In this paper, we describe a new method to form polymer thin films, in which carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are homogeneously distributed so that they can strengthen the mechanical property of resulting polymer film. To do so, we first homogeneously mixed CNTs with polymer in a DMF solvent. With the assistance of ultrasonic nebulizer, the polymer/CNT solution was then aerosolized into micro-sized droplets and finally turned into solidified polymer/CNT composite particles by gas-phase drying process. As the results of SEM and TEM analysis, CNTs were found to be homogeneously immobilized in the polymer matrix particles due to rapid drying process in the gas phase. For comparison purpose, (i) the polymer/CNTs composite particles prepared by aerosol processing method and (ii) polymer/CNTs sheets prepared by simple solution-evaporation method were employed to form polymer/CNTs composite thin films using a hot press. As the result, the aerosol processing of composite particles was found to be a much more effective method to form homogeneously distributed-CNTs in the polymer matrix thin film.

Magnesium and its alloys are prone to be corroded, thus surface treatments improving corrosion resistance are always required for practical applications. As a surface treatment of magnesium alloys, plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO), creating porous stable oxide layer by a high voltage discharge in electrolyte, enhances the corrosion resistance. However, due to superhydrophilicity of the porous oxide layer, which easily allow the penetration of corrosive media toward magnesium alloys substrate, post-treatments inhibiting the transfer of corrosive media in porous oxide layer are required. In this work, we employed a hydrophobizing method to enhance the corrosion resistance of PEO treated Mg alloy. Three types of hydrophobizing techniques were used for PEO layer. Thin Teflon coating with solvent evaporation, self-assembled monolayer (SAM) coating of octadecyltrichlorosilane (OTS) based on solution method and SAM coating of perfluorodecyltrichlorosilane (FDTS) based on vacuum method significantly enhances corrosion resistance of PEO treated Mg alloy with reducing the contact of water on the surface. In particular, the vacuum based FDTS coating on PEO layer shows the most effective hydrophobicity with the highest corrosion resistance.
Curdlan acetate was prepared from hydrophilic curdlan by chemical modification and it was used for pH-sensitive drug delivery system. Curdlan acetate microspheres were prepared by the solvent evaporation method. The size of the curdlan acetate microspheres was below $200\;{\mu}m$. The drug loading efficiency of microspheres was approximately 58.44%. In the swelling test, curdlan acetate microspheres were showed pH-sensitive behavior. The swelling capacity of microspheres at pH 7.4 was much greater than at pH 1.4. Also, Release rate of indomethacin (IND) at pH 7.4 from curdlan acetate microspheres was faster than that at pH 1.4. A pH-sensitive drug release pattern was due to the disintegrating after swelling.

One of the most important environmental problems is global warming. Global warming is caused by increase in the amounts of water vapor, methane, carbon dioxide and other gases being released into the atmosphere as a result of the burning of fossil fuels. It has thus become important to reduce fossil fuel use. Environmentally friendly preparation of functional materials has, therefore, attracted much interest for environmental problems. Furthermore, nature mimetic processes are recently been of great interest as environmentally friendly one. There have been many studies on fabrication of various functional nanocrystals. Among various nanocrystal fabrication techniques, flux growth is an environmentally friendly, very convenient process and can produce functional nanocrystals at temperatures below the melting points of the solutes. Furthermore, this technique is suitable for the synthesis of crystals having an enhedral habit. In flux growth, the constituents of the materials to be crystallized are dissolved in a suitable flux (solvent) and crystal growth occurs as the solution becomes critically supersaturated. The supersaturation is attained by cooling the solution, by evaporation of the solvent or by a transport process in which the solute is made to flow from a hotter to a cooler region. Many kinds of oxide nanocrystals have been grown in our laboratory. For example, zero- (e.g., particle), one- (e.g., whisker and tube) and two-dimensional (e.g., sheet) nanocrystals were successfully grown by flux method. Our flux-growth technique has some industrial and ecological merits because the nanocrystal fabrication temperatures are far below their melting points and because the used reagents are less harmless to human being and the environment.
Generating electricity by using water in many energy harvesting system is due to their simplicity, sustainability and eco-friendliness. Evaporation-driven moist-electric generators (EMEGs) are an emergent technology and show great potential for harvesting clean energy. In this study, we report a transpiration driven electro kinetic power generator (TEPG) that utilize capillary flow of water in an asymmetrically wetted cotton fabric coated with carbon black. When water droplets encounter this textile EMEG, the water flows spontaneously under capillary action without requiring an external power supply. First carbon black sonicated and dispersed well in three different solvent system such as dimethylformamide (DMF), sodiumdedecylbenzenesulfonate (SDBS-anionic surfactant) and cetyltrimethylammoniumbromide (CTAB-cationic surfactant). A knitted cotton/PET fabric was coated with carbon black by conventional pad method. Cotton/PET fabrics were immersed and stuttered well in these three different systems and then transferred to an autoclave at 120 ℃ for 15 minutes. Cotton/PET fabric treated with carbon black dispersed in DMF solvent generated maximum current up to 5 µA on a small piece of sample (2 µL/min of water can induce constant electric output for more than 286 hours). This study is high value for designing of electric generator to harvest clean energy constantly.
Huperzine A-loaded microspheres composed of poly(D,L-lactide-co-glycolide) were prepared by an O/w emulsion solvent evaporation method. The characterization of the microspheres such as drug loading, size, shape and release profile was described. The in vitro release in the initial 7 days was nearly linear with $10\%$ released per day. Thereafter drug release rate became slow gradually and about $90\%$ drug released at day 21. The in vitro release rate determined by dialysis bag method had a good correlation with the in vivo release rate. Huperzine A aqueous solution was intramuscularly injected (i.m.) at 0.4mg/kg and microspheres were intramuscularly injected at 8.4 mg eq huperzine A/kg in rats. The maxium plasma concentration $(C_{max})$ after i.m. microspheres was only $32\%$ of that after i.m. solution. Drug in plasma could be detectd until day 14 and about $5\%$ of administered dose was residued at the injection site at day 14. The relative bioavailability of huperzine A microspheres over a period of 14 days was $94.7\%$. Inhibition of acyecholinesterase activity (AchE) in rat's cortex, hippocampus and striatum could sustain for about 14 days. In conclusion, huperzine A-loaded microspheres possessed a prolonged and complete drug release with significant inhibition of AchE for 2 weeks in rats.

Zaltoprofen, a propionic acid derivative non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, was known to have powerful inhibitory effects on acute, subacute and chronic inflammation. For initial release and sustained release, the microspheres were prepared using an emulsion-solvent evaporation method like an O/W emulsion method with varying the ratio of zaltoprofen-loaded polyoxalate (POX)/PLGA micropheres. The morphology of the microspheres was confirmed by scanning electron microscopy. The crystallinity of microspheres was analyzed by X-ray diffraction and differential scanning calorimeter. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy was used to analyze the chemical structure of microspheres. The increased ratio of POX microspheres affected the initial drug release, and the sustained release of drug was influenced by ratio of PLGA microspheres. In this study, the initial release behavior of zaltoprofen can be controlled by the ratio of POX/PLGA microspheres.
Herein, a novel preparation method of highly homogeneous carbon-silicon composite materials was presented. In contrast to conventional solvent evaporation method, a milled silicon-graphite or its oxidized material were directly reacted with petroleum-derived pitch precursor. After thermal reaction under high pressure, pitch-graphite-silicon composite was prepared. Carbon-graphite-silicon composite were prepared by an air-oxidization and following carbonization. From energy dispersive spectroscopy, it was observed that small Si particles were highly embedded within carbon, which was confirmed by disappearance of Si peaks in Raman spectra. Furthermore, X-ray diffraction and Raman spectra revealed that carbon crystallinity decreased when the strongly oxidized silicon-graphite was added, which was probably due to oxygen-induced cross-linking. From the anode application in lithium ion batteries, carbon-graphite-silicon composite anode displayed a high capacity ($565\;mAh\;g^{-1}$), a good initial efficiency (68%) and an good cyclability (88% retention at 50 cycles), which were attributed to the high dispersion of Si particles within cabon. In case of the strongly oxidized silicongraphite addtion, a decrease of reversible capacity was observed due to its low crystallinity.
We demonstrate a simple and effective method to accurately position silicon nanowires (Si NWs) at desirable locations using drop-casting of Si NW inks; this process is suitable for applications in nanoelectronics or nanophotonics. Si NWs were assembled into a lithographically patterned sacrificial photoresist (PR) template by means of capillary interactions at the solution interface. In this process, we varied the type of solvent of the SiNW-containing solution to investigate different assembly behaviors of Si NWs in different solvents. It was found that the assembly of Si NWs was strongly dependent on the surface energy of the solvents, which leads to different evaporation modes of the Si NW solution. After Si NW assembly, the PR template was cleanly removed by thermal decomposition or chemical dissolution and the Si NWs were transferred onto the underlying substrate, preserving its position without any damage. This method enables the precise control necessary to produce highly integrated NW assemblies on all length scales since assembly template is easily fabricated with top-down lithography and removed in a simple process after bottom-up drop-casting of NWs.
In this study, poly ${\varepsilon}$-caprolactone(PCL) microcapsules containing lemongrass oil was prepared by the solvent evaporation method. Effects of concentrations of PCL and poly vinyl alcohol (PVA) as well as stirring speeds when preparing microcapsules were investigated. Specific peaks of lemongrass oil in PCL microcapsules at 1600 and $2900cm^{-1}$ were observed by FT-IR. The particle size and shape of microcapsules were also measured by polarizing microscope and optical microscopy. The average particle size of microcapsules decreased with increasing the stirring rate. At the stirring speed of 1500 rpm, and 1 wt% of each PCL and PVA concentrations, the smallest particles were formed. Collection efficiencies of lemongrass oil of 77.5% and 69.5% were obtained when 1.5 wt% of PCL and 2 wt% of PVA were used, respectively. In addition, the release behavior and antioxidant activity of lemongrass oil from PCL microcapsules were examined using UV-Vis spectrophotometry. When 0.5 wt% PCL and 2.0 wt% PVA were used with the slow stirring rate, microcapsules showed a fast release rate. The characteristics of antioxidant activity exhibited similar to that of the release behavior.
