We examined the pressure effects on petroleum pitch synthesis by using open and closed reaction systems. The pressure effects that occur during the pitch synthesis were investigated in three pressure systems: a closed system of high pressure and two open systems under either an atmosphere or vacuum. A thermal reaction in the closed system led to the high product yield of a pitch by suppressing the release of light components in pyrolysis fuel oil. Atmospheric treatment mainly enhanced the polymerization degree of the pitch via condensation and a polymerization reaction. Vacuum treatment results in a softening point increase due to the removal of components with low molecular weights. To utilize such characteristic effects of system pressure during pitch preparations, we proposed a method for synthesizing cost-competitive pitch precursors for carbon materials. The first step is to increase product yield by using a closed system; the second step is to increase the degree of polymerization toward the desired molecular distribution, followed by the use of vacuum treatment to adjust softening points. Thus, we obtained an experimental quinoline insolubles-free pitch of product yield over 45% with softening points of approximately $130^{\circ}C$. The proposed method shows the possibility to prepare cost-competitive pitch precursors for carbon materials by enhancing product yield and other properties.
Chub mackerel Scomber japonicus is an economically important pelagic species in the western North Pacific. In the last 50 years, the annual total catch in Korean waters showed large fluctuations, ranging from 100 to $420{\times}10^3tons$. To provide a biological reference point for management of chub mackerel, we applied a simulation-based yield-per-recruit (Y/R) model that considered both temperature-dependent growth and size-dependent mortality. We estimated the fisheries yield with respect to varying biological reference points and environmental conditions, including 1) the instantaneous rate of fishing mortality (F), 2) length of fish at first capture ($L_c$), and 3) water temperature. The result of our analysis showed that the Y/R could be greatest when the $L_c$ ranges from 19-27 cm and F ranges from $1.48-2.00yr^{-1}$. Y/R increases with increased water temperature between 15 and $23^{\circ}C$. We suggest targeting an $L_c$ of 17 cm (age=0.6 years) under the assumed current of $F=0.48yr^{-1}$ for maximizing the chub mackerel harvest. Further analysis considering spawning and recruitment processes are required to provide biological reference points to ensure the sustainability of chub mackerel fisheries in Korean waters.
This Study was conducted to estimate the degree of dominance and gene frequency of some sueful characters in tobacco. The eight parents and a set of 28 crosses of F'1s was F'2s were used as materials, and planted on oriental's and burley cultivated system as randomized block designs, respectively. The observed characters were six agronomic characters which were plant height, number of leaves per plant, leaf length, leaf width, days to flowering and yield, and the data obtained from the experiment were analyzed from methods by Hayman's and Jinks. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. In Vr-Wr graphical analysis, number of leaves per plant, leaf length, days to flowering and yield were found to be inherited in partial dominance, and plant height was over dominance to be similar to complete dominance, but leaf width was inherited with partial dominance close to complete dominance. 2. In the gene frequency, two varieties Xanthi-Basma and KA 102, for days to flowering and yield had larger number of dominant genes as those were situated near the point of origen. 3. Additive effects of genes(D) were greater than dominance effects of Genes(H) for six agronomic characters except plant height, and mean degree of dominance over all loci was lower than 1 for days to flowering yield, leaf length and number of leaves per plant.
This study was carried out to investigate an optimum condition for the high angiotensin-l converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitory activity and the yield on enzyme concentration, casein concentration, and hydrolysis time. The optimum condition was performed by response surface methodology for acquirement of casein hydrolysate of milk which shows high ACE inhibitory activity, Among 8 tested enzymes, Protamex showed the highest activation degree with 77.03 unit/g from casein. Their hydrolysis degrees of flovourzyme 500MG, protamex, mixture from 1% casein were 85.5, 88.5, and 93.5%, respectively. The ranges of enzyme concentration (0.25-1.25%), casein concentration (2.5-12.5%), and hydrolysis time (20-100 min) as 3 independent variables through preliminary experiments of the yield of casein hydrolysate and ACE inhibitory activity, and it shows optimum response surface at a saddle point. It shows enzyme concentration (0.64%), casein concentration (8.38%), and hydrolysis time (55.81 min) in the yield aspect and showed the highest activity at enzyme concentration (0.86%), casein concentration (5.97%), and hydrolysis time (63.86 min) in ACE inhibitory aspect. The $R^2$ value of a fitted optimum formula on the hydrolysis yield was 0.9751 as the significant level of 1%. The $R^2$ value of a fitted optimum formula on ACE inhibitory activity is 0.8398, and the significance is recognized in the range of 5%.

This study aimed to analyze the effect of the change in CP class of a firm on the abnormal yield of its stock price. As a result, it was found that the change in CP class of a firm had an effect on the abnormal yield. That is. the abnormal yield rose when the class of CP rose while it dropped when the class of CP dropped. And it was analyzed that the class of CP in the firm in which its current net gain was great while it dropped in the firm in which the current net gain was small. And it was found that the CP class of the firm with the high debt to equity ratio rose when the CP class of the firm changed, whereas it rose in the firm with the low debt to equity ratio. But it was found that the size of majority shareholders equity rate in a firm, the size of corporate value of the firm, the size of cash flow of the firm and the size of the burden of financial costs of the firm were not related to the abnormal yield of its stock price. This study has its significance in analyzing the effect of the information on the change in CP class of the firm on the capital market. But it has its limitations in the sample firm and the selection of the point in time of disclosure.

The study was performed to optimize the processing conditions (alkali concentration, extraction time, and temperature) for rockfish skin gelatin based on yield using response surface methodology and comparison of the physicochemical properties with those of rockfish skin gelatin pretreated and extracted under ordinary conditions (alkali treatment concentration: 1.0 M; extraction time: 2 hr; extraction temperature: $60^{\circ}C$). Predicted maximum gelatin yield of 19.1% and gelatin content of 87.8% were obtained by extraction at $106.6^{\circ}C$ for 69.0 min after pretreatment with 1.1 M calcium hydroxide. Yield of gelatin extracted under high temperature/high pressure (G-HT/HP) was 54% higher than that extracted under ordinary temperature/time (G-OT/T). However, G-HT/HP was inferior in gel strength and gelling point to (G-OT/T), but comparable in transmission. Based on the physicochemical properties, G-HT/HP was unsuitable for use in products requiring higher physical properties, but could be useful for health-functional foods.
Cement manufacturing plant uses various kinds of industrial/municipal waste. The waste contains considerable amount of potassium, chlorine and small amount of heavy metal. Many researches were performed to fabricate valuable resources from the waste. In this study, various methods, which dissolves and crystallizes potassium/chlorine to extract potassium chloride, were experimented. Especially amount of water, slurry temperature, and stirring time were controlled. Then kind of heavy metal and content of potassium chloride were analyzed. The yield of potassium chloride increased, as the amount of water for slurry increased but it increased slightly, when the water content was over 200%. The yield tended to increase, when the temperature of slurry was over a certain point. The yield did not increase in case of over 10 minutes stirring time. The kind and content of heavy metal in potassium chloride were various according to stirring time. The main heavy metals were Pb, Cu, and $Cr^{6+}$.

Crop status monitoring and yield prediction at higher spatial resolution is a valuable tool in various decision making processes including agricultural policy making by the national and local governments. A prototype crop forecasting system was developed to project the size of rice crop across geographic areas nationwide, based on daily weather pattern. The system consists of crop models and the input data for 1,455 cultivation zone units (the smallest administrative unit of local government in South Korea called "Myun") making up the coterminous South Korea. CERES-rice, a rice crop growth simulation model, was tuned to have genetic characteristics pertinent to domestic cultivars. Daily maximum/minimum temperature, solar radiation, and precipitation surface on 1km by 1km grid spacing were prepared by a spatial interpolation of 63 point observations from the Korea Meteorological Administration network. Spatial mean weather data were derived for each Myun and transformed to the model input format. Soil characteristics and management information at each Myun were available from the Rural Development Administration. The system was applied to the forecasting of national rice production for the recent 3 years (1997 to 1999). The model was run with the past weather data as of September 15 each year, which is about a month earlier than the actual harvest date. Simulated yields of 1,455 Myuns were grouped into 162 counties by acreage-weighted summation to enable the validation, since the official production statistics from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry is on the county basis. Forecast yields were less sensitive to the changes in annual climate than the reported yields and there was a relatively weak correlation between the forecast and the reported yields. However, the projected size of rice crop at each county, which was obtained by multiplication of the mean yield with the acreage, was close to the reported production with the $r^2$ values higher than 0.97 in all three years.

Triaxial tests at isotropic confining pressure of 200 kPa were carried out to show the undrained shear behavior of artificially cemented sands, which were cemented by gypsum, and the influences of relative density and DOC (degree of cementation) were investigated from the results. The yield strength, the elastic secant modulus at yield point and the peak frictional angle of cemented sands increased abruptly compared to uncemented sands, and it was checked that cementation exerts more influence on the behavior of sand than the relative density. But after breakage of the cementation bonds, the relative density was more important factor on the behavior of sand than the cementation. Because the compressibility md the excess pore pressure of cemented sands were reduced due to the cementation bonds, the effective stress path of cemented sands was going toward to the total stress path of uncemented sands. The cementation of sand restricted the dialtion of sand at the pre-yield condition, but induced more dilation in the post-yield condition.

This study aimed to provide basic data for permeable pavement application upon design and installation stages by analyzing the effect of permeable pavement used on the facility area rather than using non-point pollutants treatment facility upon development business in accordance with recent trend. To perform this study, the area of development target was separately applied as impermeable and permeable developments so as to compare and analyze the economics of cut pollution load and installation construction cost. Consequently, the processing amount and cut load of non-point pollutant sources are influenced much by permeable and impermeable developments, and it was turned out to be better to develop target river area as permeable area rather than installing non-point pollutants treatment facility of equipment type or natural type upon development to yield smaller discharge load. If we can prepare a countermeasure regulating impermeable area ratio to certain level to manage non-point pollutants upon development based on this result, we can minimize the source of pollution caused by the development.
