In order to identify proteins that are present in biological samples, these samples are separated and analyzed under the sequential procedure as follows: protein purification and digestion, peptide fragmentation by tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) which breaks peptides into fragments, peptide identification, and protein identification. One of the widely used methods for protein identification is based on probabilistic approaches such as ProteinProphet and BaysPro. However, they do not consider the difference in peptide identification probabilities according to their length. Here, we propose a probabilistic graphical model-based approach to protein identification from MS/MS data considering peptide identification probabilities, number of sibling peptides, and peptide length. We compared our approach with ProteinProphet using a yeast MS/MS dataset. As a result, our model identified 27 more proteins than ProteinProphet at 1% of FDR (false discovery rate), confirming the importance of peptide length information in protein identification.

Fast Fashion (fast fashion) is to reflect the latest trends and quickly create an immediate and quick with words related to clothing to distribute immediately reflect the latest fashion design, a relatively low cost, rapid product turnover means to succeed in fashion or business. The popularity of fast fashion is growing in the recent domestic fashion market. In this study, fast-fashion consumers' purchasing behavior recognition for brand identification and brand personality, brand reputation and brand identification, brand attitude, and affect the relationship between customer loyalty will be discussed. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. First, In this study, based on existing studies, brand personality and brand identification through a process that affects customer loyalty reaffirmed. Second, the 5 dimensions of brand personality and brand identification of the factors found by the sophistication and unique. Third, the brand's reputation in the brand identification had a significant impact. Fourth, brand identification, brand attitude and the impact on customer loyalty was significant.
This study intends to find usefulness of the computer assisted dental identification in mass disaster. The variety of dental characteristics was investigated through the research of dental records of 508 adults. And a computer assisted simulation program was used to evaluate the selectivity of dental identification. Findings were as follows : 1. Combinations of dental characteristics were found 155 types. The most various dental characteristic was showed on the mandibular first molar. 99.0% of subjects had dental characteristics for dental identification. 2. The posterior teeth, in comparison with anterior teeth, showed higher selectivity in dental identification which was enhanced by information on the material, type and cavity of the restoration. 3. The variety of dental characteristics was mainly found on the combinations of missing tooth with the material, type and cavity of the restoration. 4. The computer assisted dental identification program, with informa- tion about one's tooth state, made individual identification possible when there was only a part of the teeth in a corpse. 5. The computer assisted dental identification had considerably high selectivity based on the variety of dental characteristics. And it was also performed faster and preciser than the existing identification methods. Based on the results of this study, there are various combinations of the feature of the tooth itself with dental characteristics caused by a certain type of treatment on the teeth. And using the computer assisted dental identification program based on this, dental identification can be more efficient economically and more useful than any other forensic identification methods.
Unification of neural network with a hierarchical pattern recognition is presented for recognizing large set of objects. A two-step identification procedure is developed for pattern recognition: coarse and fine identification. The coarse identification is designed for finding a class of object while the fine identification procedure is to identify a specific object. During the training phase a course neural network is trained for clustering larger set of reference objects into a number of groups. For training a fine neural network, expert neural network is also trained to identify a specific object within a group. The presented idea can be interpreted as two step identification. Experimental results are given to verify the proposed methodology.
System identification is regarded as the most basic technique for structural health monitoring to evaluate structural integrity. Although many system identification techniques extracting mode information (e.g., mode frequency and mode shape) have been proposed so far, it is also desired to identify physical parameters (e.g., stiffness and damping). As for high-rise buildings subjected to long-period ground motions, system identification for evaluating only the shear stiffness based on a shear model does not seem to be an appropriate solution to the system identification problem due to the influence of overall bending response. In this paper, a system identification algorithm using a shear-bending model developed in the previous paper is revised to identify both shear and bending stiffnesses. In this algorithm, an ARX (Auto-Regressive eXogenous) model corresponding to the transfer function for interstory accelerations is applied for identifying physical parameters. For the experimental verification of the proposed system identification framework, vibration tests for a 3-story steel mini-structure are conducted. The test structure is specifically designed to measure horizontal accelerations including both shear and bending responses. In order to obtain reliable results, system identification theories for two different inputs are investigated; (a) base input motion by a modal shaker, (b) unknown forced input on the top floor.
In moving object tracking based on the visual sensory feedback, a prerequisite is to determine which feature or which object is to be tracked and then the feature or the object identification precedes the tracking. In this paper, we focus on the object identification not image feature identification. The target identification is realized by finding out corresponding line segments to the hypothesized model segments of the target. The key idea is the combination of the Mahalanobis distance with the geometrica relationship between model segments and extracted line segments. We demonstrate the robustness and feasibility of the proposed target identification algorithm by a moving vehicle identification and tracking in the video traffic surveillance system over images of a road scene.
This paper deals one of the methods of system identification, especially on-line system identification in time-domain. The algorithm in this study needs all states of the system as well input to it for system identification. In this reason, Kalman filter is used for state estimation. But in order to implement a state estimator, the fact that a system model must be known is logical contradiction. To overcome this, state estimation and system parameter estimation are performed simultaneously in one sample. And the result of the system parameter estimation is used as basis to state estimation in next sample. On-line system identification comes, in every sample by performing both processes of state estimation and parameter estimation that are related mutually and recursively. This paper demonstrates the validity of proposed algorithm through an example of an unstable inverted pendulum system. This algorithm can be useful for on-line system identification of a system that has fewer number of measurable output than system order or number of states.
Vibration-based structural identification has become an important tool for structural health monitoring and safety evaluation. However, various kinds of uncertainties (e.g., observation noise) involved in the field test data obstruct automation system identification for accurate and fast structural safety evaluation. A practical way including a data preprocessing procedure and a vector backward auto-regressive (VBAR) method has been investigated for practical bridge identification. The data preprocessing procedure serves to improve the data quality, which consists of multi-level uncertainty mitigation techniques. The VBAR method provides a determinative way to automatically distinguish structural modes from extraneous modes arising from uncertainty. Ambient test data of a cantilever beam is investigated to demonstrate how the proposed method automatically interprets vibration data for structural modal estimation. Especially, structural identification of a truss bridge using field test data is also performed to study the effectiveness of the proposed method for real bridge identification.

The neural network approach has been shown to be a general scheme for nonlinear dynamical system identification. Unfortunately the error surface of a Multilayer Neural Networks(MNN) that widely used is often highly complex. This is a disadvantage and potential traps may exist in the identification procedure. The objective of this paper is to identify a nonlinear dynamical systems based on Self-Organized Distributed Networks (SODN). The learning with the SODN is fast and precise. Such properties are caused from the local learning mechanism. Each local network learns only data in a subregion. This paper also discusses neural network as identifier of nonlinear dynamical systems. The structure of nonlinear system identification employs series-parallel model. The identification procedure is based on a discrete-time formulation. Through extensive simulation, SODN is shown to be effective for identification of nonlinear dynamical systems. Species identification is a fundamental and routine process in plant systematics, and linguistic-based dichotomous keys are widely used in the identification process. Recently, novel tools for species identification have been developed to improve the accuracy, ease to use, and accessibility related to these tasks for a broad range of users given the advances in information and communications technology. A visual identification key is such an approach, in which couplets consist of images of plants or a part of a plant instead of botanical terminology. We developed a visual identification key for 101 taxa of Orchidaceae in Korea and evaluated its performance. It uses short statements for image couplets to avoid misinterpretations by users. The key at the initial steps (couplets) uses relatively easy characters that can be determined with the naked eye. The final steps of the visual key provide images of species and information about distributions and flowering times to determine the species that best fit the available information. The number of steps required to identify a species varies, ranging from three to ten with an average of 4.5. A performance test with senior college students showed that species were accurately identified using the visual key at a rate significantly higher than when using a linguistic-based dichotomous key and a color manual. The findings presented here suggest that the proposed visual identification key is a useful tool for the teaching of biodiversity at schools, for the monitoring of ecosystems by citizens, and in other areas that require rapid, easy, and accurate identifications of species.
