  • In this paper, the design of a double-dipole quasi-Yagi antenna (DDQYA) with a gain over 7 dBi at 1.70-2.70 GHz band is studied. The proposed DDQYA consists of two strip dipoles with different lengths and a ground reflector, which are connected trough a coplanar stripline. The length of the second dipole is adjusted to increase the gain in the low frequency band, whereas a rectangular patch director is appended to the DDQYA to enhance the gain in the middle and high frequency band. The effects of the length of the second dipole, and the length and width of the director on the antenna performance are analyzed, and final design parameters to obtain a gain over 7 dBi are obtained. A prototype of the proposed DDQYA is fabricated on an FR4 substrate, and the experimental results show that the antenna has a frequency band of 1.60-2.86 GHz for a VSWR < 2, and measured gain ranges 7.2-7.6 dBi at 1.70-2.70 GHz band.

  • In this paper, a novel diversity and directivity mode-switchable planar antenna array is proposed. For the diversity mode, four elements are unfolded on the plane and high isolation can be achieved. On the other hand, the antenna function is changed to the directivity mode when they are folded and stacked. Each element works such as a stacked Yagi-Uda antenna with high directivity. Especially, the curved feed line as well as the hybrid feeding method is used to improve performances. The simulation results agree well with measurement results and it is successfully demonstrated that two modes are properly working at 2.4 GHz.

  • In this paper, we introduce a design method for a broadband planar quasi-Yagi antenna (QYA) for terrestrial digital television (DTV) reception. The coplanar strip line which feeds the driver dipole is connected to a microstrip line and is terminated by short circuit. By appending a wide strip-type rectangular director at a location close to the driver dipole, broadband impedance matching and gain enhancement in a high frequency region are obtained. The gain characteristics in a low frequency region are improved by adding a reflector formed by a truncated ground plane. To reduce the antenna size, the strip-type dipole and reflector are modified to half bow-tie (V)-shaped elements. The effects of various parameters on the antenna characteristics are examined. An antenna, as a design example for the proposed antenna, is designed for the operation in the frequency band of 470-806 MHz for terrestrial DTV. The optimized antenna is fabricated on an FR4 substrate and the experimental results show that the antenna has a good performance such as a frequency band of 450-848 MHz for a VSWR < 2, gain > 4.1 dBi, and front-to-back ratio > 10.4 dB.

  • The paper presents a design of simple four-element microstrip-patch array antenna that is suitable for 5G applications. The proposed array consists of four rectangular microstrip patch elements with semicircular etches made on both sides of each elements. The antenna is fed using the combination of series and corporate feeding networks. The size of the ground is also changed to improve the antenna frequency. Finally, yagi elements are also added to improve the directive gain of the antenna. The presented microstrip patch array is able to achieve wide frequency bandwidth of 21.95-31.86 GHz. The antenna has also attained gain of 9.7 dB at 28 GHz and has maintained high gain and high directivity throughout the frequency band. The proposed array antenna fed by series-corporate feeding network, with low profile and simple structure is a good candidate for 5G applications.

  • This study is a study that designed in-building antennas with improved orientation to improve 5G quality in buildings as 5G is stabilized and more and more traffic is expected to occur in buildings. Instead of applying the forward arrangement of antenna elements, which is the Yagi antenna propagation orientation principle, the antenna design method of vertical arrangement applied to the base station antenna was proposed, and it was confirmed through experiments that antenna orientation increased. According to the experimental results, the directivity did not increase significantly within 10m of the separation distance from the antenna, but the directivity increased by about 3dB at the distance separated by more than 10m. Considering that the wireless environment in the building has various variables such as structure of internal structure, materials such as concrete and glass, closed space, and walls, it is expected that antenna with improved orientation can expand the scope of 5G quality improvement and maintain stable communication service in the building.

  • This paper presents a study on a rectenna for rectification of incident low power microwave signals with power densities less than 2 mW/$cm^2$ at 2.45 GHz. The proposed rectenna is designed and implemented by a rectifier with voltage doubler structure and a printed Yagi antenna which suppress re-radiation of the second order harmonic of fundamental frequency. The printed Yagi antenna has a gain of about 5 dB, and the measured conversion efficiencies of the rectenna are from 32 % to 42 % when its incident power levels are from 0 dBm to 14 dBm. The developed rectenna is expected to be useful in the power transmission system.

  • When a straight-in landing from an instrument approach using ILS or VOR/DME is not possible or desirable because of topographical reason or bad weather, a circling approach maneuver is initiated by the pilot to align the aircraft with a runway for landing. Visual contact with the runway is necessary while conducting a circle to land maneuver. This research is to develop a new warning system based on a conventional marker system which alerts pilots to watch out for exceeding the circling approach area. The airborne system also uses the same receiver unit without any new installations. The objective of this research is to design and develop a Yagi antenna in a special form. The research includes computer simulations to determine the size of antenna radiation pattern and to compute an expected flight path in case of alarm to validate effectiveness of the system.

  • In this papar, we have proposed a small electronically steerable parasitic array radiator with 180 degree azimuth beam coverage and high gain characteristics. The proposed antenna is composed of a uniplanar Yagi dipole as a feeding element and two dipoles as parasitic elements. The fabricated antenna is tested by electronically changing the reactance loaded on the parasitic dipoles and the results show that it has 5.2dB~6.7dB gain in $-90^{\circ}{\sim}90^{\circ}$wide azimuth range and -10dB return loss characteristics within 5.725GHz~5.825GHz UNII band.

  • In this paper, a step type driver dipole antenna with a tapered balance and unbalance (balun) by a coplanar waveguide (CPW) to coplanar strip (CPS) transition is proposed. The proposed antenna consisted of step type driver, a CPW to CPS transition and tapered balun. The proposed antenna is realized the multi and wide resonate frequency band to introduce the step type driver and tapered balun. The step type driver is acted as a director too. This antenna could be more easily designed than the conventional printed quasi-Yagi dipole antenna. The operating frequency bandwidth was 650 [MHz] (2.65~3.3 GHz), 900 [MHz] (4.7~5.6 GHz) under a return-loss criterion of less than 10 dB. The measurements of the proposed antenna exhibited good results in the wideband operating frequency and radiation pattern. The proposed antenna can support wireless communications applications.

  • In this paper, a new type of aperture coupled microstrip patch antenna with tilted-beam based on the principal of the dipole yagi antenna is proposed and investigated experimentally. Its configuration is composed by 3 types of patches; reflector, driver, and director. Tilted beam patterns are effected by many parameters as those of dipole yagi antenna; sizes of the patches, gaps between the patches, characteristics of the substrates, feeding method and etc. Therefore, in this paper, the effects of varying design parameters of this antenna are studied with a goal of enhancing the gain and tilting the beams. A microtrip patch antenna with tilted beam based on performance trade-offs is designed and fabricated. Measured and simulated results for return loss and radiation patterns are presented. It has 45$^{\circ}$ tilted beam and very close to simulation beam pattern at resonant frequency, 2.58 GHz.
