In this paper, we present a design of modem and vocoder digital signal processor (DSP) chips for CDMA mobile station. The modem chip integrates CDMA reverse link modulator, CDMA forward link demodulator and Viterbi decoder. This chip contains 89,000 gates and 29 kbit RAMs, and the chip size is $10 mm{\times}10.1 mm$ which is fabricated using a $0.8{\mu}m$ 2 metal CMOs technology. To carry out the system-level simulation, models of the base station modulator, the fading channel, the automatic gain control loop, and the microcontroller were developed and interfaced with a gate-level description of the modem application specific integrated circuit (ASIC). The Modem chip is now successfully working in the real CDMA mobile station on its first fab-out. A new DSP architecture was designed to implement the Qualcomm code exited linear prediction (QCELP) vocoder algorithm in an efficient way. The 16 bit vocoder DSP chip has an architecture which supports direct and immediate addressing modes in one instruction cycle, combined with a RISC-type instruction set. This turns out to be effective for the implementation of vocoder algorithm in terms of performance and power consumption. The implementation of QCELP algorithm in our DSP requires only 28 million instruction per second (MIPS) of computation and 290 mW of power consumption. The DSP chip contains 32,000 gates, 32K ($2k{\times}16\;bit$) RAM, and 240k ($10k{\times}24\;bit$) ROM. The die size is $8.7\;mm{\times}8.3\;mm$ and chip is fabricated using $0.8\;{\mu}m$ CMOS technology.

Recently, much power demand from domestic power consumer is weakening the allowable power reserve margin in summer, especially at midday for one day due to a steep increase of air cooling loads such as air conditioner. Therefore solar airconditioning system can'be considered as one of the best remedies to meet the increase of peak power. Generally in solar air conditioning system, the diode rectifier is used to build up DC link voltage from AC source. The diode rectifier is simple and cheap but it brings out the problems of low power factor and plentiful harmonics at the AC source. Also It can derate the utilization rate of solar energy because the reverse of power flow cannot be made. Hence, in this paper to overcome the peak power problem in summer and to endure good AC input characteristics, solar air conditioning system using the PWM converter is proposed. As results, obtained are the characteristics of the PWM converter such as low distorted current waveform, high power factor and bidirectional power control. And also the stability of proposed system is verified by examining the dynamics of step load change and power reversal testing. (author). refs., figs., tabs.
This paper presents a novel method to detect the rotor position of the BrushLess DC(BLDC) motor at standstill and a start-up method to accelerate the rotor up to a certain speed where the conventional position sensorless control methods based on the back EMF could work reasonably The proposed initial rotor position estimation method is suitable to avoid the temporary reverse rotation or the starting failure. This method can be implemented using only one current sensor at DC link of the inverter. It does not depend on the model of the motor , and it is robust to motor parameter variations. By the proposed method, it is demonstrated experimentally that a stable starting can be achieved even with severe mechanical disturbance.

This study applied asynchronous W-CDMA(3GPP) system that is suggested as an access method of IMT-2000, multimedia communication in next generation, and estimated fading channel by using pilot symbol different from traditional IS-95. And then, it applied PIC(Parallel Interference Cancellation) as multiple access interference cancellation and analyzed performance depending on the power rate between DPCCH(Control) and DPDCH(Data). As a result of simulation, it showed the best performance in C:D = 3:7 and 4:6, where set up as five users in case of hand design, and showed the best performance in C:D = 3:7, where did as ten users.

The power line modem proposed in this paper transmits the remote control signal using CSK(Code Shift Keying) and DS/SS method. The CSK technique provides the increased capacity of transmission and robustness towards noise. Besides, the DS/SS technique provides protection against narrow-band Gaussian interference and multi-path interference. The modem supports full-duplex communication using FDD(Frequency Division Duplex) and the modem structure for forward link is same with that for reverse link. To switch each sub-controlled unit smoothly, 4/$\pi$-DQPSK is adopted for noncoherent demodulation. The PN code for spreading spectrum seues to divide each group which consists of sub-controlled units and Walsh code is used for the M-ary CSK technique. Each block is designed and verified with TMS320C5402 DSP. We show the superiority of the proposed method by analyzing numerically the system performance for the factors of the DS/SS and CSK method ullder additive white Gaussian noise and PBI.

In this study, a single-power-conversion series-resonant ac-dc converter with high efficiency and high power factor is proposed. The proposed ac-dc converter consists of single-ended primary-inductor converter with an active-clamp circuit and a voltage doubler with series-resonant circuit. The active-clamp circuit clamps the surge voltage and provides zero-voltage switching of the main switch. The series-resonant circuit consists of leakage inductance $L_{lk}$ of the transformer and resonant capacitors $ C_{r1}$ and $ C_{r2}$. This circuit also provides zero-current switching of output diodes $D_1$ and $D_2$. Thus, the switching loss of switches and reverse-recovery loss of output diodes are considerably reduced. The proposed ac-dc converter also achieves high power factor using the proposed control algorithm without the addition of a power factor correction circuit and a dc-link electrolytic capacitor. A detailed theoretical analysis and the experimental results for a 1kW prototype are discussed.

In this paper, the reverse link performance of a imperfect power controlled DS/CDMA cellular system that uses a base station array antenna which can effectively remove the multiple access interference is analyzed considering both beam forming algorithm and power control error in shadowing. The blocking probability of the DS/CDMA cellular system based on array parameters, $E_b/N_o$ and statistics of interference is derived, and then the system capacity corresponding to a certain blocking probability is calculated. On the assumption that the blocking probability is set 1%, the system capacity using MCGM algorithm with 12 antenna arrays is more increased maximum 32 times than that using a omni-directional antenna and about 2 times than that using MMSE algorithm, respectively.
This paper proposed a regenerative braking system (RBS) strategy for battery electric vehicles (BEVs) with a hybrid energy storage system (HESS) driven by a brushless DC (BLDC) motor. In the regenerative braking mode of BEV, the BLDC motor works as a generator. Consequently, the DC-link voltage is boosted and regenerative braking energy is transferred to a battery and/or ultracapacitor (UC) using a suitable switching pattern of the three-phase inverter. The energy stored in the HESS through reverse current flow can be exploited to improve acceleration and maintain the batteries from frequent deep discharging during high power mode. In addition, the artificial neural network (ANN)-based RBS control mechanism was utilized to optimize the switching scheme of the vehicular breaking force distribution. Furthermore, constant torque braking can be regulated using a PI controller. Different simulation and experiments were implemented and carried out to verify the performance of the proposed RBS strategy. The UC/battery RBS also contributed to improved vehicle acceleration and extended range BEVs.

This paper has presented the parameters for the coexistence between two systems in macro/microcell ovelaid W-CDMA WLL (wideband CDMA wireless local loop) and has calculated the capacity of forward/reverse link in microcell. To produce the capacity for analyzing system interference effects, we have shown tables and graphs with the parameters sucyh as RF channel bandwidth of WLL(W), the transmission rate of service message(R), the required signal power to noise power ratio( $E_{b/}$$N_{0}$) for achieving accepatable error rate, te user number ( $N_{W1}$, $N_{W2}$) of the neighboring system, the signal power to interference power ratio(.GAMMA.$_{C1B}$, .GAMMA.$_{C2B}$) of the neighboring system, the normalized distance(d) between microcell and macrocell base-station, and microcell to macrocell radius ratio ( $R_{d}$). From the results, we have convinced that the capacity of microcell diminishes as increasing the user number ( $N_{W2}$) in macrocell, increasing the microcell radius, and decreasing the normalized distance(d) between microcell and macrocell base-station. Especially, we have known that when $R_{d}$=0.1, $N_{W2}$ must be below 24 at .GAMMA.$_{C2B}$ = 0 dB and below 8 at .GAMMA.$_{C2B}$ = 4 dB for the acceptable capacity raito to be over 80%. Therfore, this paper is usefult to design microcell W-CDMA WLL for accommodating more user number under the interference effects of macrocell W-CDMA WLL and is expected to be reference in power control if base-station.ation.ion.ation.ation.

The BER performance and the capacity variation of a microcell due to power control error(PCE) is analyzed on service types(data and voice, respectively) for the reverse link of an overlaid cell CDMA system. The procedure of analysis is followed as: First, we calculate BER performance according to PCE. Next, we find the minimum SNR for voice service, BER=TEX>$10^{-3}$, and data service, BER=TEX>$10^{-5}$. Then, according to the calculated SNR, we find the maximum capacity of a microcell and macrocell and the capacity of a microcell where interference is considered is found and analyzed with that in perfect power control. We get to the results as follows. The BER performance in 1 dB PCE is similar to that in perfect power control, however, with a increase in PCE, the BER performance is largely degraded. In terms of capacity, it is shown that if the PCE is equal or less than 2 dB, the effect of the PCE on voice service is more than that on data service, but if the PCE is equal or more than 3 dB, effect of the PCE on data service is more than that on voice. Besides, if the PCE is equal or less than 2 dB, both PCE and interference should be considered to calculate the capacity of a microcell, but if the PCE is equal or more than 3 dB, interference can be negligible since the effect of PCE is much stronger than that of interference. Therefore, the microcell should be located where $R_d$, the ratio of a microcell to a macrocell radius, is equal to 0.1, and d, the ratio of the distance between a microcell and a macrocell to the macrocell radius, is equal or more than 0.5, in order to obtain a appropriate microcell capacity against interference. If $\sigma$ is adjusted to less than 2 dB, we may get equal or more than 70% of the maximum microcell capacity.
