  • 1. Solubility diagram was used to estimate Chemical form of the Soil phosphates which supply phosphorus into soil solutions under submerged condition with soils originated from granite and basalt rocks. The granite origin soils with different amounts of available phosphorus have no effect of phosphate application on rice yield, while the basalt origin soil has the big effect. 2. Almost same pattern of change in pH and concentrations of phosphorus and cations in the soil solutions during the submerging period was. shown. Almost no difference in the values was recognized between NPK and NK treatments of the granite origin soils, but the difference of the basalt origin soil was recognized. 3. it was estimated from solubility diagram that phosphorus concentration in the soil solutions was governed by phosphate applied and variscite in the soils for the early stage of submerging period, and then it became to be governed by vivianite in the soils.

  • In this paper a novel approach is proposed to address the problem of deriving non-stationary stochastic processes which are compatible in the mean sense with a given (target) response (uniform hazard) spectrum (UHS) as commonly desired in the aseismic structural design regulated by contemporary codes of practice. The appealing feature of the approach is that it is non-iterative and "one-step". This is accomplished by solving a standard over-determined minimization problem in conjunction with appropriate median peak factors. These factors are determined by a plethora of reported new Monte Carlo studies which on their own possess considerable stochastic dynamics merit. In the proposed approach, generation and treatment of samples of the processes individually on a deterministic basis is not required as is the case with the various "two-step" approaches found in the literature addressing the herein considered task. The applicability and usefulness of the approach is demonstrated by furnishing extensive numerical data associated with the elastic design UHS of the current European (EC8) and the Chinese (GB 50011) aseismic code provisions. Purposely, simple and thus attractive from a practical viewpoint, uniformly modulated processes assuming either the Kanai-Tajimi (K-T) or the Clough-Penzien (C-P) spectral form are employed. The Monte Carlo studies yield damping and duration dependent median peak factor spectra, given in a polynomial form, associated with the first passage problem for UHS compatible K-T and C-P uniformly modulated stochastic processes. Hopefully, the herein derived stochastic processes and median peak factor spectra can be used to facilitate the aseismic design of structures regulated by contemporary code provisions in a Monte Carlo simulation-based or stochastic dynamics-based context of analysis.

  • This study was carried out to develop optimum sawdust medium for bottle cultivation of Pholiota adiposa. Five kinds of sawdust media were tested. Period of primordial formation was shorter 1-5 days in T3 and in T4 than in other treatments. Total cultivation period was 3-5 days longer in treatments including oak sawdust than in T5, treatment of poplar+rice bran(8:2). Stipe diameter, stipe length, and number of valid stipe were the biggest in T3. Yield of fruiting body was increased 33% in T3 and 12% in T4, respectively compared to T1 as control. Therefore, T3, treatment of oak sawdust+beet pulf+cottonseed meal(5:3:2), would be appropriate for the commercial production of Pholiota adiposa by bottle cultivation.

  • In 1963, a severe epidemic of cereal scab caused by Gibberella zeae occurred in southern Korea and to a less extent in central and northern Korea. In some areas losses were $80{\sim}100$ percent. The epiphytotic was due to heavy rainfall during the heading and flowering season which provided a favorable environment for this severe epidemic. Yield losses resulted a great social problem because of the resultant food and feed grain shortage, lose of seeds for planting the following crops and mycotoxicoses to man and animals. In the same year, a nationwide research committee was organized including plant pathologists, microbiologists, agronomists and biochemists under the juristiction of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. The committee initiated research on etiology, epidemiology, and control of the disease and on the toxic effect of infected grains to man and animals. The present paper will review some research carried out in Korea on cereal scab with special reference to epidemiology and mycotoxicoses to animals and man. In addition, the present status of research in Korea on aflatoxins in foods and toxic moldy rice will be briefly reviewed.

  • Holstein cows(n=8) were assigned to control diet(n=4) and treatment diet(n=4) containing products of Bromelain(50g/kg) and Zn-methionine (133g/kg). Basal diet was mixed as total mixed rations with 60% concentrate and 40% roughage(rice straw) and fed for 8 weeks. The milk production, somatic cell counts in milk were measured and determined. The results were summarized as follow. Average milk production was higher for cows fed treatment diet(30.2kg/d) than cows fed control diet(29.6kg/d) (P<0.05). The somatic cell counts was significantly lower for cows fed treatment diet ($179.8{\times}10^3/ml$) than cows fed control diet ($260.8{\times}10^3/ml$)(P<0.05). In conclusion, supplementation of both Bromelain and Zn-methionine increased milk production and reduced somatic cell counts in milk.

  • The energy for cooking starch prior to saccharification could be saved by fermenting raw starch into ethanol using Aspergillus niger koji of wheat bran. Optimum cultivation time to produce glucoamylase was 4 days in wheat bran medium. The rate of saccharification from uncooked corn starch were optimum at pH 3.3 and 40-$50^{\circ}C$. Corn and sweet potato starch were saccharified more efficiently by wheat bran koji than other tested starch sources. 5 days of fermentation were required for optimum yield of ethanol using a mixture of AspergiUus niger koji and dried yeast. Final ethanol yields from raw corn, sweet potato, and rice starch with agitation at the rate of 100 rpm were about 95% at $30^{\circ}C$.

  • Top-dressing pot experiment with $^{15}N$ urea was carried out by using three varieties. Two-split application was much better for Tongil line than 4-split. Fertilization efficiency (Fe), use efficiency (Eu) and absorbed fertilizer nitrogen efficiency (Ef) were much greater in 2-split than in 4-split. The order of Fe followed that of Ef. Grain yield and $^{15}N$ excess % among plant parts suggest that Tonsil line uptakes fertilizer nitrogen much in early stage and retranslocated well later. The order of soil nitrogen increment in plant per fertilizer nitrogen in plant $({\Delta}Ns/Nf)$ might be an index of soil nitrogen use efficiency due to fertilizer.

  • Cadmium pentachlorophenolxanthate has been synthesized with pentachlorophenol, carbondisulfide sodium hydroxide and cadmium chloride and its fungicidal activity was tested to Pyricularia oryzae and Cochliobolus miyabeanus. The results are summarized as followes; 1) The sample V synthesized by acidifying the crude PCP-xanthate solution at pH 8, then treated with $BaCl_2\;and\;CaC_2$ showed the highest purity, and the yield was $85.1\%$. 2) The same sample of $50\%$ wettable dust formulation inhibited conidial germination of P. oryzae and C. miyabeanus completely at 10 and 20 ppm, respectively. (Fig. 1) 3) The sample of $1.5\%$ dust formulation inhibited mycelial growth of P. oryzae and C. miyabeanus with 96 and $65\%$, respectively. The results were similar to those obtained by Ceresan calcium (Fig. 2) 4) Both dust and wettable powder formulations had no phytotoxcity on rice seedlings.

  • The time-dependent changes of red pigments production in solid-state plant scale fermentor using barley cultured with Monascus sp., instead of rice which was traditionally used, were investigated in this study. A steady increase in the yield of red pigments in barley occurred between the 3rd and 6th days. The optimized conditions (inoculation volume = 6∼8%, initial pH = 6, air supply = 0.6∼0.8 m) promoted the production of red pigments. Short-time steaming of barley (< 20 min) decreased fungal growth and pigments production due to the insufficient gelatiniza-tion. The optical density of the red pigments under the optimized conditions was 120 at 500 ]nm per gram of barley. In addition, the metabolites from the fermented barley with Monucus sp. showed antibacterial effects against Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhimurium. Barley was shown to be one of the best grain sources for solid-state fermentation with Monascu sp., fur obtaining natural pigments and also functional food materials.
