Deletion Polymorphism of UGT2B17 and Its Relation to Lung Cancer (UGT2B17 유전자의 deletion polymorphism과 폐암과의 연관성)

  • Glucuronidation is a major pathway for NNAL [4-(methylnitrosamno)-1-(3-pyridyl)-1-butanol] and UGT2B17 (UGT, uridine diphospho-glucuronosyltransferase) is from the UGT2B family that glucuronidates carcinogens. UGT2B17 deletion was associated with decreased levels of NNAL and with increased risk of some cancers. The UGT2B17 gene varies in copy number from zero to two per individual in humans. To examine whether UGT2B17 gene deletion is associated with the risk of lung cancer, we investigated copy number variants (CNV) in 271 cancer-free controls and 176 cases of lung cancer in Koreans by a PCR-based method. The frequency of the UGT2B17 deleted alleles was much higher than in other Caucasian and African-American groups which have already been reported. While only up to 10% of Caucasians have zero copies of the gene, up to 74% of Koreans in this study showed that both copies of the gene were deleted. Furthermore, the overall frequency of this dual deletion in female groups was higher than in male groups. However, there was no association between CNV in UGT2B17 and lung cancer. This result suggested that the UGT2B17 deletion allele was not associated with the susceptibility of lung cancers in the Korean group. However, this UGT2B17 CNV polymorphism may be a useful marker for evolutionary analysis among races.

  • The packet capturing becomes a bottleneck in the network intrusion detection and monitoring system as the network performance developing. Many approaches, zero copy, interrupt coalescing and NAPI which attempt to improve packet capturing performance of Linux, are inefficient. PF_RING is a new type of network socket that dramatically improves the packet capture speed, but not perfect. This paper proposes some solutions which can improve the memory utilization and save some data copy time based on the commodity network adapters rather than on the commercial network adapters.

  • One of the most important requirements for the Ethernet-based automobile is the reliability. In order to achieve this goal, we propose using the High-availability Seamless Redundancy (HSR) protocol (IEC 62439-3 clause 5) in these networks. The HSR protocol provides duplicated frame copies for each sent frame, which means that the destination node will receive at least one copy in case the second copy is lost due to a failure. In other words, there will be no network stoppage even if failure occurs. Moreover, the destination node will receive at least one frame copy with zero-recovery time (seamless) and it will not need to wait to receive the other copy if the first one is lost, which occurs it in the Ethernet standard, as a result of reconfiguration of the network paths. However, the main drawback of the HSR protocol is the unnecessary redundant traffic that is caused by the duplicated frames. Several solutions, including QR, VRing, RURT, and DVP, have already been proposed to improve the traffic performance of the HSR protocol. In this paper, we propose three automobile network topologies. each of which has pros and cons depending on the automobile requirements. Then we applied the HSR protocol with and without the QR and VRing approaches to each scenario. The comparison among these topologies depend on the traffic performance result for each of them. The QR and VRing approaches give a better traffic reduction percentage, ranging from 48% to 75% compared to the standard HSR protocol. Therefore they could limit the redundant traffic in automobile networks when the HSR protocol is used instead of the Ethernet network, which does not provide any seamless recovery if a failure occurs.

Novel ZCS-PFM Series Resonant High Frequency Inverter for Electromagnetic Induction Eddy Current-Heated Roller

  • This paper presents a novel prototype of zero current switching pulse frequency modulation (ZCS-PFM )high frequency series resonant inverter using IGBT power module for electromagnetic induction eddy current heated roller in copy and printing machines. The operating principle and unique features of this voltage-fed half bridge inverter with two additional soft commutation inductor snubber are presented including the transformer modeling of induction heated rolling drum. This soft switching inverter can achieve stable zero current soft commutation under a discontinuous and continuous resonant load current for a widely specified power regulation processing. The experimental results and computer-aided analysis of this inverter are discussed from a practical point of view.

  • This paper presents a voltage source type half-bridge series resonant high frequency (HF) inverter for induction heated fixing roller in copy machines. This high-frequency inverter works under zero current soft switching (ZCS) commutation and has wide power regulation range due to employing a pulse density modulation (PDM) scheme. Transient and steady state operating modes of the inverter are presented in this paper together with its PDM-based power regulation system. Experimental operating performances of the developed HF-ZCS inverter as well as power losses and actual efficiency are discussed and compared with computer simulation results.

The simple high-frequency inverter treated here can completely achieve stable zero current soft switching (ZCS) commutation forwide its output power regulation ranges and load variations under constant high frequency pulse density modulation (PDM) scheme. Its transient and steady state operatprinciple is originally described and discussed for a constant high-frequency PDM control strategy under a stable ZCS operation commutation, together with its output effective power regulation charactertics-based on the high frequency PDM strategy. The experimenoperating performances of this voltage source SEPP ZCS-PDM series resonant high frequency inverter using IGBTs are illustrated as compared with computer simulation results and experimenones. Its power losses analysis and actual efficiency are evaluated and discussed on the basis of simulation and experimental results. The feasible effectiveness of this high frequency inverter appliimplemented here is proved from the practical point of view.

  • Quantum-Inspired Evolutionary Algorithm(QEA) contains sufficient data-level parallelism to be naturally accelerated on GPUs. For an efficient reduction of execution time, however, careful task-mapping should be done to properly reflect the characteristics of CPU and GPU. Furthermore, when deciding which part of the application should run on GPU, we need to consider the data transfer between CPU and GPU memory spaces as well as the data-level parallelism. In addition, the usage of zero-copy host memory, proper choice of the execution configuration, and thread organization considering memory coalescing is important to further reduce the execution time. With all these techniques, we could run QEA 3.69 times faster on average in comparison with the multi-threading CPU for the case of 0-1 knapsack problem with 30,000 items.

Improvement of High-Availability Seamless Redundancy (HSR) Traffic Performance for Smart Grid Communications

  • High-availability seamless redundancy (HSR) is a redundancy protocol for Ethernet networks that provides two frame copies for each frame sent. Each copy will pass through separate physical paths, pursuing zero fault recovery time. This means that even in the case of a node or a link failure, there is no stoppage of network operations whatsoever. HSR is a potential candidate for the communications of a smart grid, but its main drawback is the unnecessary traffic created due to the duplicated copies of each sent frame, which are generated and circulated inside the network. This downside will degrade network performance and might cause network congestion or even stoppage. In this paper, we present two approaches to solve the above-mentioned problem. The first approach is called quick removing (QR), and is suited to ring or connected ring topologies. The idea is to remove the duplicated frame copies from the network when all the nodes have received one copy of the sent frame and begin to receive the second copy. Therefore, the forwarding of those frame copies until they reach the source node, as occurs in standard HSR, is not needed in QR. Our example shows a traffic reduction of 37.5%compared to the standard HSR protocol. The second approach is called the virtual ring (VRing), which divides any closed-loop HSR network into several VRings. Each VRing will circulate the traffic of a corresponding group of nodes within it. Therefore, the traffic in that group will not affect any of the other network links or nodes, which results in an enhancement of traffic performance. For our sample network, the VRing approach shows a network traffic reduction in the range of 67.7 to 48.4%in a healthy network case and 89.7 to 44.8%in a faulty network case, compared to standard HSR.

Key Efficiency Evaluation of Blockchain Based Cloud Proxy Server (블록체인 기반 클라우드 프락시 서버의 키 효율성 연구)

  • Blockchains are not efficient for real-time processing because the growing number of transactions and users delays many computations and network communications. This study proposes a cloud proxy server, so that legitimate users can use blockchain as well as reduce network latency. To proceed with a blockchain transaction, the blockchain copy server verifies all transaction-related data, but the cloud proxy server verifies legitimate users with a simple zero-knowledge proof algorithm, enabling efficient blockchain real-time processing. The cloud proxy server can support blockchain anonymity, security, and scalability that can verify legitimate users with the proposed zero-knowledge proof by receiving the registered key pair of the blockchain user. In the proposed research analysis, blockchain-based cloud proxy server reduces network latency compared to previous studies and key processing on cloud proxy servers reduces the cost of key computation compared to previous studies.
