  • This paper presents a novel predictive digital control method for boundary conduction mode PFC converters without the need for detecting the inductor current. In the proposed method, the inductor current is predicted by analytical equations instead of being detected by a sensing-resistor. The predicted zero-crossing point of the inductor current is determined by the values of the input voltage, output voltage and predicted inductor current. Importantly, the prediction of zero-crossing point is achieved in just a single switching cycle. Therefore, the errors in predictive calculation caused by parameter variations can be compensated. The prediction of the zero-crossing point with the proposed method has been shown to have good accuracy. The proposed method also shows high stability towards variations in both the inductance and output power. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed predictive digital control method for PFC converters.

  • In this paper, we propose a modified watershed algorithm to obtain exact edge of region. The proposed method adjusts priority at zero-crossing point of gradient in order to make the point of region decision time postponed. We compare the proposed method with a previous method and prove that this method can extract more correct edge of region.

  • In the case of a system that detects and controls the phase of an alternating voltage, the analog control method compensates the phase offset part by filtering for the detected phase and applies it to the control. However, in the digital control method, precise control cannot be achieved due to an error between the operating frequency of the microprocessor or the microcontroller and the input phase time when controlled using such phase detection. In general, when the method used is a certain time, the accumulated error is compensated and adjusted at random. To solve this problem, a method of detecting a zero point in real time and compensating for the operating frequency of the microprocessor is needed. Therefore, the research to be performed in this paper to reduce these errors and apply them to precise digital control is as follows. 1) Research on how to implement Zero Crossing Detection algorithm through simulation modeling to compensate the zero point to match the operating frequency through detection. 2) A study on the method of detecting zero points in real time through the Zero Crossing Detection design using a microcontroller and compensating for the operating frequency of the microprocessor. 3) A study on the estimation of the rotor position of BLDC motors using the Zero Crossing Detection circuit.

  • A Method for detection of saturation of a current transformer(CT) is proposed. The algorithm is initiated when the end point of a saturation period is detected. This detection is achieved by checking the time interval between the adjacent zero-crossing points of the second derivative of the secondary current. Once the end point of the saturation period is detected, the beginning point of the corresponding saturation period is determined by backward examination of the sum of the secondary current from the end point. The performance of the algorithm was evaluated for a-g faults on a 345 kV 100km overhead transmission line. The Electromagnetic Transient Program(EMTP) was used to generate fault current signals for different fault inception angles and different remanent fluxes. The performance evaluation shows that the proposed algorithm successfully detects the saturation period even in the presence of a remanent flux.

  • This study presents a method for reducing current distortion that occurs when a dual-buck inverter generates reactive power. Dual-buck inverters, which are only capable of unity power factor operation, can generate reactive power capabilities by modifying a modulation technique. However, under non-unity power factor conditions, current distortion occurs at zero-crossing points of grid voltage and output current. This distortion is caused by parasitic capacitors, dead-time, and discontinuous conduction mode operation. This study proposes a modified modulation method to alleviate the current distortion at zero-crossing point of the grid voltage. A repetitive controller is applied to reduce this distortion of the output current. A 1 kVA prototype is built and tested. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • This paper presents a scheme to improve the line current distortion of power factor corrector (PFC) topology at the zero crossing point using a predictive control algorithm in both the continuous conduction mode (CCM) and discontinuous conduction mode (DCM). The line current in single-phase PFC topology is distorted at the zero crossing point of the input AC voltage because of the characteristic of the general proportional integral (PI) current controller. This distortion degrades the line current quality, such as the total harmonic distortion (THD) and the power factor (PF). Given the optimal duty cycle calculated by estimating the next state current in both the CCM and DCM, the proposed predictive control algorithm has a fast dynamic response and accuracy unlike the conventional PI current control method. These advantages of the proposed algorithm lower the line current distortion of PFC topology. The proposed method is verified through PSIM simulations and experimental results with 1.5 kW bridgeless PFC (BLPFC) topology.

  • For general laser power supply. output of the secondary of the power transformer is connected to the rectifier and filter capacitor. The output of a rectifier is applied to a switching element in the secondary of the transformer. So, power supply is complicated and the loss of switching is considerably. In addition, according to increasing pulse repetition. charged energy of energy storage capacitor is not transferred sufficiently to flashlamp. and laser output efficiency decreases. In this paper, to improve laser efficiency. we designed and fabricated the power supply in which the SCR was turned on in zero point by the method of ZCC(zero crossing control)in result, laser output efficiency in creased by about 3.5% other than conventional supply. when a repetition rate was increased by 10[pps]. In 60[pps]. efficiency was about 20%.

  • This paper presents a simplified analysis on the rotor position detection error in sensorless interior permanent magnet brushless DC motor (BLDCM) drives, wherein terminal voltage sensing based on the back-electromotive force (back-EMF) zero-crossing point detecting circuitry is employed. The effect of a rotor saliency on the back-EMF's zero-crossing point detection is analyzed using the extended EMF-based voltage equation of the interior permanent BLDCM in a stationary reference frame, and thus the overall analysis is considerably simplified compared to the conventional one. Simulation results are provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • In this paper, a new approach for Korean connected digits recognition using the spatio-temporal neural network is reported. The data of seven digits phone numbers are used in the recognition of connected words, and in the initial experiment, digit recognition rate of 28% was achieved. In this paper, to increase recognition rate, two different approaches are analyzed. In the first system, to compensate the STNN's own defect and to emphasize the Korean word's phonic characters, the starting point of phone is pointed by comparing the average magnitude and zero-crossing rate and the ending point is pointed by comparing only zero-crossing rate. The digit recoginiton rate increased to 61%. Also, in the second system, to consider fact that same word's phone is varied severally, the number of STNN's of each word is increased from one to five, and then the varied same word's phones can be included to the increased STNN's. The digit recogniton rate of connected words increased to 89%.
