Simulation of a Non-Directional Wave Spectrum Analysis with Welch's Method

  • Simulation and signal conditioning on the time domain surface elevation records are conducted to verify the proposed Welch's method in non-directional ocean wave spectrum analysis. These spectrum data are further conditioned to provide wave characteristic that better describe the sea states. Comparison of significant wave height and zero crossing period between the proposed method and a reference toolkit are presented.

전류변성기의 포화 검출을 위한 알고리즘 개발 (Method for Detection of Saturation of a Current Transformer)

  • A Method for detection of saturation of a current transformer(CT) is proposed. The algorithm is initiated when the end point of a saturation period is detected. This detection is achieved by checking the time interval between the adjacent zero-crossing points of the second derivative of the secondary current. Once the end point of the saturation period is detected, the beginning point of the corresponding saturation period is determined by backward examination of the sum of the secondary current from the end point. The performance of the algorithm was evaluated for a-g faults on a 345 kV 100km overhead transmission line. The Electromagnetic Transient Program(EMTP) was used to generate fault current signals for different fault inception angles and different remanent fluxes. The performance evaluation shows that the proposed algorithm successfully detects the saturation period even in the presence of a remanent flux.

Development an embedded module for nondirectional wave spectrum analysis

  • This embedded module measures significant wave height and zero crossing periods through spectral energy from a record of time series heave motion. An ARM7TDMI core microcontroller serves as the main control unit which performs the appropriate control and signal conditioning. Monitored wave characteristic is transmitted with satellite modem. Mathematical equations on signal conditioning and experiments procedures are documented in this paper.

  • This paper discusses the influence on long-tenn predictions of the ship response in ocean by using the Global Wave Statistics data, GWS, and wave information from the remote sensing satellites. GWS's standard scatter diagrams of significant wave height and zero-crossing wave period are suggested to be corrected to a round number of 0.01/1000 fitted with a statistical analytic model of the conditional lognormal distribution for zero-crossing wave period. The GEOSAT satellite data are utilized which presented by I. R. Young and G. J. Holland (1996, named as GEOSAT data). At first, qualities of this data are investigated, and statistical characteristic trends are studied by means of applying known probability distribution functions. The wave height data of GEOSAT are compared to the data observed onboard merchant ships, the data observed by measure instrument installed on the ocean-going container ship and so on. To execute a long-tenn prediction of ship response, joint probability functions between wave height and wave period are introduced, therefore long-term statistical predictions are executed by using the functions.

Autocorrelation Coefficient for Detecting the Frequency of Bio-Telemetry

  • A MATLAB program was developed to calculate the half-wavelength of a sine-curve baseband signal with white noise by using an autocorrelation function, a SG filter, and zero-crossing detection. The frequency of the input signal can be estimated from 1) the first zero-crossing (corresponding to ¼λ) and 2) the R value (the Y axis of the correlogram) at the center of the segment. Thereby, the frequency information of the preceding segment can be obtained. If the segment size were optimized, and a portion with a large zero-crossing dynamic range were obtained, the frequency discrimination ability would improve. Furthermore, if the values of the correlogram for each frequency prepared on the CPU side were prepared in a table, the volume of calculations can be reduced by 98%. As background, period detection by autocorrelation coefficients requires an integer multiple of 1/2λ (when using a sine wave as the object of the autocorrelation function), otherwise the correlogram drawn by R value will not exhibit orthogonality. Therefore, it has not been used in bio-telemetry where the frequencies move around.

New Year Wave의 통계적 특성에 대하여 (On the Statistical Characteristics of the New Year Wave)

  • In this paper time series wave data, which were measured at the Draupner platform in the North Sea on 1995, are used to investigate statistical characteristics of nonlinear wave. Various statistical properties based on time and frequency domain are examined. The Gram-Chalier distribution fits the probability of wave elevation better than the Gaussian distribution. The skewness of wave profile is 0.393 and the kurtosis is 4.037 when the freak wave is occurred. The nonlinearity of D1520 data is higher than two adjacent wave data. AI index of the New Year Wave is 2.11 and the wave height is 25.6m. The zero crossing wave period of the New Year Wave is 12.5s which is compared to the average zero up-crossing period 11.3s. The significant steepness of wave data is 0.077 when the freak wave was occurred. H1/3/${\eta}_s$ does not increases as the kurtosis increases and the values is close to 4. The New Year Wave belongs to highly nonlinear wave data packet but the AI index is within linear focusing range.

운방전에 의해 발생되는 자장의 계측과 통계적 분석 (Measurement and Statistical Analysis of Magnetic Fields Produced by Cloud Discharges)

  • In this work, to obtain the detailed information about lightning electromagnetic field waveforms, the LabVIEW based-measurement system of time-changing magnetic fields was designed and constructed. The frequency bandwidth of the magnetic field measuring system ranges from 300 [Hz] to 1 [MHz], and the response sensitivity is 2.78 [mV/nT]. Data acquisition system with the resolution of 12 bits and memory capacity of 32 [Mbyte] was triggered by the magnetic field to be measured. The properties and parameters of the magnetic fields produced by cloud discharges were statistically investigated. The magnetic field waveforms radiated from cloud lighting discharges tend to be bipolar, with two or more narrow and several pulses superimposed on the initial front part. The recording length of the magnetic field measurement system is about 10 [ms]. The mean duration of cloud discharges is 1.3 [ms], and the number of outburst pulses for the period is 8 in average. The front times of the magnetic fields are 6.15 [$\mu$s] in average. The the zero-to-zero crossing times that is the initial half-cycle duration is widely dispersed and the mean value is 9.61 [$\mu$s], and the mean value of percentage depth of dip to opposite polarity is 41.1 [$\%$].

  • The fatigue damages in structural details of offshore plants can be accumulated due to various environmental loadings such as swell, wave, wind and current. It is known that load histories acting on mooring and riser systems show stationary and ergodic bimodal wide-banded process. This paper provides refined approach to obtain time signals representing stress range histories from wide-banded bimodal spectrum which consists of ideally narrow-banded and fully separated two spectrums. Variations of the probabilistic characteristics for time signals according to frequency and sampling time increments are compared with the reference data to be the probabilistic characteristics such as zero-crossing period, peak period, and irregularity factor obtained from an assumed ideal spectrum. It is proved that the sampling time increment more affects on the probabilistic characteristics than frequency increment. The fatigue damages according to the frequency and sampling time increments are also compared with the ones with minimum increment condition which are thought to be exact fatigue damage. It is concluded that the maximum sampling time increment to obtain reliable time signals should be determined that ratio of applied maximum sampling time increment and minimum period is less than approximately 0.08.

  • This paper presents a design method of programmable low pass filter(PLPF) which reduce an estimation error of a zero crossing point(ZCP) for a high speed brushless DC(BLDC) motor drive. BLDC motor sensorless drive is possible by estimation of ZCP. The ZCP estimated by detecting a change of back-EMF polarity has the estimation error because noises exist on the measured back-EMF. Therefore a calculated commutation timing using the ZCP is inaccurate. And the inexact commutation timing leads to ripples of 3-phase current and degradation of drive performance. This paper proposes the design method of the PLPF to overcome these problems. First, a speed calculated a inaccurate period of the ZCP is analyzed in the frequency domain. Then, the PLPF that has varying cut-off frequency according to change of the speed is designed on the frequency analysis result. The proposed method is verified by the experiment.

연속음성인식을 위한 음성구간과 피치검출에 관한 연구 (A Study on Speech Period and Pitch Detection for Continuous Speech Recognition)

  • 본 논문은 연속음성인식을 위한 음성구간과 피치를 검출하는 알고리즘을 제안한다. 이것은 연속음성을 입력받아 프레임 단위로 자/모음을 구분하며, 구분된 유성음에서 피치를 검출하는 방법이다 실제 잡음 환경에서 음성을 입력받아 적당한 문턱치 에너지를 사용함으로써 잡음환경에서 강인한 음성구간 추출이 가능하였고 추출한 음성구간에서 프레임단위로 영교차율과 단구간에너지를 이용한 알고리즘으로 유성음의 피치를 검출함과 동시에 자/모음을 구분하는 개선된 방식이다.
