  • It is common to encounter count data with excess zeros in various research fields such as the social sciences, natural sciences, medical science or engineering. Such count data have been explained mainly by zero-inflated Poisson model and extended models. Zero-inflated count data are also often correlated or clustered, in which random effects should be taken into account in the model. Frequentist approaches have been commonly used to fit such data. However, a Bayesian approach has advantages of prior information, avoidance of asymptotic approximations and practical estimation of the functions of parameters. We consider a Bayesian zero-inflated Poisson regression model with random effects for correlated zero-inflated count data. We conducted simulation studies to check the performance of the proposed model. We also applied the proposed model to smoking behavior data from the Regional Health Survey (2015) of the Korea Centers for disease control and prevention.

  • This paper presents application results of the augmented matrix eigen-sensitivity theories to TCSC siting problem for damping the inter-area low frequency oscillation in the large KEPCO system. First and second-order eigen-sensitivities of the inter-area low frequency oscillation in the large KEPCO system. First and second-order eigen-sensitivities of the inter-area mode are computed fro changes in susceptance of the transmission lines. The lines having high sensitivity are chosen as the initial candidates for installing TCSC. Then for each of the chosen candidates, Bodeplot of the transfer function with line susceptance as the input and the bus voltage at one side of the line as the output is computed. Using the Bode plots, the lines having any zeros near the inter-area mode are screened out since design of TCSC controller is very difficult in such a case. The $H_{\infty}$ TCSC controller installed at any finally chosen candidate is found to be effective in damping the inter-area oscillation, and the proposed TCSC siting algorithm is proved to be valid. Design of $H_{\infty}$ controller is described in Part IIof this paper.

  • In this paper, the application of a variable characteristic impedance transmission line that can be used to design a dual-band bandpass filter(BPF) is presented. The proposed filter offers a fixed first frequency passband and a controllable second passband. The tuning of the second passband is achieved by varying the characteristic impedance of and open shunt stub line in a stub loaded resonator(SLR) with the help of a defected ground structure(DGS) transmission line and varactor diodes. In order to validate the proposed structure, a two stage dual-band BPF with three transmission zeros was implemeted and experimentally verified based on its theoretical predictions and simulations.

  • X-ray digital tomosynthesis is widely used in the nondestructive testing and evaluation, especially for the printed circuit boards (PCBs). In this study, we propose a simple method to reduce the blur artefact, frequently claimed in the conventional digital tomosynthesis based on SAA (shift-and-add) algorithm, and thus restore the image sharpness. The proposed method is basically based on the SAA, but has a correction procedure by finding blur artefacts from the forward-and back-projection for the firstly obtained, manipulated backprojection data. The manipulation is the replacement of the original data at the POI (plane-of-interest) by zeros. This method has been compared with the conventional SAA algorithm using the experimental measurements and Monte Carlo simulation for the designed PCB phantom. The comparison showed a much enhancement of sharpness in the images obtained from the proposed method.

  • This paper presents a novel modified coaxial cavity resonator and its application to bandpass filters with compact size and improved quality factor(Q-factor). The proposed resonator is made up of ${\Gamma}-shape$ or curved four inner conductive posts within a single cavity, which provides quadruplet to realize bandpass filter. No metallic walls inside the cavity are required, and thus the utilization efficiency of the cavity space is improved. As a result, the unloaded Q can be approximately 15 % higher in comparison to the conventional coaxial resonator, or more than 35 % volume saving can be achieved while maintaining the similar Q-factor value with the conventional designs. In addition, due to the multiple cross-coupling occurring within the cavity, including the source-to-load coupling, four flexible transmission zeros can be created to realize different filtering functions. Simulations as well as experimental results of four- and eight-pole filters are presented to validate this attractive design concept. Good agreement between measured and computed results is obtained.

  • Let M be the maximal ideal space of the Banach algebra $H^{\infty}$ of bounded analytic functions on the open unit disc $\triangle$. For a positive singular measure ${\mu}\;on\;{\partial\triangle},\;let\;{L_{+}}^1(\mu)$ be the set of measures v with $0\;{\leq}\;{\nu}\;{\ll}\;{\mu}\;and\;{{\psi}_{\nu}}$ the associated singular inner functions. Let $R(\mu)\;and\;R_0(\mu)$ be the union sets of $\{$\mid$\psiv$\mid$\;<\;1\}\;and\;\{$\mid${\psi}_{\nu}$\mid$\;<\;0\}\;in\;M\;{\setminus}\;{\triangle},\;{\nu}\;\in\;{L_{+}}^1(\mu)$, respectively. It is proved that if $S(\mu)\;=\;{\partial\triangle}$, where $S(\mu)$ is the closed support set of $\mu$, then $R(\mu)\;=\;R0(\mu)\;=\;M{\setminus}({\triangle}\;{\cup}\;M(L^{\infty}(\partial\triangle)))$ is generated by $H^{\infty}\;and\;\overline{\psi_{\nu}},\;{\nu}\;{\in}\;{L_1}^{+}(\mu)$. It is proved that %d{\theta}(S(\mu))\;=\;0$ if and only if there exists as Blaschke product b with zeros $\{Zn\}_n$ such that $R(\mu)\;{\subset}\;{$\mid$b$\mid$\;<\;1}\;and\;S(\mu)$ coincides with the set of cluster points of $\{Zn\}_n$. While, we proved that $\mu$ is a sum of finitely many point measure such that $R(\mu)\;{\subset}\;\{$\mid${\psi}_{\lambda}$\mid$\;<\;1}\;and\;S(\lambda)\;=\;S(\mu)$. Also it is studied conditions on \mu for which $R(\mu)\;=\;R0(\mu)$.

  • How can we effectively compress big graphs composed of billions of edges? By concentrating non-zeros in the adjacency matrix through vertex rearrangement, we can compress big graphs more efficiently. Also, we can boost the performance of several graph mining algorithms such as PageRank. SlashBurn is a state-of-the-art vertex rearrangement method. It processes real-world graphs effectively by utilizing the power-law characteristic of the real-world networks. However, the original SlashBurn algorithm displays a noticeable slowdown for large-scale graphs, and cannot be used at all when graphs are too large to fit in a single machine since it is designed to run on a single machine. In this paper, we propose a distributed SlashBurn algorithm to overcome these limitations. Distributed SlashBurn processes big graphs much faster than the original SlashBurn algorithm does. In addition, it scales up well by performing the large-scale vertex rearrangement process in a distributed fashion. In our experiments using real-world big graphs, the proposed distributed SlashBurn algorithm was found to run more than 45 times faster than the single machine counterpart, and process graphs that are 16 times bigger compared to the original method.

  • In this paper, the design of a compact triple-mode bandpass filter using a high-Q cylindrical dielectric resonator is proposed. In detail, the triple $TE_{01{\delta}}$ modes along three orthogonal axes are used and novel coupling structure in the metallic enclosure is adopted to introduce the coupling between the resonant modes. Due to the cross coupling, the proposed bandpass filter has an asymmetric frequency response with flexible three transmission zeros, one of which can be located very close to the passband edge to provide an extremely sharp skirt characteristic with low insertion loss. The proposed filter is about 60 % miniaturized compared with conventional single-mode dielectric resonator filter. The proposed bandpass filter design is validated by the circuit and 3D EM simulations and measurements compared to the target specifications.

  • The Ghosh and Kim zero-altered distribution model is used to analyze count data that have too many or too few zeros. The dispersion type parameter ${\delta}$ in the zero-altered distribution model consists of mean, variance and zero probability and has two forms depending on the relation between ${\mu}$ and ${\sigma}^2$. We derived the influence function on ${\delta}$ when ${\sigma}^2{\geq}{\mu}$. To show the validity of the influence function, we used the Census data on the number of births of married women in Korea to compare the estimated changes in ${\delta}$ using this function with those obtained using the direct deletion method. The result proved that the obtained influence function is very accurate in estimating changes in ${\delta}$ when an observation is deleted.

  • Low noise amplifier (LNA) is an integral component of RF receiver and frequently required to operate at wide frequency bands for various wireless system applications. For wideband operation, important performance metrics such as voltage gain, return loss, noise figure and linearity have been carefully investigated and characterized for the proposed LNA. An inductive shunt feedback configuration is successfully employed in the input stage of the proposed LNA which incorporates cascaded networks with a peaking inductor in the buffer stage. Design equations for obtaining low and high impedance-matching frequencies are easily derived, leading to a relatively simple method for circuit implementation. Careful theoretical analysis explains that input impedance can be described in the form of second-order frequency response, where poles and zeros are characterized and utilized for realizing the wideband response. Linearity is significantly improved because the inductor located between the gate and the drain decreases the third-order harmonics at the output. Fabricated in $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS process, the chip area of this wideband LNA is $0.202mm^2$, including pads. Measurement results illustrate that the input return loss shows less than -7 dB, voltage gain greater than 8 dB, and a little high noise figure around 6-8 dB over 1.5 - 13 GHz. In addition, good linearity (IIP3) of 2.5 dBm is achieved at 8 GHz and 14 mA of current is consumed from a 1.8 V supply.
