  • It is known that the development of medical science is influenced by various social environmental factors. Historically, Chinese Medicine developed the most during the Song Yuan dynasty, and the reason for this was known to be due to socio-political factors. According to recent studies, however, this period also had severe changes in climate and environment. Therefore, this study was conducted under the premise that this change in climate and environment influenced medical development. When looking at the coldness of the 11th~12th century and data indicating warming before and after this period, the Song Yuan dynasty went through drastic periods of climate change. Therefore, diseases related to heat such as bubonic plague, measles, and malaria were common. Furthermore, due to occasional wars during the Song Yuan dynasty, social unrest was aggravated and infectious diseases spread due to land development and environmental pollution. As the health of people were threatened due to these factors, the printing and distribution of medical text were encouraged, and during this process, the great 4 doctors of Jin-Yuan appeared. The reason why they studied cures for infectious diseases due to heat was related to climatic environment change. The development in medical science is closely related to socio-political factors, however the change in climatic environments are inevitably related to disease emergence as well. Therefore, it should always be taken into consideration as an important factor that promotes development in medical science.

  • Rice blast caused by the filamentous fungus Magnaporthe oryzae, is arguably the most devastating rice disease worldwide. Development of a high-throughput and reliable field blast resistance evaluation system is essential for resistant germplasm screening, resistance genes identification and resistant varieties breeding. However, the occurrence of rice blast in paddy field is easily affected by various factors, particularly lack of sufficient inoculum, which always leads to the non-uniform occurrence and reduced disease severity. Here, we described a procedure for adequately inducing the occurrence of rice seedling blast in paddy field, which involves pretreatment of diseased straw, initiation of seedling blast for the first batch of spreader population, inducing the occurrence of the second batch of spreader population and test materials. This procedure enables uniform and consistent infection, which facilitates efficient and accurate assessment of seedling blast resistance for diverse rice materials.

  • Objective : The concept of Eum-Fire(陰火), which was brought up by Li Dong-yuan(李東垣), is such a very ambiguous thing that many medical scholars had tried to understand its real meaning. Trying to understand the real concept of Eum-Fire, this study goes on based on the view that the concept of Eum-Fire in the medical books of Li Dong-yuan was used as being the same thing with the concept of Xim-Fire(心火) and Premier-Fire (相火), and the substance of this kind of fire is the fire in Ximpo(心包) and Myungmun (命門) which works in the system of Ximgye(心系). To verify this view is the main objective of this study. Method : Inquiring into Li Dong-yuan's medical books, this study investigated examples of the uses of the terms of Eum-Fire, Xim-Fire and Premier-Fire, and analyzed the relation between the meanings of these terms. And as a collateral evidence to the main view of this study, this study notes Wang An-dao(王安道)'s reference about Eum-Fire and inquires into the concept of Premier-Fire that was formed by Liu He-jian(劉河間), who had been referred to in Wang An-dao's argument about Eum-Fire. And this study also presents the Chen Shi-duo(陳士鐸)'s view about Eum-Fire that is expected to show a more concrete concept of Eum-Fire than now and seems to deserve to be compared with that of Li Dong-yuan. Result and Conclusion : It could be understood that the concept of Eum-Fire in Li Dong-yuan's books was used as a thing that owns the same substance as a kind of fire with Xim-Fire and Premier-Fire. In this viewpoint it could also be understood that Li Dong-yuan had attached the concepts like Xim-Fire and Eum-Fire to the concept of Premier-Fire, so terms like these could be understood as such concepts that represented the diverse figures of Premier-Fire. And this study also found that the substance of Xim-Fire as a kind of Premier-Fire means the fire of Ximpo and Myungmun that works in the system of Ximgye, which seems to be formerly introduced as a frame of Premier-Fire by Liu He-jian. This study also found the indirect basis of this viewpoint in the books of Chen Shi-duo, and could get a conclusion that Chen Shi-duo's view about Eum-Fire can be regarded as a thing that could show us more concrete matter of Eum-Fire than now.

  • Since the financial crisis of 2008, the People's Republic of China has aggressively been pursuing the internationalization of the Chinese Yuan or Renminbi. In this regard, rapidly increasing use of the Chinese Yuan in the onshore and offshore markets are important milestones. This paper analyzes relationship between the onshore and offshore Chinese Yuan spot markets. Major findings of this paper are as follows : First, there is full feedback relationship between the Onshore and Offshore Chinese Yuan Markets. Second, the difference between the yuan's offshore exchange rate and the onshore was getting tight. Third, the offshore Yuan market affects on the onshore market based on the empirical tests.

  • An enrichment library of GATA-repeats from genomic DNA was constructed in this study to isolate and characterize microsatellite loci in Tsaiya duck (Anas platyrhynchos). Thirty-three microsatellite markers were developed and used to detect polymorphisms in 30 Tsaiya ducks. A total of 177 alleles were observed and all loci except APT022 were polymorphic. The number of alleles ranged from 2 to 9 with an average of 5.5 per microsatellite locus. The observed and expected heterozygosity of these polymorphic markers ranged from 0.07 to 0.93 with an average number of 0.60 and 0.10 to 0.86 with an average number of 0.61, respectively. Among the polymorphic markers, the observed heterozygosities of 23 loci were higher than 0.50 (69.70%). The polymorphism information content (PIC) in the 32 loci ranged from 0.09 to 0.83 with an average of 0.57. Seven of the 33 duck microsatellite loci had orthologs in the chicken genome, but only APT004 had a similar core repeat to chickens. These microsatellite markers will be useful in constructing a genetic linkage map for the duck and a comparative mapping with the chicken can also provide a valuable tool for studies related to biodiversity and population genetics in this duck species.

  • An analysis model for predicting the tip bearing capacity of drilled shafts in cohesionless soils is improved in this study. The evaluation is based on large amounts of drilled shaft load test data. Assessment on the analysis model reveals a greater variation in two coefficients, namely, the overburden bearing capacity factor ($N_q$) and the bearing capacity modifier for soil rigidity (${\zeta}_{qr}$). These factors are modified from the back analysis of drilled shaft load test results. Different effective shaft depths and interpreted capacities at various loading stages (i.e., low, middle, and high) are adopted for the back calculation. Results show that the modified bearing capacity coefficients maintain their basic relationship with soil effective friction angle ($\bar{\phi}$), in which the $N_q$ increases and ${\zeta}_{qr}$ decreases as $\bar{\phi}$ increases. The suggested effective shaft depth is limited to 15B (B = shaft diameter) for the evaluation of effective overburden pressure. Specific design recommendations for the tip bearing capacity analysis of drilled shafts in cohesionless soils are given for engineering practice.
