Single Crystal Growth of $Y_3Fe_5O_{12}$ by the Traveling solvent Floating Zone(TSFZ) Method (Traveling solvent Floating Zone법에 의한 $Y_3Fe_5O_{12}$단결정 육성)

  • Single crystals of yttrium iron garnet $(YIG:Y_3Fe_5O_{12})$have been grown by a modified floating zone crystal growth technique(Traveling Solvent Floating Zone, TSFZ method) using an infrared radiation convergence type heater. A series of evaluations for the resulting YIG single crystals were carried out. The grown crystals are 5~6mm in diameter and 15~35mm in length. The conditions of single crystal growth were as follows; growth rate 1mm/h, rotation rate 30rpm, gas flow rate 0.2 1/min., zone aspect ratio 1, convexity of interface 0.29, respectively.

  • The mean grain size of sample decreases with increasing the addition of $Al_2O_3$ in the basic composition of YIG. It is mean that the addition of $Al_2O_3$ is helpless the development of magnetic properties in YIG garnet, considering the relation of ${\mu}{\propto}D^{1/3}$. To increase addition of $Al_2O_3$ decreased the area of hysterisis loop. It is known that the addition of $Al_2O_3$ is help the development of magnetic properties in YIG garnet, considering the relation of loss component factor and the area of hysterisis loop. As a results, sample with the addition of $Al_2O_3$ 0.5 mol % among the fabricated samples is must effective in the magnetic properties of YIG Garnet.

  • 고주파 마그네트론 스퍼터법을 이용한 YIG(yttrium iron garnet)박막 제조시 기판유형, 기판온도, 스퍼터전력, 스퍼터가스 등의 증착변수와 증착후 열처리 조건이 YIG 박막의 결정성, 화학조성, 미세구조 그리고 자기적 특성에 미치는 영향에 대하여 고찰하였다. 75$0^{\circ}C$ 이상의 온도에서 수행한 증착후 열처리에 의하여 비정질 박막이 결정화되었으며, 특히 GGG(gadolinium gallium garnet)기판 위에 제조된 박막은 강한 (111)우선배향성을 나타냈다. 박막조성은 스퍼터가스 내의 산소분율에 민감하게 영향을 받았으며, 산소분율이 20%인 스퍼터가스를 사용하여 제조된 박막은 Y2.88Fe3.84O12의 조성을 나타내었다. 증착후 열처리 온도가 90$0^{\circ}C$로부터 110$0^{\circ}C$로 증가함에 따라, GGG 기판위의 박막의 표면거칠기는 2.5nm에서 40nm로 증가하였으며, 보자력과 강자성 공명 선폭은 감소하였다.

A Study on the Development of Gap filler Isolator by using the YIG Ferrite (YIG Ferrite를 이용한 Gap Filter용 아이솔레이터 개발에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, developed isolator for gap filler is analyzed and designed using the simulation tool. Using the designed parameters, isolator is fabricated and tested in gap filler band. Temperature characteristics of isolator depend on magnet, YIG ferrite, and conductor etc. These require temperature stability and possible method of compensation for the temperature dependent effects. The temperature stabilization tries to use Ni-alloy. Developed isolator that compare with room temperature and high temperature characteristics has change fewer than 20 MHz. Implemented isolator shows more than 20 dB isolation characteristic at center frequency(2,650 MHz) and has 0.2 dB insertion loss in overall 100 MHz operating bandwidth. Return losses of input and output port are measured below -20 dB.

Development of the RE indirect-heating LPE furnace and the effect of impurity in YIG film on the MSSW properties

  • We developed a new RF indirect-heating LPE furnace. The thermal gradient of our newly developed furnace is less than that of direct heating, and is as gentle as that of the resistance-heating LPE furnace. With this new furnace, the heating and/or cooling is faster than that of the resistance-heating furnace. Impurity-doped YIG film was grown from a $PbO-B_{2}O_{3}$, based flux on a (111) GGG substrate. To study the effect of the impurities on the MSSW threshold power and the saturation response time, we used two microstrip lines to excite and propagate the MSSW at 1.9 GHz. The MSSW threshold power and saturation response time was found to be related to the $\Delta$H.

Synthesis of Yttrium Iron Garnet Powder by Homogeneous Precipitation and its Crystallization (균일침전법에 의한 Yttrium Iron Garnet 분말의 합성 및 결정화)

  • YIG precursor powder was obtained by homogeneous precipitation in chloride salt solution by thermal decom-position of urea. It was found that ferric ions precipitated prior to yttrium ions. The precipitate was minute and spherical in shape. The precipitate formed consisted of the mixture of amorphous and ferric oxyhydroxide. Crystallization of YIG was proceeded by solid state reaction of intermediate YFeO3 and Fe2O3 in the temperature range of 85$0^{\circ}C$ to 140$0^{\circ}C$. Single phase of YIG was obtained by heat-treatment of the powder at 140$0^{\circ}C$ for 6 hrs in air. The powder calcined was molded into pellets and sintered in air. The maximum density of 4,92 g/cm3(95.1% of theoretical density) was obtainable for the pellet sintered at 145$0^{\circ}C$ using the powder calcined at 90$0^{\circ}C$.
