A precision linear motion table plays a crucial role in manufacturing systems used in various industries such as machine tools, semiconductors, and nanofabrication. In particular, one of the most typical mechanisms for a linear motion table is to use a ballscrew and LM guides. However, this mechanism is inevitably influenced by friction because of the relative motion in its joint regions. One of the most complex phenomena in friction is the hysteresis behavior of dynamic friction, which was compared with the steady dynamic friction that was presented using a Stribeck curve in this study. Therefore, we investigated the dynamic friction and its hysteresis behavior using a miniaturized linear table equipped with a ballscrew and LM guides that were lubricated with grease. Subsequently, it could be seen that hysteresis could be considered a time delay after zero-velocity crossing and that it was influenced by acceleration.

Recently, DC systems are considered as efficient electric power systems for renewable energy based clean power generators. This discloses several critical issues that are required to be considered before the installation of the DC systems. First of all, voltage/current switching stress, which is aggravated by large fault current, might damage DC circuit breakers. This problem can be simply solved by applying a superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) as proposed in this study. It allows a simple use of insulated-gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs) as a DC circuit breaker. To evaluate the proposed resistive type SFCL application to the DC circuit breaker, a DC distribution system is composed of the practical line impedances from the real distribution system in Do-gok area, Korea. Also, to reflect the distributed generation (DG) effects, several DC-to-DC converters are applied. The locations and sizes of the DGs are optimally selected according to the results of previous studies on DG optimization. The performance of the resistive type SFCL applied DC circuit breaker is verified by a time-domain simulation based case study using the power systems computer aided design/electromagnetic transients including DC (PSCAD/ EMTDC(R)).

In this paper, a motion control system based on 2-axis gimbal system is designed and implemented to drive a high speed and precision. The proposed system consists of the RS-422 interface, 2-axis gimbal platform, servo control unit integrated with a high speed DSP chip-set, servo amplifier unit, potentiometer sensor unit, and resolver sensor unit. The servo control unit using the high speed DSP firmware is designed to get a fast response without an overshoot with step input and a RMS error of low probability with ramp input. The servo amplifier unit using a voltage control is designed to resolve the zero-crossing distortion for precise motion. To verify the performance and stability of the implemented system, experiments are performed through a measurement of the time and frequency domain response in a laboratory environment by using a PXI(PCI eXtentions for Instrumentation).
In this paper, we proposed quad variable rates ADPCM coding method and its implementation on C6000 DSP, which is modified from the standard ADPCM of ITU G.726 for speech quality improvement considering the environmental noise Four coding rates, 16Kbps, 24Kbps, 32Kbps and 40Kbps are used for speech window samples and the rate decision threshold is decided by the environmental noise level. The object of the proposed method is to reduce the coding rate while retaining the speech quality and the speech quality is considerably close to 40Kbps single rate coder with the coding rate close to 16Kbps single rate coder under the environmental noise. The environmental noise level affects the coding rate and the noise level is calculated per every speech window samples. At high noise level, more samples are coded at higher rates to enhance the quality, but at low noise level, only the big speech signals are coded at higher rates and more speech samples are coded at lower coding rates to reduce the coding rates. The influence of the noise on tile speech signal is considerably high for small signals and the small signal has the higher ZCR (zero crossing rate). The method is simulated in PC and to be implemented on C6000 floating point DSP board in real time operations.
This study is concerned with a method which helps human to generate EMG signals accurately and consistently to make reliable design samples of function discriminator for prosthetic arm control. We intend to ensure a signal accuracy and consistency by training human as a signal generation source. For the purposes, we construct a human training system using a digital computer, which generates visual graphes to compare real target motion trajectory with the desired one, to observe EMG signals and their features. To evaluate the effect which affects a feature variance and a feature separability between motion classes by the human training system, we select 4 features such as integral absolute value, zero crossing counts, AR coefficients and LPC cepstrum coefficients. We perform a experiment four times during 2 months. The experimental results show that the hu- man training system is effective for accurate and consistent EMG signal generation and reduction of a feature variance, but is not correlated for a feature separability, The cepstrum coefficient is the most preferable among the used features for reduction of variance, class separability and robustness to a time varing property of EMG signals.
The researches of the emotions are currently great interest in speech processing as well as in human-machine interaction domain. In the recent years, more and more of researches relating to emotion synthesis or emotion recognition are developed for the different purposes. Each approach uses its methods and its various parameters measured on the speech signal. In this paper, we proposed using a short-time parameter: MFCC coefficients (MelFrequency Cepstrum Coefficients) and a simple but efficient classifying method: Vector Quantification (VQ) for speaker-dependent emotion recognition. Many other features: energy, pitch, zero crossing, phonetic rate, LPC... and their derivatives are also tested and combined with MFCC coefficients in order to find the best combination. The other models: GMM and HMM (Discrete and Continuous Hidden Markov Model) are studied as well in the hope that the usage of continuous distribution and the temporal behaviour of this set of features will improve the quality of emotion recognition. The maximum accuracy recognizing five different emotions exceeds $88\%$ by using only MFCC coefficients with VQ model. This is a simple but efficient approach, the result is even much better than those obtained with the same database in human evaluation by listening and judging without returning permission nor comparison between sentences [8]; And this result is positively comparable with the other approaches.

In the basic GMSK, the modulated signals are generated by the preprocessing of NRZ pulse trains with the gaussian low pass filter. In this paper, we proposed the GMSK modulation system with the delta pulse trains. The proposed system constructed with the gaussian pulse generator triggered by the bipolar delta pulse, the differentiator between $+T_b/2$ and $-T_b/2$, and then a matched filter for frequency-modulation function. The spectrum of proposed system was found to be smaller than about 35[%] at 40[dB] attenuated bandwidth, and the center spectrum to be lower than the basic GMSK with zero-crossing property.

Experimental study on the three-dimensional topology of hairpin packet structures in turbulent boundary layers were carried out. Two different Reynolds number based on momentum thickness, Re$\sub$$\theta$/=514 and 934 were generated in a blowing type wind tunnel under the condition of zero pressure gradient. Simultaneous measurements of velocity fields at a wall-normal plane and wall-parallel plane by a plane PIV and a Stereo-PIV systems. The two Nd:Yag laser systems and three CCD cameras were synchronized to obtain instantaneous velocity fields at the same time. To avoid optical noise at the crossing line by the two laser light sheets, a new optical arrangement using polarization was applied. The obtained velocity fields show the existence of hairpin packet structure vividly and the idealized hairpin vortex signature is confirmed by experiment. Two counter-rotating vortex pair which reflects the cutting plane of hairpin legs are found both side of a strong streaky structure when the wall-normal plane cuts the hairpin head.

As the zero interest rate era was over with the end of quantitative easing, the economy of several global markets observed the fluctuations of the base interest rate. Interest rate, which is the change of money value with respect to time, is negatively correlated with construction investment. Considering the characteristics of interest rates and construction investment as economic variables, the necessity of cross-border analysis between base interest rate and construction investment was suggested in this paper. Cross-correlation analysis between base interest rates and construction investment crossing the border was performed. The effective correlations were confirmed with values varying by countries. Similar characteristics were also observed among countries with similar economy, which were then divided into three groups. Additionally, identifying the base interest rate that affects the construction investment of a particular country was made possible by reflecting a self-cycle of base interest rates. Lastly, from the result of examining the influence of each rise and fall of the interest rate, it was verified that the difference was more than twice as large in some countries. These results are expected to contribute to construction-related policy makers or investors to make decisions in response to the economic status of the construction market.

The CTD(Cumulative Trauma Disorder) as a new kind of occupational disease occurs mainly to workers on handling line under the highly-specialized industrial environments. This study took into account their exposure to Cumulative Trauma Disorders(CTD) by the utilization of EMG system, with respect to worker's muscle fatigue test according to fulfillment of iterative and simple task. The findings of this study were as follows : From the result of AEMG test analysis, worker's fatigue extent according to elapsed time of task was inclined to be increased continually. On the other hand, after its task ending, their fatigue extent was inclined to be decreased than before-circumstance of refractory brick lifting. The transference of MF(Median Frequency) and MPF(Mean Power Frequency) had highly significant difference between muscle fatigue and the elapsed time of work. Especially, their fatigue extent to erectorspinae and multifidus to lift firebrick was increased in the mean time. The transference of ZCR(Zero Crossing Rate) had considerable significant difference between muscle fatigue and the elapsed time of work. In short, as the work went of the muscle fatigue extent increased gradually. Thus, it can be concluded that the fatigue of erectorspinae and multifidus extent according to fulfillment of iterative and simple task is gradually being increased.
