시공간 신경회로망을 이용한 연속 숫자음 인식 (Continuous digits recognition using spatio-temporal neural network)

  • In this paper, a new approach for continuous digits recognition using the Spatio-Temporal Neural Network (STNN) is reported. The continuous seven digits are gargeted to recognize, and our initial recognition rate was 28%. In this paper, to increase the recognition rate, two methods are proposed. In the first method, to compensated the STNN's own defect as well as to emphasize the Korean digits' phonic characteristics, the starting point ofeach digit is detected using the energy and zero-crossing rate, but the ending point is detectedonly using the energy value. In this case, the seven digits recognition reate increased to 61%. Furthermore, in the second method, considering the fact that a same digit could be pronounced differently in continuously spoken environment, the number of STNNs used to represent each digit is increased from one to five. Consequently, the same digit but pronounced differently could be handled well in the new system. As a result of that, the continuously spoken seven digits recognition rate increased to 89%.

A Study on the Adjusting Output Energy of the $CO_2$ Laser Controlled Directly in AC Power Line

  • We demonstrate a simple $CO_2$ laser by controlling firing angle of a TRIAC switch in ac power line. The power supply for our laser system switches the voltage of the AC power line (60Hz) directly. The power supply does not need elements such as a rectifier bridge, energy-storage capacitors, or a current-limiting resistor in the discharge circuit. In order to control the laser output power, the pulse repetition rate is adjusted up to 60Hz and the firing angle of TRIAC gate is varied from $45^{circ}$ to $135^{circ}$. A ZCS(Zero Crossing Switch) circuit and a PIC one-chip microprocessor are used to control the gate signal of the TRIAC precisely. The maximum laser output of 40W is obtained at a total pressure of 18 Torr, a pulse repetition rate of 60Hz, and a TRAIC gate firing angle of $90^{circ}$.

  • A typical method to control the single-phase power converter system is to utilize the zero-crossing PLL. However, this method is vulnerable to the voltage disturbance and affects the performance of controller. This paper proposes a new single-phase PLL system that is composed of the adaptive linear combiner and the PI control. The operational principle was analyzed through theoretical approach and the performance was verified through simulations with MATLAB. The proposed PLL system shows rapidness and robustness in control under the voltage disturbances such as the sag, harmonics, and phase jump.

  • The breaking of a circuit in DC grid could pose a challenge because of the absence of zero-crossing instant for both current and voltage when a fault occurs. An additional fault current limiting function will be very helpful for reducing the burden of the DC circuit breaker by limiting the fault current to a reasonable value. In this paper, we studied the overcurrent characteristics of several HTS conductors so that we could use the selected conductors for the basic design work of a resistive type fault current limiting module as a part of the circuit breaking system. According to the short-circuit test results, we suggested and compared two different basic design parameters of the HTS fault current limiting module, which will be connected in series to the DC circuit breaker.

신국부 적응 에지 연산자에 관한 연구 (A Study on a New Locally Adaptive Edge Operator)

  • This paper presents a new two-stage edge detection algorithm which can give thin edges and can find edges between low contrast regions. In the first stage, the potential edge points are obtained using the proposed edge operator which is motivated by the concept of the E filter. And in the second stage, the real edge points adre detected by comparing the potential edge values with the lically adaptive threshold values of the corresponding potential edge points and by testing whether the potential edge points are zero-crossing points or not. It is shown quantitatively that the proposed algorithm can find edges effectively in an image with impulse noise, and also the results of applying the proposed algorithm to real images are presented.

  • In this paper, a new stereo matching algorithm is proposed which uses th econstrainted optimization technique and the matching measures between the segments extracted from zero-crossing edges. The initial matching measures and average disparities are calculated by the features of segments on the searching window of the left and right images. The matching measure is calculated by applying an exponential function using the differences of slope, overlapped length and intensity. The coherency constraint is that neighbouring image points corresponding to the same object should have nearly the same disparities. The matching measures are iteratively updated by applying the coherency constraint. Simulation results on various images show that the proposed algorithm more acculately extracts the segment disparity.

  • This paper describes procedures to implement a real-time pitch analyzer using Matlab. Matlab is a multi-purpose signal-processing tool. Using this tool real-time analysis tool is implemented. To make it real-time we used data acquisition toolbox which comes with Matlab. Autocorrelation method was used as a basic algorithm. The resulting pitch informations are displayed in two different forms, i.e. instantaneous pitch plot and pitch track. V/UV decision is performed using zero crossing rate and energy Informations based on 500 utterances.

ORBITAL ENERGY DURING THE EVOLUTION OF THE ORBITAL DYNAMICS OF ASTEROID 4179 TOUTATIS

  • In our previous work, we investigated the orbital dynamics of Asteroid 1934 CT (or 1989 AC or 4179 Toutatis) from epoch 2012-Jul-24 (JDE2456132.5) using the Mercury program package. Asteroid 4179 Toutatis has an Earth and Mars crossing orbit with semimajor axis a = 2.5292 AU and eccentricity e = 0.6294, and therefore the perihelion distance is q = 0.9373 AU and the aphelion distance is Q = 4.1211 AU. After more than 300,000 years, asteroid 4179 Toutatis will escape from the Solar System, but during this time, it will have close-encounters with other planets from Venus to Uranus. As a continuation of this project, we investigated its energy changes in each close encounter. We also determine the energy of this asteroid when it escapes from the Solar System. The result is that during its orbital evolution, the energy of this asteroid changes and gives us negative, zero and positive values.

The overall motion sickness incidence applied to catamarans

  • The Overall Motion Sickness Incidence is applied to the hull form optimization of a wave piercing high-speed catamaran vessel. Parametric hull modelling is applied to generate two families of derived hull forms, the former varying the prismatic coefficient and the position of longitudinal centre of buoyancy, the latter instead the demi-hull separation. Several heading angles are analysed in a seaway, considering all combinations of significant wave height and zero-crossing period under two operating scenarios. The optimum hull is generated and vertical accelerations at some critical points on main deck are compared with the parent ones. Finally a comparative analysis with the results obtained for a similarly sized monohull passenger ship is carried out, in order to quantify, by the OMSI, the relative goodness in terms of wellness onboard of monohulls and catamarans, as a function of sea states and operating scenarios.

HMM기반 소음분석에 의한 엔진고장 진단기법 (Engine Fault Diagnosis Using Sound Source Analysis Based on Hidden Markov Model)

  • The Most Serious Engine Faults Are Those That Occur Within The Engine. Traditional Engine Fault Diagnosis Is Highly Dependent On The Engineer'S Technical Skills And Has A High Failure Rate. Neural Networks And Support Vector Machine Were Proposed For Use In A Diagnosis Model. In This Paper, Noisy Sound From Faulty Engines Was Represented By The Mel Frequency Cepstrum Coefficients, Zero Crossing Rate, Mean Square And Fundamental Frequency Features, Are Used In The Hidden Markov Model For Diagnosis. Our Experimental Results Indicate That The Proposed Method Performs The Diagnosis With A High Accuracy Rate Of About 98% For All Eight Fault Types.
