  • Effects of MnO2 addition on themicrostructure, dielectric and piezoelectric properties of Rhombohedral, Tetragonal and Morphotropic phase boundary(MPB) in Pb(Ni1/3Nb2/3)O3-PbTiO3-PbZrO3 system were investigated and respectively the amount of MnO2 addition was 0, 0.2, 0.5, 1.0, 3.0wt%. In the tetragonal region, compared with the Rhombohedral and Morpotropic phase boundary, Mechanical quality factor(Qm), Curie temperature(Tc) and Dissipation factor were promoted by addition of MnO2. According to the results of the microstructure, dielectric and piezoelectric properties, the solid solution range of MnO2 addition in this system was 0.2-0.5wt%.

Magnetic and Electrical Properties of the Spin Valve Structures with Amorphous CoNbZr

  • A spin valve structure of NiO(40 nm)/Co(2 nm)/Cu(2.6 nm)/Co(x nm)/Ta(5 nm) has been investigated for the application of magnetic random access memory (MRAM). The spin valve structure exhibited very large difference in the coercivities between pinned and free layers, a relatively high GMR ratio, and a low free layer coercivity. The spin valves were prepared by sputtering and were characterized by dc 4-point probe, and VSM. The spin valves with combined free layer exhibited a maximun GMR ratio of 10.4% with a free layer coercivity of about 82 Oe. The spin valves with a single 10 nm thick a-CoNbZr free layer exhibited a GMR ratio of about 4.3% with a free layer coercivity of about 12 Oe. The GMR ratio of the spin valves increased by addition of Co between Cu and a-CoNbZr. It has been confirmed that the coercivity of free layer can be decreased by increasing the thickness of a-CoNbZr. It has been confirmed that the coercivity of free layer can be decreased by increasing the thickness of a-CoNbZr layer without losing the GMR ratio substantially, which was mainly due to high resistivity of the amorphous "layers".

Formation and Growth of Hydride Blisters in Zr-2.5Nb Pressure Tubes

  • Hydride blisters were formed on the outer surface of Zr-2.5Nb pressure tube by a non- uniform steady thermal diffusion process. A thermal gradient was applied to the pressure tube with a heat bath kept at a temperature of 415$^{\circ}C$ and an aluminum cold finger cooled with flowing water of 15$^{\circ}C$. Optical microscopy and tree-dimensional laser profilometry were used to characterize the hydride blisters with different hydrogen concentrations and thermal diffusion time. Hydride blisters were expected to start at a hydrogen concentration of 30 - 70 ppm and a thermal diffusion time of 4 - 6$\times$10$^{5}$ sec. The hydride blister size increases with higher hydrogen concentrations and longer thermal diffusion time . Some of the samples revealed cracks on the hydride blisters. The ratio of hydride blister depth to height was estimated as approximately 8: 1.

  • The piezoelectric properties and the doping effect of Nb$_2$O$_{5}$ for 0.95 PbZr$_{x}$ Ti$_{1-x}$ -O$_3$+0.05 Pb(Mnsub 1/3/Nb$_{2}$3/)O$_3$ compositions have been investigated. In the composition of 0.95PbZr$_{0.51}$Ti$_{0.49}$O$_3$+0.05Pb(Mn$_{1}$3/Nb/syb 2/3/)O$_3$ the values of k$_{p}$ and $\varepsilon$$_{33}$ $^{T}$ are maximized, but Q$_{m}$ was minimized (k$_{p}$ =0.57, Q$_{m}$ =1550). The grain size was suppressed and the uniformity of grain was improves with doping concentration of Nb$_2$O$_{5}$ far 0.95PbZr$_{0.51}$Ti$_{0.49}$O$_3$+0.05Pb(Mn$_{1}$3/Nb/syb 2/3/)O$_3$. sample. The values of k$_{p}$ first decreased slightly when a small amount of Nb$^{5+}$ is doped and then decreased when the Nb$^{5+}$ concentration is further increased. The Q$_{m}$ . OR the Other hand. increased monotonously with doping concentration of Nb$_2$O$_{5}$ .{5}$ . .

고온변형시 Zr-2.5wt%Nb합금에서의 어닐경화와 유동연화거동

  • 본 연구는 Zr-2.5wt%Nb합금의 고온변형특성중 특이한 유동응력의 변화거동인 어닐경화와 유동연화의 기구에 대해 고찰하였다. 연구결과에서 이러한 고온변형특성은 온도와 다단변형도중의 어닐링 시간에 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났으나 분위기 영향은 없는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 변형 온도와 동일온도인 85$0^{\circ}C$에서 단시간인 5분동안 어닐링을 했을때 경화현상이 일어났다. 미세조직을 관찰한 결과 다단열간압연된 후의 미세조직과 집합조직은 다단열간압연된 미세조직과 집합조직과 직접적인 상관관계를 가진 것으로 나타났다. 어닐경화현상은 다단고온변형이 궁극적으로 변형시효와 유사한 효과 즉, 중간어닐링 동안에 Zr-2.5wt%Nb내의 불순물 원자와 열간압연시에 형성된 전위구조와의 강력한 인력형 상호작용하여 substructure가 안정화되기 때문이며 유동연화는 재결정으로 인한 유동응력의 감소인 것으로 사료된다.

Evaluation of Corrosion Resistance of Ti-Zr-Nb-Pd Based Alloys for Biomedical applications by electron Theory (전자론에 의한 생체용 Ti-Zr-Nb-Pd계 합금의 내식성 평가)

  • In order to understand alloying effects on the corrosion resistance of Ti-(10$\sim$20)%Zr-(2$\sim$8%)Nb-0.2%Pd alloys, Polarization curves were measured at 5%HCI solution. The results were interpreted in terms of two parameters obtained by the molecular orbital calculation ; one is the bond order($B_{\circ}$) and the other is the metal d-orbital level($M_{d}$). $B_{\circ}$ is a measure of the strength of covalent bonds between titanium and alloying elements. $M_{d}$ is correlative with the electronegativity of elements. It was found that increasing of Zr and Nb with higher $B_{\circ}$ values showed a lower critical anodic current density in the polarization curve and hence higher corrosion resistance. On the other hand, increasing of Zr and Nb with higher $M_{d}$ values showed a higher corrosion resistance.

  • In this study the system of $Pb(Mn_{1/3} Nb_{2/3})O_3-PbTiO_3-PbZrO_3$ piexoelectric ceramics was made in the radial mode disk and attenuation characteristic of the desinged ladder type filter was investigated. What is more temperature dependance of resonant frequency and variation of resonant frequency was examined by chan-ging the electrode diameter of piezoelectric resonator. (A Group : De=11mm, B Group : De=7.5mm and C Gro-up : De=5.5mm) Upon investigation it was the following. The center frequency of A, B and c filter showed up in the 200KHz, 270KHz and 380KHz respectively. As the electrode diameter decreased center frequency in creased abruptly. As the Co_2/Co1 increased attenuation characteristics and selectivity was improved. As the x=50. resonant frequ-ency invaried with variation of temperature.

Electrochemical Characteristics of Nanotubular Ti-25Nb-xZr Ternary Alloys for Dental Implant Materials

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the electrochemical characteristics of nanotubular Ti-25Nb-xZr ternary alloys for dental implant materials. Materials and Methods: Ti-25Nb-xZr alloys with different Zr contents (0, 3, 7, and 15 wt.%) were manufactured using commercially pure titanium (CP-Ti), niobium (Nb), and zirconium (Zr) (99.95 wt.% purity). The alloys were prepared by arc melting in argon (Ar) atmosphere. The Ti-25Nb-xZr alloys were homogenized in Ar atmosphere at $1,000^{\circ}C$ for 12 hours followed by quenching into ice water. The microstructure of the Ti-25Nb-xZr alloys was examined by a field emission scanning electron microscope. The phases in the alloys were identified by an X-ray diffractometer. The chemical composition of the nanotube-formed surfaces was determined by energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. Self-organized $TiO_2$ was prepared by electrochemical oxidation of the samples in a $1.0M\;H_3PO_4+0.8wt.%$ NaF electrolyte. The anodization potential was 30 V and time was 1 hour by DC supplier. Surface wettability was evaluated for both the metallographically polished and nanotube-formed surfaces using a contact-angle goniometer. The corrosion properties of the specimens were investigated using a 0.9 wt.% aqueous solution of NaCl at $36^{\circ}C{\pm}5^{\circ}C$ using a potentiodynamic polarization test. Result: Needle-like structure of Ti-25Nb-xZr alloys was transform to equiaxed structure as Zr content increased. Nanotube formed on Ti-25Nb-xZr alloys show two sizes of nanotube structure. The diameters of the large tubes decreased and small tubes increased as Zr content increased. The lower contact angles for nanotube formed Ti-25NbxZr alloys surfaces showed compare to non-nanotube formed surface. The corrosion resistance of alloy increased as Zr content increased, and nanotube formed surface showed longer the passive regions compared to non-treatment surface. Conclusion: It is confirmed that corrosion resistance of alloy increased as Zr content increased, and nanotube formed surface has longer passive region compared to without treatment surface.

  • The fission neutron reactions of $^{47}Ti(n.p)^{47}Sc$ and $^{93}Nb(n,{\alpha})^{90m}Y$, along with epicadmium neutron reaction of $^{96}Zr(n,{\gamma})^{97}Zr$ were used for the simultaneous determination of Ti, Nb and Zr in synthetic mixture. Prior to neutron irradiation, Ti, Zr and Nb in the mixture were separated together in one group through the cation exchange column of Dowex $50{\times}8$ resin using 0.5 M ${\alpha}$-hydroxy-iso-butyric acid as the eluent. After irradiation of the eluate the product nuclides, $^{97}Zr$, ^{47}Sc$ and ^{90m}Y$, were eluted sequentially through the same column with 0.5 M ${\alpha}$-HIBA, 0.5 M ${\alpha}$-HIBA-1 N HNO_3 and 0.5 M ${\alpha}$-HIBA-2 N HNO_3$ solution, respectively. The gamma-ray spectrometry was used for the measurement of the gamma-ray activities of the eluted nuclides. The detection limits of Nb, Ti and Zr were found to be 0.2 %, 0.01 % and 0.002 %, respectively.

Sintering of ZrO2-modified 0.96(K0.5Na0.5)NbO3-0.04SrZrO3 Piezoelectric Ceramics in a Reduced Atmosphere (ZrO2 첨가된 0.96(K0.5Na0.5)NbO3-0.04SrZrO3 압전세라믹스의 환원분위기 소결)

  • The most widely used piezoelectric ceramics are lead oxide based ferroelectrics (PZT). However, the toxicity of lead oxide and its high vapor pressure during processing have led to a demand for alternative lead-free piezoelectric materials. We synthesized Lead-free piezoelectric ceramics of $0.96(K_{0.5}Na_{0.5})NbO_3-0.04SrZrO_3+x$ mol% $ZrO_2$ [KNN-SZ+$xZrO_2$; x= 0~0.10] doped with 0.1 wt% $MnO_2$ by a conventional solid state method. We investigated the piezoelectric properties and microstructures of these disk samples sintered in reduced atmosphere in order to evaluate the possibility of the multilayered piezoelectric ceramics having the base metal such as Ni as a internal electrode. All of these KNN-SZ samples sintered in 3%$H_2-97%N_2$ atmosphere at $1,140^{\circ}C$ exhibit pure perovskite structure irrespective of the content of $ZrO_2$. Meanwhile, the sintering denisty and piezoelectric properties such as $K_p$, $Q_m$ and $d_{33}$ of KNN-SZ samples as a function of $ZrO_2$ content show the maxima ($k_p$=28.07%, $Q_m$= 101.34, $d_{33}$= 156 pC/N) at x= 0.04 and it is likely that there is some morphotropic phase boundary(MPB) in this KNN-SZ+$xZrO_2$ composition system. These results indicate that the ceramic composition is a promising candidate material for applications in lead free multilayer piezoelectric ceramics.
