  • This study explores the creation and enjoyment of Kuwoonmong (九雲夢) using a reference system called the cultural imagination, which is related to the Yin-Yang (陰陽) and Wu Xing (五行). When Kim Manjung wrote Guwoonmong, he may have composed figures and events based on this imagination. In particular, when he designed the eight seonnyeo (팔선녀), he set the order such as Gap (甲), Eul (乙), Byeong (병), Jeong (丁), etc. and characterized them according to the celestial stem (天干). Thus it was easy to avoid overlapping of characters and to construct various stories and relationships between them. The table below shows the characters of Kuwoonmong corresponding to the celestial stem. In not only the individual person but also the narrative world, Kuwoonmon demonstrates Yin-Yang and Wu Xing's imagination. In this respect, Kuwoonmon can be considered a large symbol encompassing the abstract theory of Yin-Yang and Wu Xing. Of course, the writer, Kim, Manjung would not have tried to symbolize the principle intentionally. However, he was also present in the environment of the cultural imagination that has been formed over the years. The same is true for the contemporary recipients of Guwunmong. They would have had a pleasant experience applying the cultural imagination and strengthening their familiar world view and human view.

  • In the Nei Ching. the interrelation of Yin and Yang within the human body. based upon a perfect balance and a perfect mutual control. The affinity of Yin and Yang to each other was held to have a decisive influence upon man's health. Perfect harmony between the two primogenial elements meant health. Disharmony or undue preponderance of one element brought disease and death. The interrelation of Yin and Yang in the Nei Ching, had the organic view of the life. The world view of the harmony and balance in Nei Ching shows a unified world view that is symmetrical and in equibrilium in unity and conflict of opposite elements instead of combining with the closely related elements, namely, it is a fact that the life principle of the theory of Yin and Yang in Nei Ching is not the object of the killing and destroying for unity and conflict of opposite elements but the life cycle and life rule for the purpose of achieving the world of harmony, coexistence, and engendering via check and balance as well as confrontation between the opposite elements. In Nei Ching, like this, in the case where all of the antagonistic elements including the antagonism between You and Me, Yin and Yang affirm and tolerate each other, the organic view of the life in which the life of You and Me and the macrocosm is able to be maintained is suggested to the human being at a whole crisis.

A Study on Yin Yang, Wuxing, Mutual Collision, and Zangfu Combination of the Ten Heavenly Stems (십간(十干)의 음양(陰陽), 오행(五行), 상충(相沖), 장부배합(臟腑配合)에 관(關)한 연구)

  • Objectives : Understanding the Ten Stems and Twelve Branches is necessary to grasp the laws of change in Heaven and Earth. Methods : Based on relevant contents in East Asian classics, the Yin Yang, Sibling Wuxing, Husband-Wife Wuxing combinations as well as Mutual Collision and Zangfu combination were examined. Results & Conclusion : Yin Yang combination of the Ten Stems are divided according to odd/evenness. The Sibling Wuxing combination is categorized according to one life cycle of vegetation, resulting in Jia Yi Wood, Bing Ding Fire, Wu Ji Earth, Geng Xin Metal, Ren Gui Water. The Husband-Wife Wuxing combination of the Ten Stems are Jia Ji Earth, Yi Geng Metal, Bing Xin Water, Ding Ren Wood, Wu Gui Fire, which corresponds to the principles of the Duihuazuoyong Theory. Within the Husband-Wife Wuxing combination lies three principles which are Yin Yang combination, Mutual Restraining combination, and the Yang Stem restraining the Yin Stem. The Mutual Collision of the Ten Stems are Jia and Geng, Yi and Xin, Ren and Bing, Gui and Ding against each other. In matching Zangfu to the Ten Stems, Jia matches with Gallbladder, Yi matches with Liver; Bing matches with Small Intestine, Ding matches with Heart; Wu matches with Stomach, Ji matches with Spleen; Geng matches with Large Intestine, Xin matches with Lung; Ren matches with Bladder, Gui matches with Kidney. : When the adjacent vectors are extracted, the count-based word embedding method derives the main herbs that are frequently used in conjunction with each other. On the other hand, in the prediction-based word embedding method, the synonyms of the herbs were derived.

  • This article examines the trend of research on mathematical modeling of Yin-Yang and the Five Elements. Through the search engine Google and the library search service of Kyung Hee University, papers that mathematically studied the Yin-Yang Five Elements were searched. Among them, 7 cases published in academic journals were selected and briefly mentioned in the table. And we introduced specific details about four of them. The model format expressing the five elements as a nonlinear system of differential equations was discussed and evaluated.
