  • Objectives: To investigate the association of problematic Internet use with oral health behaviors and oral health status in a nationally representative sample of Korean adolescents. Methods: Data from the 2010 Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey (73238 Korean adolescents; mean age $15.06{\pm}1.75years$; age range, 12-18 years) were used. Problematic Internet use was measured using the Korean Internet Addiction Proneness Scale for Youth-Short Form. Self-report questionnaires were used to assess oral health behaviors and oral health status of adolescents. Results: Problematic Internet users were less likely to brush their teeth frequently [adjusted odds ratio (AOR)=0.59; 95% confidence interval (CI)=0.56-0.63] and at school after lunch (AOR=0.89; 95% CI=0.83-0.94) as well as more likely to perceive their oral health to be poorer (AOR=1.63, 95% CI=1.54-1.72) and experience oral symptoms (AOR=1.75, 95% CI=1.65-1.86) compared to usual Internet users. Conclusion: The study results indicate that problematic Internet use may adversely affect the oral health of Korean adolescents. Thus, oral health screening and Internet-based education are needed for adolescents experiencing problematic Internet use.

It suggests that we should design the systematic program for the youth in the transition to independency and perform constant support. It is necessary to select beneficiary on the consideration of the characteristics and situation of the disadvantaged youth. In addition, it is required to secure consistency of the program and enlarge the support period. • The Internet and digital devices have become an important part of life among the youth (age 17-24) of today. During the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia, Internet use in youth increased by 19.3%, with an average usage of 11.6 hours per day. Youths gain a lot of opportunities from the Internet, but, it also exposes them to various risks. Therefore, there is a need for measures to make the Internet a safe place for youth, in a balanced way that addresses opportunities alongside risks, through digital literacy. It is expected that through digital literacy, youths can take advantage of online opportunities, without being subjected to any dangers. This study aims to examine the relationship between the digital literacy, online opportunities, and online risks of young people, while at the same time examining the influence of digital literacy on those online risks and opportunities. This study employed the quantitative study approach (explanatory study). Cross-sectional surveys and structured questionnaires were used for data collection. The results showed that youth's (age 17-24) monthly expenses, age, and education levels were important factors for digital literacy and online opportunity; also, the digital literacy variable plays an important role and affects online risk and opportunity positively. Digital literacy has a greater influence on online opportunities than it has on online risks. As youths spend more time online, they become more digitally literate, which can enable them to benefit more from new technology. Unfortunately, those with greater digital literacy cannot find a way to avoid risks while seeking opportunities.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the longitudinal relationship between Korean youth's social withdrawal, depression and community sense mediated by achievement values. For this purpose, we analyzed three years of the longitudinal panel data (2011-2013) of the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey (KCYPS). Data were collected from 2,351 first year middle school students using the latent growth model using SPSS 18.0 and AMOS 22.0. The main analysis results were as follows. First, social withdrawal and depression decreased and community sense increased as time passed. These results supported the linear change model. Second, the initial status of social withdrawal and depression had effects on the initial status and change rates of community sense. Achievement values, the partial mediator, had a positive influence on initial community sense but had a negative influence on change rates of community sense. We discussed how to improve Korean youth's community sense based on these results.

  • Purpose: The purpose is to expand the role of local senior welfare centers as a place for intergenerational integration by analyzing the intergenerational awareness and satisfaction of participants in the intergenerational integration program. Research design, data and methodology: The empirical study conducted a survey on 205 participants (114 seniors, 91 teenagers) of the generation integration program being implemented at a senior welfare center located in Seoul. Results: Regarding the satisfaction of participants in the generation integration program, both the elderly and youth showed that the more contact they had between generations, the higher the satisfaction with participation. In the case of the elderly, the better the subjective health status, the older the respondent, and the lower the educational level, the higher the satisfaction, and the more frequently they met youth, the higher the satisfaction. On the other hand, the longer the youth participated in the program, the weaker their negative emotions toward the elderly, and the higher the degree of visits to grandparents, the higher their satisfaction with participation. Conclusions: The biggest determinant of satisfaction with the generational integration program at senior welfare centers is the intensity and frequency of contact between the elderly and youth generations.
