  • This paper describes a shape matching algorithm for occluded or distorted two-dimensional objects. In our approach, the shape matchin is viewed as a segment matching problem. A shape matching algorithm, based on both the stochastic labeling technique and the hypothesis generate-test paradigm, is proposed, and a simple technique which performs the stochastic labeling process in accordance with the definition of consisten labeling assignment without requiring an iterative updating process of probability valiues is also proposed. Several simulation results show that the proposed algorithm is very effective when occlusion, scaling or change of orientation has occurred in the object.

  • This paper proposes a method for seeking the scheme of substation restoration by using genetic algorithm. Genetic algorithm (GA), first introduced by John Holland, is becoming an important tool in machine learning and function optimization. GA is a searching or optimization algorithm based on Darwinian biological evolution principle. As a test system, we assume a simple substation system and for the transformer fault, the result is obtained.

  • Harvesting energy from the environment is essential for many applications to slow down the deterioration of energy of the devices in sensor networks and in general, the network itself. Energy from the environment is an inexhaustible supply which, if properly managed and harvested from the sources, can allow the system to last for a longer period - more than the expected lifetime at the time of deployment, or even last indefinitely. The goal of this study is to develop a simple algorithm for ns-2 to simulate energy harvesting in wireless sensor network simulations. The algorithm is implemented in the energy module of the simulator. Energy harvesting algorithms have not yet been developed for ns-2. This study will greatly contribute to the existing knowledge of simulating wireless sensor networks with energy harvesting capabilities in ns-2. This paper will also serve as a basis for future research papers that make use of energy harvesting.

  • This paper presents a simple, consistent and reliable technique to identify detected partial discharges (PD) using an acoustic ultrasonic method. A new reliable algorithm named 'Simple Partial Discharge Identifier' (SPDI) is proposed to perform identification process of the detected ultrasonic signals of PD. Experimental works based on recommended practices were setup and the ultrasonic signals of the PD were recorded. The PD data is then employed as the reference data. The SPDI developed has been tested against commonly used models in Neural Network (NN). Results from the SPDI algorithm shows more reliable results compared to NN models results. Comparison made on the mean square error (MSE) results shows SPDI produces the desired outcome with lower MSE in 97.17% of trials. Low error of SPDI indicates a high reliability to be applied in the identification of PD.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient algorithm for constructing cylindrical panoramic image. At first, we describe a fast image alignment algorithm, which matches image strips located on equal distance for image centers. And then, we explain how to estimate accurately the effective focal length of camera by a bisection method. Although there is a limitation in that the image should be taken by a camera with pure panning motion, the proposed simple and fast algorithm is applicable to practical application.

  • In this paper, we used image information for the enhancement of Korean numeral speech recognition. First, a noisy environment was made by Gaussian generator at each 10 dB level and the generated signal was added to original Korean numeral speech. And then, the speech was analyzed to recognize Korean numeral speech. Speech through microphone was pre-emphasized with 0.95, Hamming window, autocorrelation and LPC analysis was used. Second, the image obtained by camera, was converted to gray level, autocorrelated, and analyzed using LPC algorithm, to which was applied in speech analysis, Finally, the Korean numerial speech recognition with image information was more ehnanced than speech-only, especially in ‘3’, ‘5’and ‘9’. As the same LPC algorithm and simple image management was used, additional computation a1gorithm like a filtering was not used, a total speech recognition algorithm was made simple.

  • In this paper. we propose a simple and effective video scene change detection algorithm using a 3-D DCT. The 3-D DCT that we employ is a 2$\times$2$\times$2 DCT has simple computations composed only of adding and shifting operations. The simple average values of multiresolution represented video using the 2$\times$2$\times$2 DCT are used as a detection feature vector.

  • We present an expectation-maximization algorithm for principal component analysis via orthogonalization. The algorithm finds actual principal components, whereas previously proposed EM algorithms can only find principal subspace. New algorithm is simple and more efficient thant probabilistic PCA specially in noiseless cases. Conventional PCA needs computation of inverse of the covariance matrices, which makes the algorithm prohibitively expensive when the dimensions of data space is large. This EM algorithm is very powerful for high dimensional data when only a few principal components are needed.

  • In this paper, we suggest a new algorithm diminishing the chattering in sliding mode control by setting a dead-band along the switching line on the phase plane although nonlinear terms of an nonlinear system are regarded as disturbances and apply this algorithm to the trajectory control of SCARA robot By this algorithm, we can expect the high performance of the trajectory trajet of an industrial robot which needs a robust and simple algorithm.
