  • In this study, ZIF67/rGO was used to minimize the battery life degradation due to the insulating properties of sulfur and the elution of lithium polysulfide. ZIF67 wrapped in rGO creates more space within the carbon sponge and can hold a large amount of sulfur. The sulfur@ZIF67/rGO composite was synthesized and prepared as a sponge to enhance the sulfur retention capacity. The result showed a high initial capacity, with a value of about 1093 mAh g-1 and a capacity retention rate of 84% after 100 cycles. The high interaction with sulfur through the complexation of cobalt and carbon confirmed that ZIF67/rGO exhibits high performance as a carrier for sulfur, the anode active material of lithium-sulfur batteries, and the high initial capacity and improved capacity retention rate were confirmed.

  • Two-dimensional (2D) metal organic framework (MOF) nanosheets (NSs) have recently gained considerable interest owing to their structural advantages, such as large surface area and exposed active sites. Two different types of 2D MOF NSs have been reported, including inherently layered MOFs and non-layered ones. Although several studies on inherently layered 2D MOFs have been reported, non-layered 2D MOFs have been rarely studied. This may be because the non-layered MOFs have a strong preference to form three-dimensionality intrinsically. Furthermore, the non-layered MOFs are typically synthesized in the presence of the surfactant or modulator, and thus developing facile and clean synthetic routes is highly pursued. In this study, a facile and clean synthetic methodology to grow non-layered 2D cobalt-based zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF-67) NSs is suggested, without using any surfactant and modulator at room temperature. This is achieved by directly converting ultrathin α-Co(OH)2 layered hydroxide salt (LHS) NSs into non-layered 2D ZIF-67 NSs. The comprehensive characterizations were conducted to elucidate the conversion mechanism, structural information, thermal stability, and chemical composition of the non-layered 2D ZIF-67. This facile and clean approach could produce a variety of non-layered 2D MOF NS families to extend potential applications of MOF materials.

  • High purity propylene (propene) is an octane-enhancing chemical and also feedstock to industrially important chemicals. Purification of propylene from propane mixture is technologically and financially challenging because of their close boiling points. ZIF-8 membrane has been increasingly researched due to its great potential to separate propylene from propane effectively by molecular sieving. The increasing interest in ZIF-8 membranes lies in the so called "gate opening" effect. The gate opening effect enlarges the membrane pores and preferentially allows propylene to permeate through the membrane pores, while retaining the larger and heavier propane molecules in the feed stream in order to effect high propylene separation from propylene/propane mixture. In this paper, the widely accepted methods of ZIF-8 membrane preparation and parameters affecting propylene permeation and selectivity in ZIF-8 membrane are identified and reviewed.

  • Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are widely used in various fields because they make it easy to control porous structures according to combinations of metal ions and organic linkers. In addition, ZIF (zeolitic imidazolate framework), a type of MOF, is made up of transition metal ions such as Co2+ or Zn2+ and linkers such as imidazole or imidazole derivatives. ZIF-67, composed of Co2+ and 2-methyl imidazole, exhibits both chemical stability and catalytic activity. Recently, due to increasing need for energy technology and carbon-neutral policies, catalysis applications have attracted tremendous research attention. Moreover, demand is increasing for material development in the electrocatalytic water splitting and metal-air battery fields; there is also a need for bifunctional catalysts capable of both oxidation/reduction reactions. This review summarizes recent progress of bifunctional catalysts for electrocatalytic water splitting and metal-air batteries using ZIF-67. In particular, the field is classified into areas of thermal decomposition, introduction of heterogeneous elements, and complex formation with carbon-based materials or polyacrylonitrile. This review also focuses on synthetic methods and performance evaluation.

  • Lithium ion batteries (LIBs) is a kind of rechargeable secondary battery, developed from lithium battery, lithium ions move between the positive and negative electrodes to realize the charging and discharging of external circuits. Zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs) are porous crystalline materials in which organic imidazole esters are cross-linked to transition metals to form a framework structure. In this article, ZIF-67 is used as a sacrificial template to prepare nano porous carbon (NPC) coated cobalt nanoparticles. The final product Co/NPC composites with complete structure, regular morphology and uniform size were obtained by this method. The conductive network of cobalt and nitrogen doped carbon can shorten the lithium ion transport path and present high conductivity. In addition, amorphous carbon has more pores that can be fully in contact with the electrolyte during charging and discharging. At the same time, it also reduces the volume expansion during the cycle and slows down the rate of capacity attenuation caused by structure collapse. Co/NPC composites first discharge specific capacity up to 3115 mA h/g, under the current density of 200 mA/g, circular 200 reversible capacity as high as 751.1 mA h/g, and the excellent rate and resistance performance. The experimental results show that the Co/NPC composite material improves the electrical conductivity and electrochemical properties of the electrode. The cobalt based ZIF-67 as the precursor has opened the way for the design of highly performance electrodes for energy storage and electrochemical catalysis.

  • High-performance mixed-matrix membranes that comprise both zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) and graphene oxide (GO) were synthesized with a solution casting technique to realize excellent $CO_2/CH_4$ separation. The incorporation of ZIF-8 nanocrystals alone in ODPA-TMPDA polyimide can be used to significantly enhance $CO_2$ permeability compared with that of pure ODPA-TMPDA. Meanwhile, the addition of a GO nanostack alone in ODPA-TMPDA contributes to improved $CO_2/CH_4$ selectivity. Hence, a composite membrane that contains both fillers displays significant enhancements in $CO_2$ permeability (up to 60%) and $CO_2/CH_4$ selectivity (up to 28%) compared with those of pure polymeric membrane. Furthermore, in contrast to the ZIF-8 mixed-matrix membrane, which showed decreased mechanical stability, it was found that the incorporation of GO could improve the mechanical strength of mixed-matrix membranes. Overall, the synergistic effects of the use of both fillers together are successfully demonstrated in this paper. Such significant improvements in the mixed-matrix membrane's $CO_2/CH_4$ separation performance and mechanical strength suggest a feasible and effective approach for potential biogas upgrading and natural gas purification.

  • $\underline{Purpose}$: To analyze the recent citation trend and to find a way to improve impact factor (IF) of the Journal of Korean Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (JKSTRO) by analysis of Korean Medical Citation Index (KoMCI) citation data of JKSTRO and comparison with that of mean citation data of all journals enlisted on KoMCI (KoMCI journals) during 2000-2005. $\underline{Materials\;and\;Methods}$: All citation data of entire journals enlisted on KoMCI and JKSTRO from 2000 to 2005 were obtained from KoMCI. The trend of total and annual number of published articles and reference citations, total citations and self-citations per paper, IF and impact factor excluding self-citations (ZIF) were described and compared on both KoMCI journals and JKSTRO. $\underline{Results}$: Annual number of published articles was decreased for 6 years on both KoMCI journals and JKSTRO (32% and 38% reduction rate). The number of Korean journal references per article is 1.6 papers on JKSTRO comparing to 2.0 papers on KoMCI journals. The percentage of Korean references/total references increased from 5.0% in 2000 to 7.7% in 2005 on JKSTRO and from 8.5% in 2000 to 10.1% on KoMCI journals. The number of total citations received/paper on JKSTRO (average 1.333) is smaller than that of KoMCI journals (average 1.694), there was an increased rate of 67% in 2005 comparing to 2000. The percentage of self-citations/total citations (average 72%) on JKSTRO is slightly higher than that of KoMCI journals (average 61%). IF of JKSTRO was gradually improved and 0.144, 0.125, 0.088, 0.107, 0.187, and 0.203 in 2000-2005 respectively. However, ZIF of JKSTRO is steadily decreased from 0.038 in 2000 to 0.013 in 2005 except 0.044 in 2004. $\underline{Conclusion}$: IF of JKSTRO was slightly improved but had some innate problem of smaller number of citations received. To make JKSTRO as a highly cited journal, the awareness of academic status of JKSTRO and active participation of every member of JKSTRO including encouraging self-citations of papers published recent 2 years and submission of English written papers, and active academic cooperation with related academic societies.
