algorithm for energy detection. The signal of licensed user is OFDM signal and the wireless channel between a licensed user and CR systems is modeled as Gaussian channel. From the simulation results, the cooperative spectrum sensing with distance based weight combining(DWC) and equal gain combing(EGC) methods shows higher spectrum sensing performance than single spectrum sensing does. And the detection probability performance with the DWC is higher than that with the EGC.
