  • The application of Sliding Mode Control for inproving the dynamic response of a Multi-Phase-Bipolar (MPB) Brushless DC motor based position Brushless DC motor system is presented. Sliding Mode Control gives fast dynamic response with no overshoot and zero steady state error. It has the important feature of bins highly robust. A design procedure is outlined for the Sliding Mode Controller for a MPB Brushless DC motor. Digital computer simulation of the overall position control system is carried out using a time domain model in the d-q reference frame.

  • This paper presents the application of adaptive phase-locked loop (adaptive PLL) technique to control the process variable of the process control system. The adaptive algorithm is related to the error. When the error of the system is changed, the adaptive gain will be directly changed according to the error. If the value of the adaptive gain is large, the value of the error will be large. In this experiment, the reference input is 50% step input. The experimental result in controlling the first order lag process by the adaptive PLL shows that the response of the controlled system has no overshoot, short rise time, and zero steady-state error. The experimental result also shows that when the output disturbance enters to the process control system, the adaptive PLL can maintain the stability of the system and the effect of the output disturbance can also be fast rejected. The adaptive PLL has better performance ...

  • Track jump control is a random access strategy for short distance movement. The most common track jump scheme is a bang-bang control of a kick and brake manner. In a conventional track jump scheme, a track-following compensator is turned off during kick and brake periods, and restarted at a target track for track pull-in. The inevitable controller switching with non-zero initial condition results in undesirable transient response, and excessive overshoot in the transient response causes track pull-in failure. In this paper, a new track jump scheme is proposed for enhancing track jump stability. Instead of control switching, internal states of a track-following controller are artificially manipulated for kick and brake actions in a digital control environment. Experimental results are provided in comparison with conventional track jumps.

  • This paper proposes an autopilot system using a fuzzy PID controller to satisfy performances required for the automatic navigation of ships under various marine circumstances. The existing autopilot system using a PD type controller has difficulties in eliminating a steady-state error and compensating nonlinear characteristics of ships. The autopilot system using the proposed fuzzy PID controller has a self-tuning ability, an ability to compensate nonlinear characteristics, and an ability to turn at constant angular velocity. Therefore. it can naturally make a steady-state error zero, compensate nonlinear dynamic effect of ships, have an adaptability to parameter variation owing to shallow water effect, and have an ability to turn ship's course rapidly without overshoot through procedures of acceleration, constant, and deceleration of angular velocity for large course-changing.

  • A passive energy recovery snubber for high-power-factor boost rectifier, in which the main switch is described in terms of the equivalent circuits that are operational during turn-on and turn-off sequences. These equivalent circuits are analyzed so that the overshoot voltage across the main switch, the snubber current, and the turn-off transition time can be predicted analytically. The main switch combined with proposed snubber can be turned on with zero current and turned off at limited voltage stress. The high-power-factor boost rectifier with proposed snubber is implemented, and the experimental results are presented to confirm the validity of proposed snubber.

  • This paper describes the PWM-VSI controller of three-phase UPS system using stationary reference frame. This controller meets the specification the UPS inverter output voltage even under the unbalanced or nonlinear load. This controller is also constructed with duble control loop of the outer voltage control loop and the inner current control loop. For the fast response of the output voltage control, yhr inner current control loop of the capacitor current os used. To get the good property against overshoot, the If controller us used. The outer voltage controller is designed with P controller and the high gain transfer function is used for the zero steady state error. All control gains of both controller is designed base on the CDM method.

  • A DSP-based self-adaptive proportional-integral (PI) controller to control a DC-DC converter is proposed in this paper. The full-bridge topology is adopted here to obtain higher power output capability and higher conversion efficiency. The converter adopts the zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) technique to reduce the conduction losses. A parallel secondary active clamp circuit is added to deal with the voltage overshoot and ringing effect on the transformer's secondary side. A self-adaptive PI controller is proposed to replace the traditional PI controller. Moreover, the designed converter adopts the constant-current and constant-voltage (CC-CV) output control strategy. The secondary active clamp mechanism is discussed in detail. The effectiveness of the proposed converter was experimentally verified by an IGBT-based 10kW prototype.

  • A buck-boost zero current switched(ZCS) series resonant AC to DC converter for the DC output voltage regulation together with high power factor is proposed. A dynamic model for this AC to DC converter is developed and an analysis for the internal operational characteristics is explored. With the proposed control technique, the unity power factor and the DC output voltage regulation without a current overshoot can be obtained.

  • An improved predictive current control technique for a zero current switched(ZCS) buck-boost series resonant inverter(SRI) is proposed to overcome the inherent disadvantages such as the uncontrollable large overshoot and the large current ripple. Using the proposed technique, four quadrant operations of the output voltage and current for an uninterrutible power supply(URS) application are guaranteed and the buck-boost operation can also be obtained without an additional bidirectional switch.

  • A variety of high voltage DC power supplies employing the high frequency inverter are difficult to achieve soft switching considering a quick response and no overshoot response under the wide load variation ranges which are used in medical-use x-ray high voltage generator from 20kV to 150kV in the output voltage and from 0.5mA to 1250mA, respectively. The authors develops soft switching high voltage DC power supply designed for x-ray power generator applications, which uses series resonant inverter circuit topology with a multistage voltage multiplier instead of a conventional high voltage diode rectifier connected to the second-side of a high-voltage transformer with a large turn ratio. A constant on-time dual mode frequency control scheme operating under a principle of zero-current soft switching commutation is described. Introducing the multistage voltage multiplier, the secondary transformer turn-numbers and stray capacitance of high-voltage transformer is effective to be greatly reduced. It is proved that the proposed high-voltage converter topology with dual mode frequency modulation mode control scheme is able to be the transient response and steady-state performance in high-voltage x-ray tube load. The effectiveness of this high voltage converter is evaluated and discussed on the basis of simulation analysis and observed data in experiment.
