적층 수에 따른 YBCO 선재의 전송전류 손실 특성 (Characteristic of Transport Current Losses of Multi-Stacked YBCO Coated Conductors)

  • Multi-stacked HTS tapes are needed to conduct large current in the power application of superconducting machine. This paper deals with the transport current loss of multi-stacked YBCO coated conductor. YBCO coated conductor that was used in this experiment has two Cu layers above and below of YBCO layer for stabilization. Transport losses of four different stacks, single, 2 stack, 3 stack and 4 stack, were measured. Measured results were compared analytic equation suggested by Norris.

Preparation of Crack-free HTS YBCO Films by EPD Method

  • Electrophoretic deposition (EPD) of alcohol YBCO suspensions on the Ag wire electrode is studied. Polyethyleneglycol was coordinated to a structure formed by the EPD process with YBCO particles. The d.c electric fields of 200-300 V/cm are applied for 1-10 min. The optimal condition for the EPD allows modifying the properties and microstructure of the deposited films. Superconducting coatings with nanometer-sized pores and a preferred orientation along the caxis were prepared from the result with chemically modified precursor solution. In contrast, YBCO coatings of submicrometer-sized pores and randomly orientated grains were prepared from the solution without PEG.

  • In this paper, the variable producing conditions of YBCO superconducting powder by use of sol-gel method was investigated. YBCO superconducting powder which was prepared by sol-gel method was shown the characteristic gel formation, particle size and its properties under variable preparation conditions, such as pH, drying and processing time, and powder heat treatment, etc.

  • YBCO CC의 초전도 전력기기 응용에 대한 자화손실 저감을 위한 연구가 진행중이다. 본 논문에서는 임계상태 모델에 기초한 수치해석을 이용하여 슬릿개수의 변화에 따른 YBCO CC의 자화손실 저감 특성을 해석하였다. 수치해석을 위한 YBCO CC의 규격은 두께와 폭이 각각 $2{\mu}m$, 4mm이며 슬릿에 의한 선재분한인 필라멘트는 각각 2,4,8개이다. 또한, 수치해석의 결과는 strip모델의 자화손실식과 비교하였다. 해석 결과, 자기적으로 결합되지 않은 strip모델 해석값과 수치해석값은 차이를 보였으며 필라멘트 개수의 변화에 따라 약 1/n 수준으로 자화손실이 저감됨을 확인하였다.

Magnetic levitation properties of single- and multi-grain YBCO bulk superconductors

  • Single-grain (c-normal or c-parallel) and multi-grain YBCO superconductors were prepared by a melt growth process with/without seeding. The magnetic levitation force and trapped magnetic field at liquid N2 temperature (77 K) of the YBCO superconductors were investigated. Samples for the levitation force measurement were zero-field cooled (ZFC) to 77 K, and samples for trapped field measurement were field-cooled (FC) using Nd magnets. As for the magnetic levitation force, the c-normal, single grain sample showed the largest value, whereas the multi-grain sample showed the lowest value. The trapped magnetic field of the c-normal and c-parallel single-grain samples was 4-5 times that of the multi-grain sample. In addition, as the external magnetic field (the number of magnets) increased, the both properties increased proportionally. These results were explained in terms of the orientation dependence of the levitation forces and the magnetic field trapping capability of the YBCO superconductor.

일괄처리방식을 이용한 MOD 공정의 변수 최적화 (Optimization of process variables in batch-type MOD process)

  • Optimization of process variables, including oxygen and water partial pressure and also an nesting temperature, was performed in batch-type process to fabricate YBCO films on LaAlO3 single crystal. In this work, YBCO oxide powder was used as a starting precursor for metal-organic deposition(MOD)method. The precursor films were fabricated in batch furnace and they were converted to the epitaxial YBCO films at the same furnace with varying the process variables. The oxygen partial pressure was varied from 100ppm to 2000ppm and the water partial pressure from 1.2% to 12.2%. The window for optimal P(O2) was narrow about 700ppm for batch-type process. YBCO films in bathc-thype MOD process were optimized at 740-770oC and P(H2O) of 2.3%-7.3%.

YBCO 초전도 벌크 합성 (Fabrication of YBCO Superconducting Bulk Magnets)

  • In this study, we fabricated single grain YBCO bulk superconductors with control of the distance between the seed and the upper surface of the YBCO compacts. The magnetic levitation force of the YBa2Cu3O7 superconducting bulk, which corresponds to the energy amount of the superconducting bulk, was measured to be 32.634 N at the center of the bulk where the seed was placed. Under field cooling conditions, a capture magnetic force of 2.17 kG was observed at the center of the bulk. The trapped magnetic force curve corresponding to the stability of the superconducting bulk means that the superconducting specimens were well grown in the form of single grains.

Resistance Increase Behavior of HTS Wire with Stabilizer Layer on Applied Over-currents

  • YBCO-coated conductors, called "second-generation wires," show a remarkably greater increase in the amount or speed of their resistance than BSCCO wires when a quench occurs. This is probably because of the specific resistance at their stabilizer layer, which also affects their voltage grade. YBCO coated conductors with copper as a stabilizer layer have a voltage grade of 1.5-2 V/cm, and those with stainless steel as a stabilizer layer have a voltage grade of about 0.5-0.6 V/cm. The voltage grade of YBCO coated conductors is important in selecting and applying superconducting wires to power instruments later. In this study, two kinds of YBCO-coated conductors with different stabilizer layers and one kind of BSCCO wire were prepared. Among them, based on the YBCO coated conductors that had a stainless steel stabilizer layer with a low voltage grade, five kinds of experimental samples for joining were prepared with the remaining two kinds of wires. Using the prepared samples, the current application properties and the resistance increase in the flux-flow and the quench states of the single wire and the joined wires were compared.

Fault Angle Dependent Resistance of YBCO Coated Conductor with Stainless Steel Stabilizer Layer

  • To manufacture YBCO-coated conductors as superconducting fault current limiters, it is important to conduct researches on their durability. To test their durability, it is necessary to investigate their properties before and after the quench in more severe conditions than in general operating conditions. In this study, their voltage-current and resistance properties were measured before and after a fault current was repetitively applied to them. For the applied voltage, the voltage grades of the YBCO coated conductors were considered. The current amplitude was controlled using protective resistance on an experimental track, and the time and number of applications were fixed to produce the quench occurrence at the fault angles of $0^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$, and $90^{\circ}$. The operating conditions of the YBCO coated conductors as the main components of superconducting fault current limiters were determined using their voltage properties. The voltage properties of the YBCO coated conductors that were analyzed in this research will be used as important data for their practical application to superconducting fault current limiters.

  • We investigated the properties of artificial pinning centers of YBCO multilayer films in which $Y_2O_3$ and ZnO nanoparticles are uniformly introduced by using the pulsed laser deposition (PLD) technique. $Y_2O_3$ and ZnO nanoparticles were deposited on top of YBCO buffer layer and the density of nanoparticles was controlled by varying the number of nanoparticle layers. YBCO superconducting layers with total thickness of 250 nm were deposited on top of $Y_2O_3$ and ZnO nanoparticles. Based on analyses of the surface morphology, the transition temperature $T_c$, and the critical current density $J_c$, we discussed the difference between the two kinds of nanoparticles as flux pinning centers.
