Chemical and Mechanical Properties of Yellow Poplar Pulp Produced by Formic Acid- Hydrogen Peroxide Pulping (개미산-과산화수소 펄핑에 의하여 생산된 백합나무 펄프의 화학적 및 역학적 특성 분석)

  • TFormic acid-hydrogen peroxide (or performic acid) pulping process needs milder reaction condition than other chemical pulping process. Two-step formic acid-hydrogen peroxide pulping process can produce the chemical pulp with similar pulp yield and lignin content compared with soda-anthraquinone process. Formic acid-hydrogen peroxide pulp can be produced less xylan content than other alkaline pulps, which favor for dissolving pulp production. Formic acid-hydrogen peroxide pulp showed better response beating than soda-anthraquinone(AQ) pulps with reaching target freeness with less beating. Also, formic acid-hydrogen peroxide pulp had better tensile index at similar freeness level compared with soda-AQ pulps.

  • In order to optimize the process for development of super deep black fiber, the silica-containing polyester fabric, SN2000, was investigated in terms of mass reduction process by sodium hydroxide, selection of high color strength dyes, and resin treatment. As the results, the mass reduction condition which used 15g/L of sodium hydroxide at $120^{\circ}C$ was determined and Dianix Deep Black Plus was selected for the best deep coloration at around 5% owf. Contrary to the prevailed understanding that the additional use of chromatic dyes would enhance the deep coloration, four kinds of chromatic dyes such as yellow, red, blue, and green dyes did not make great effect on the deep coloration. To increase the effect, the commercial resin that has low refractive index was used additionally and the resin made it possible to lower the lightness of the fabrics down to 8.7 which was generally accepted for super highly deep black fabric.

Dietary Behaviors, Health-related Lifestyle and Blood Lipid Profile of Obese Children in Incheon (인천시 비만초등학생의 식행동, 건강관련 생활습관 및 혈중 지질농도)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the anthropometric and blood biochemical characteristics, the dietary behaviors and health-related lifestyles of obese children in Incheon. A cross-sectional survey was conducted using anthropometric measurements, biochemical assessments and questionnaire analysis. The subjects included 7,055 obese children residing in the Incheon area (from 106 elementary schools). The degree of obesity was classified using the Obesity Index (OI) as light 20% < OI < 30% ; Medium 30% < OI < 50% ; Severe 50% > OI. The statistical analysis was conducted using SPSS 10.0 program. Most subjects fell within the medium range of obesity. Most subjects had dietary problems such as overeating, unbalanced meals and skipping breakfast. The ratio of boy subjects eating green and yellow vegetables was lowe. when compared to that of the girl subjects. The boy subjects exercised more frequently and longer than the girls. As the Obesity Index increased, hypercholesterolemia significantly increased. The blood cholesterol levels of the subjects were positively correlated with body fat, waist/hip ratio and BMI; HDL cholesterol levels of the subjects were negatively correlated with the anthropometric data and the LDL cholesterol levels of the subjects were positively correlated with body fat. The blood triglycerides levels of the subjects were positively correlated with body weight, body fat, waist/hip ratio and BMI. Therefore, proper nutritional education and intervention are required for an improvement of obese children's dietary behavior, heath-related factors and blood lipid profiles.

  • The optical characteristics; luminous flux, correlated color temperature, and CIE -chromaticity coordinate etc., of HB LED(high brightness light emitting diode) of yellow/green/white SMD(surface mounted device) type were tested with integrating sphere photometer and monochromator, and the results were comparatively evaluated And, for the white LED, color rendering indices were considered to analyze.

  • White LEDs, based on blue LED chips coated with a yellow emitting phosphor (YAG:Ce), have several disadvantages. In this paper, we report the improvement in CRI [Color Rendition Index] using $GdAl_5O_{12}:Ce$ (GdAG:Ce) and related phosphors for blue LEDs. A modified combustion synthesis route using mixed fuel was used for synthesis route. By using this procedure, we formed the desired compounds in a single step. LEDs were then fabricated by coating the blue LED chips (CREE 470 nm, 300 micron) with the GdAG:Ce phosphor dispersed in epoxy resin. The CRI typically between 65~70 for the YAG:Ce based LED was improved to 87 for LEDs fabricated from the Gd(Al,Ga)G phosphors.

  • Photocurable hyperbranched acrylates were prepared from acrylic acid and hyperbranched polyol (HBP-16, 32, 64). Physical properties of three kinds of photocurable hyperbranched acrylated were investigated. Thermal stability of UV cured film measured by TGA shifted to higher temperature with increasing of functionality. Hardness, abrasion resistance, and tensile strength of UV cured film also increased with increasing functionality of acrylate. Weathering test for UV cured film showed the value of yellow index increased with increasing functionality of acrylate.

  • One new cellular slime mold, Dicivostelium valenstemmun sp. n. Shim et Chang, is isolated from the fermentation layer of soils in the cool temperate forests of Surak mountain, Korea. This species has the sori and sorophore yellow-pigmented, and sparse or irregular branches. And it is characterized by tall and robust sorocarps, well-form basal disks, mucoroides-type aggregations and large spores. This species has sorophores gradually tapering from bases to tips, simple capi- tate sorophore tips and conical bases. When prostrates on the plates, it has sparsely clavate bases. Spores are considerably large, 6.8~9.9 x 3.4~5.1 $\mu$m(avg. 8.5 x 4.1 $\mu$m), L /W index l.84~2.43(avg. 2.07) without polar granules. Key words: Diccyostelium valeustemmum, Cool temperate forests, Surak mountain.

  • This study is to analyze and compare on the sky condition of cloud amount and measured solar horizontal irradiation in Seoul. Sky cover method is determination of sky condition used by cloud amount of the Meteorological Administration. And HCI method is determination of sky condition used by measured solar horizontal irradiation. The HCI methods of Erbs et al.(1982), Orgill and Hollands(1977) appear a lot of error because of the air pollution such as smog phenomenon or yellow sand phenomenon and so on. Therefore, The purpose of this study is to improve the method for determination of sky condition.

  • Yellow-emitting $Y_3Al_5O_{12}$:Ce nanocrystalline phosphor and orange-emitting CdS:Mn/ZnS core/shell quantum dots were prepared by a modified polyol and a reverse micelle chemistry, respectively. To compensate a poor color rendering index of YAG:Ce nanocrystalline phosphor due to the lack of red spectral component, CdS:Mn/ZnS quantum dots were blended into YAG:Ce. Based on spectral evolutions in the blended systems, hybrid white light emitting diodes are fabricated and characterized.

High-brightness Phosphor-conversion White Light Source Using InGaN Blue Laser Diode

  • A phosphor-conversion white light source is demonstrated using an InGaN-based blue laser diode (LD) and a yellow-emitting phosphor excited by the blue LD. The photometric and colorimetric properties of this blue-LD-based white light source are characterized. When injection current of the LD is 100 mA, luminous flux and luminous efficiency of the white light are found to be over 5 lm and 10 lm/W, respectively. When injection current is >90 mA, luminance is estimated to be larger than 10 Mcd/$cm^2$. In addition, color characteristics of the white light such as chromaticity coordinates, a correlated color temperature, and a color rendering index are found to be quite stable as current and temperature of the LD varies. The demonstrated LD-based white light source is expected to be used in high-brightness illumination applications with good color stability.
