$Cd_{0.5}Zn_{0.5}S/ZnO$ composite photocatalysts were synthesized using the precipitation method and characterized by XRD, UV-vis DRS, PL and FE-SEM. Photocatalytic activities of the materials were evaluated by measuring the degradation of rhodamine B under visible light irradiation. Contrary to ZnO, $Cd_{0.5}Zn_{0.5}S/ZnO$ materials absorb visible light as well as UV and their absorption intensities in visible region increased with increasing the $Cd_{0.5}Zn_{0.5}S$ amount. The increment in the $Cd_{0.5}Zn_{0.5}S$ content in $Cd_{0.5}Zn_{0.5}S/ZnO$ also leads to reducing the particle size and consequently increasing the specific surface area. $Cd_{0.5}Zn_{0.5}S/ZnO$ materials with the larger $Cd_{0.5}Zn_{0.5}S$ content showed the higher activity in the photocatalytic degradation of rhodamine B under visible light irradiation. Therefore, the heterojunction effect between $Cd_{0.5}Zn_{0.5}S$ and ZnO as well as the adsorption capacity seems to give important contributions to the photocatalytic activity of the $Cd_{0.5}Zn_{0.5}S/ZnO$.
ZnO and Mn-substituted $Zn_{0.95}Mn_{0.05}O$ were synthesized by using precipitation method. $Zn_{0.95}Mn_{0.05}O$ compound absorbed UV light as well as hole range of visible light ($400{\sim}800$ nm). Results obtained revealed that $Zn_{0.95}Mn_{0.05}O$ showed higher activity than P-25 for visible-photocatalytic degradation of 1,4- dichlorobenzene.
We used isopropanol which has low boiling point to prepare thin films at low temperature and changed mole concentration of zinc acetate from 0.3 to 1.3 mol/l. The structural, optical and electrical properties of ZnO thin films with Zn content were investigated. ZnO thin films highly oriented along the c-axis were obtained at Zn concentration of 0.7 mol/l. ZnO thin films with Zn concentration of 0.7 mol/l showed a homogeneous surface layer of nano structure. The transmittance of ZnO thin films by UV-vis. measurement was about 87% under the Zn concentration of 0.7 mol/l, but rapidly decreased over the 1.0 mol/l. The optical band gap energy was obtained from 3.07 to 3.22 eV which is very close to the band gap of bulk ZnO (3.2 eV). The electrical resistivity of ZnO thin films was about 150 $\Omega$-cm that shows little difference with Zn concentration. I-V curves of ZnO thin films exhibited typical ohmic contact properties.
Microstructure and electrical properties of ZnO-doped (0-5 mol%) 0.05 Pb(Mn1/3Sb2/3)O3-0.95 PZT ceramics were investigated. Sintering temperature was decreased to 100$0^{\circ}C$ due to eutetic reaction between PbO and ZnO. Grain-size increased up to adding 1mol% ZnO and then decreased. Compositions of grain and grain-boundary were investigated by WDS. Lattice parameter was decreased with ZnO addition. Density increased with ZnO addition and reached to the maximum of 7.84(g/cm2) at 2 mol% ZnO. The effect of ZnO on electrical properties of PMS-PZT was investigated. At 3mol% ZnO addition electromechanical coupling factor(kp) was about 50% and relative dielectric constant($\varepsilon$33/$\varepsilon$0) was 997 Mechanical quality factor(Qm) decreased with ZnO addition. Lattice parameters and tetragonality(c/a) were measured to investigate relationship between the electric properties and substitution of Zn2+. At 3 mol% ZnO tetragonality was maximiged at c/a=1.0035 Curie temperature (Tc) decreased slightly with ZnO addition.
NiCuZn ferrites were prepared by a solid-state reaction and sintered at $900^{\circ}C$ for 5 hours. Its properties were investigated by controlling the ferrite composition and processing. NiCuZn ferrite with a composition of ${(Ni_{0.2}Cu_{0.2}Zn_{0.6}O)}_{1.02}{(Fe_{2}O_{3})}_{0.98}$ was found to have the maximum initial permeability as a result of the variation of Cu content and the (Ni+Cu)/Zn ratio. Curie temperature($T_{c}$) of NiCuZn ferrite was decreased with the larger Cu content and increased with the larger Ni content. NiCuZn ferrites of ${(Ni_{0.2}Cu_{0.2}Zn_{0.6}O)}_{1-w}{(Fe_{2}O_{3})}_{1+w}$ composition milled for 20~80 hours had the maximum initial permeability at w=-0.015 and Curie temperature ($T_{c}$) was decreased with the increasing of $Fe_{2}O_{3}$ deficiency(w).
RGB light emitting ZnSe based nanocrystals: ZnSe (blue), ZnSe:Cu (green) and ZnSe:Mn (red) were synthesized by capping the surface of the nanocrystals with oleic acid. The obtained nanocrystal powders were characterized by using XRD, HR-TEM, ICP-AES, FT-IR, and FT-Raman spectroscopies. The optical properties were also measured by UV/Vis and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopies. The PL spectra showed broad emission peaks at 471 nm (ZnSe), 530 nm (ZnSe:Cu) and 665 nm (ZnSe:Mn), with relative PL efficiencies in the range of 0.7% to 5.1% compared to a reference organic dye standard. The measured average particle sizes from the HR-TEM images for those three nanocrystals were 4.5 nm on average, which were also supported well by the Debye-Scherrer calculations. The elemental compositions of the ZnSe based nanocrystals were determined by ICP-AES analyses. Finally, the drawn CIE diagram showed the color coordinates of (0.15, 0.16) for ZnSe, (0.22, 0.57) for ZnSe:Cu, and (0.62, 0.35) for ZnSe:Mn respectively, which were fairly well matched to that of the RGB color standards.
Nanostructured spinel NiZn ferrites were prepared by the sol-gel method from metal nitrate raw materials. Analyses by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy showed the average particle size of NiZn ferrite was under 50 nm. The single phase of NiZn ferrites was obtained by firing at 250${\circ}C$, resulting in nanoparticles exhibiting normal ferrimagnetic behavior. The nanostructured $Ni_{1-X}Zn_XFe_2O_4$ (x=0.0∼1.0) were found to have the cubic spinel structure of which the lattice constants ${\alpha}_2$ increases linearly from 8.339 to 8.427 ${\AA}$ with increasing Zn content x, following Vegard's law, approximately. The saturation magnetization $M_s$ was 48 emu/g for x=0.4 and decreased to 8.0 emu/g for higher Zn contents suggesting the typical ferrimagnetism in mixed spinel ferrites. Pure NiZn ferrite phase substituted by Cu was observed before using the additive but hematite phase was partially appeared at $Ni_{0.2}Zn_{0.2}Cu_{0.6}Fe_2O_4$. On the other hand, the hematite phase in this NiZn Cu ferrite was disappeared after using the additive of acethyl aceton with small amount. The saturation magnetization Ms of $Ni_{0.2}Zn_{0.8-y}Cu_yFe_2O_4$(y=0.2∼0.6) as measured was about 51 emu/g at 77K and 19 emu/g at room temperature, respectively.
Microstructueral development and electrical properties in ZnO-Bi2O3-ZnAl2O4 system were investigated with ZnAl2O4 content(0.1~1.0 mol%). The shrinakge of specimens started around $700^{\circ}C$ and finished at 110$0^{\circ}C$, reaching a maximum shrinkage rate at 80$0^{\circ}C$. The shrinkage rate is strongly related to the fromation of a Bi-rich liquid. The increase of the ZnAl2O4 content inhibited the grain growth of ZnO. Most of ZnAl2O4 particles located at the grain boundaries were about 2~3${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. ZnO grain size changed little up to 110$0^{\circ}C$, but increased markedly above 115$0^{\circ}C$, especially at lower ZnAl2O4 content. Drastic decreasing in breakdown voltage(Vb) with increasing temperature is expected to be dependent on the ZnO grain size and the distribution of the largest grains between the electrode. The nonlinear I-V characteristic was significantly influenced by the ZnAl2O4 content, which exhibited a maximum value at about 15${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ of ZnO grain size.
This experiment was designed to evaluate the effects of source of supplemental zinc (Zn) on performance, nutrient digestibility and plasma mineral profile in Cashmere goats during the cashmere fiber growing period. Twenty-seven Liao Ning Cashmere wether goats (9-10 month of age; initial BW = 19.31${\pm}$0.32 kg) were fed a basal diet (containing 22.3 mg Zn/kg DM) with no supplemental Zn (control) or 20 mg of supplemental Zn/kg of DM from Zn sulfate ($ZnSO_{4}$) or Zn methionine (ZnMet) for 60 days including a 10-day metabolism trial. Average daily gain (ADG) (p<0.05) and gain:feed (G/F) (p<0.05) were increased by Zn supplementation, but no differences were noted between Zn sources (p>0.05). The length and diameter of cashmere fiber did not differ among treatments (p>0.05). Zn supplementation had no influence on digestibility of DM, CP, EE and NDF (p>0.05). However, ADF digestibility in the group supplemented with ZnMet was significantly higher than in other treatments (p<0.05). Plasma Zn was increased (p<0.05) and Cu tended to be decreased (p = 0.057) by Zn supplementation, but no differences were found between Zn sources (p>0.05). Plasma alkaline phosphatase activity (AKP) was improved by Zn supplementation (p<0.05) and was higher in the $ZnSO_{4}$ than the ZnMet group (p<0.05). Zn retention was increased (p<0.05) and apparent absorption rate was decreased (p<0.05) by Zn supplementation. The results indicate that supplementation of 20 mg Zn/kg DM either as $ZnSO_{4}$ or ZnMet in the basal diet containing 22.3 mg Zn/kg DM can improve growth performance in Cashmere goats, and effectiveness of the two sources is similar on performance measurements.
The magnetic properties, especially the magnetostriction, of ferroxplana $Zn_{1-x}$$M_X$Y(x=0.0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6) were investigated at room temperature. In general, the Curie temperature and the permeability of ferroxplana $Zn_{1-X}$$Mn_X$Y increased while the amount of the other phase decrease with increased concentration of dopant $Mn^{2+} for $Zn^{2+}. The magnetostriction constnats K1, K2, K3 and K4 for ZnY were +0.3, -5.0, -4.3 and $-4.8{\times}$$10^{-6} while that for 4Zn^0.8$$Mn^0.2$Y were +2.5, -5.4, -6.0 and $-3.4{\times}10^{-6}$, respectively.
