  • Discussion on restoration of Yi Sun-sin's Geobukseon used in sea battles of Imjin War continues. This is because no historical records which we can understand external and internal structure of Geobukseon used in Imjin War do not remain until now. The Geobukseon currently restored based on pictures of woodprint of Jella-jwasuyeong and Tongjaeyeong Geobukseon in Yi-chungmugong Jeonseo published by king's command in the 19th year (1795) of King Jeongjo, but two Geobukseons were built 203 years after Imjin war and not the same as that of Imjin War. Geobukseon that was built by Yi Sun-sin in Imjin War and restored now has many problems in terms of its structure and shape since they do not accord with the records of the literature at that time. Yi Deok-hong's Picture of Hexangonal Ship, drawing Geobukseon in 1593 for the first time was not in it in the study of Geobukseon, but it agrees with Imjin War in terms of the time and in analysis of the structure through picture interpretation and the relationship between Panokseon, Jella-jwasuyeong, and Tongjaeyeong Geobukseon, the center of the upper part of the roof cover is flat, and iron spikes are stuck in the front, back, left and right. The structure and shapes of Geobukseon in the records at the time of Imjin War.

  • As a multidisciplinary study encompassing oceanography and history, we have attempted to reanalyze the course of a historical navel battle, Myungryang Naval Battle(September 16th, 1597 according to the lunar calendar) through hindcasting the paleo-tidal currents and -tides(PTC). Firstly, we conducted harmonic analysis using 6-month current data observed at Uldolmok and 1-year elevation data provided by Korea Ocean Research and Development Institute in order to understand their characteristics and to hindcast the PTC. Observation results show that Uldolmok, ~300m wide, relatively narrow channel, is characterized by a flood-dominant mixed mainly semidiurnal tidal regime induced by relatively-strong shallow water constituents, showing closely a standing wave type of tidal current. Further, we hindcasted PTC on the day of Myungryang Naval Battle. Our results were compared and discussed with results(time and speeds of maximum(flood and ebb) currents and high and low water times) of the previous studies estimated from different methods. Lastly, we reconstruct the course of the event of Myungryang Naval Battle recorded in the Admiral Sun-Sin Yi's War Diary(Nangjung Iigi in Korean) based on our hindcasting results.

  • The objective of present study is to investigate the sensitivity of aerostatic force coefficients of twin box girder of Yi Sun-sin Bridge according to the Reynolds numbers. This paper presents the 1:30 scale sectional model tests conducted at high speed wind tunnel in Korea Air Force Academy. Comparison with results at low Reynolds number obtained in KOCED Wind Tunnel Center in Chonbuk National University is also provide. The Reynolds number dependency of aerodynamic force coefficients were observed at present streamlined twin box girder. The drag coefficient revealed significant decrease of nearby 23% at supercritical region. The boundary layer trip strip was found to reduce the Reynolds number dependency of aerodynamic forces by fixing the location of flow transition.

  • Long span bridges such as steel cable stayed and suspension bridges are usually more flexible than short to medium span bridges and expected to have large deformations. Deflections due to live load for long span bridges are important since it controls the overall heights of the bridge for securing the clearance under the bridge and serviceability for securing the comfort of passengers or pedestrians. In case of sea-crossing bridges, the clearance of bridges is determined considering the height of the ship master from the surface of the water, the trim of the ship, the psychological free space, the tide height, and live load deflection. In the design of bridges, live load deflection is limited to a certain value to minimize the vibrations. However, there are not much studies that consider the live load deflection and its effects for long span bridges. The purpose of this study is to investigate the suitability of live load deflection limit and its actual effects on serviceability of bridges for steel cable-stayed and suspension bridges. Analytical study is performed to calculate the natural frequencies and deflections by design live load. Results are compared with various design limits and related studies by Barker et al. (2011) and Saadeghvaziri et al. (2012). Two long span bridges are selected for the case study, Yi Sun-Sin grand bridge (suspension bridge, main span length = 1545 m) and Young-Hung grand bridge (cable stayed bridge, main span length = 240 m). Long-term measured deflection data by GNSS system are collected from Yi Sun-Sin grand bridge and compared with the theoretical values. Probability of exceedance against various deflection limits are calculated from probability distribution of 10-min maximum deflection. The results of the study on the limitation of live load deflection are expected to be useful reference for the design, the proper planning and deflection review of the long span bridges around the world.

  • The issue with the drainpipe now a day is that they are laid underground Causing us to perform additional work to repair, such as digging up the ground and peeling off the insulator that surrounds the pipe. And such series works are difficult that concession appears from government and municipal office. However, if we can save time and money. Performance of piping robot that we are studied in existing session through fixing unit and improvement of cutting byte shorten and wished to heighten work efficiency. This is why we aye trying to develop a unit that can cut up the projecting parts which connects with the interior part of the drainpipes.

  • Reactive oxygen species damage biomolecules such as lipids, proteins, sugars and DNA, which can not only lead to various disease but also oxidative damage resulting aging. In order to search for antioxidants from plants, the antioxidant effects of the MeOH extracts from 182 plants were evaluated. The results showed that thirteen plant extracts exhibited antioxidant activity (>80%) in DPPH radical assay, seven plant extracts demonstrated antioxidant activity (>40%) in the hydroxyl radical assay and eighteen plant extracts were active (>80%) in the lipid peroxidation assay. In particular, the extracts of Distylium racemosum (Hamamelidaceae), Astilbe koreana (Saxifragaceae), Astilbe chinensis and Euphorbia supina (Euphorbiaceae) were identified as potent principles of antioxidant activity in all the assay systems.

  • The early history of gun powder (black powder) and explosives was closely connected with the discovery of methods of preparing and purifing salpetre (potassium nitrate KNO$_3$). The Chineses apparently became acquainted with salpetre firstly on about 11th century, and they were possibly the original discoverers of salpetre for raw material of gun powder. The Egyptians called it “Chinese snow”, and it is significant that Chingis-Khan, the Mongol conqueror, took the Chinese eenginees with him in 1218 to use it for attacking the fortifications of the Persian cities. The black powder was invented by chance by Chinese alchemists during the Song dynasty (11th century) in the process of manufacturing medicine, and the powder was introduced to Europe by Mongol army. The manufacturing method of salpetre and gun powder was introduced to Korea from China in 1374, and the powder alld gunnery manufacturing project was developed by Mu Sun Choe(崔茂宣), the first Korean engineer late in Koryo dynasty. Coming in to Yi dynasty the explosive technic, extractive method of salpetre, and gunnery manufacturing process were developed greatly by Mu Sun Choe and Hai Sin Choe (崔海臣). However, confronting with the Japanes invasion at Imjin War (1597) with more powerful western style rifles which had been introduced from the Portuguese, on the contrary Korean army with the traditional guns couldn't compete with them. The Chochong(烏銃, the western rifle introduced in Japane) were much superior to the Chinese style traditional guns in the shooting power and striking efficiency. On the other hand, the Japanese battle ships armed only with the Chochong, when confronted with the Korean turtle shaped ships under the commanding of Admiral Yi Sun-Sin(李舞臣), were defeated by the Korean canons on the ships. The technical development of the modern powder industry in Korea. with the construction of four big explosive plants from 1930 to 1945, has resulted the mass-production of explosives. This study was purposed to investigate to the process with regard to the details of introduction to the explosive technology in Korea, and intended to give a help to the engineers who are engaged in study of the explosive technics by means of giving a spot light data on the early process of the designs, and making suggestion to the researchers for further study and invent a new and modern explosive.

  • In this work, we used impedance spectroscopy analysis to determine the effect of the $HfO_X$ treatment on the surface of ITO and to model the equivalent circuit for OLEDs. Devices with an ITO/Organic material/Al structure can be modeled as resistances and capacitances arranged in parallel or in series. The number of elements depends on the composition of the structure, essentially the number of layers, and the contacts.
