Blood products from slaughterhouses that are not hygienically prepared for disposal or food consumption pose a human health hazard. Gamma irradiation is an effective method for sterilization of blood products, but may introduce changes in the molecular characteristics of proteins. This study evaluated the effects of irradiation on animal plasma proteins. Bovine and porcine blood was obtained from a slaughterhouse and the plasma proteins purified and lyophilized. The secondary structure and molecular weight distribution of the plasma protein solutions and powders were examined after ${\gamma}$-irradiation at 1, 5, 7 and 10 kGy. Gamma-irradiation affected the molecular properties of the protein solutions, but not the protein powders. Circular dichroism and sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis studies showed that increased doses of ${\gamma}$-irradiation decrease the ordered structure of plasma proteins in solution, and cause initial fragmentation of the polypeptide chains and subsequent aggregation.
A design of experiments was applied in order to investigate the effect of processing variables in UV irradiation on the electrical/optical properties in indium-zinc oxide thin films, The processing variables, equivalently input variables are listed as UV irradiation time, oxygen flow rate, and chamber pressure. The statistical significance of Ultra Violet (UV) treatment was confirmed using a paired-t test. The full factorial $2^3$ design was employed to determine significant main and interaction effects in UV irradiation process. The chamber pressure and the interaction between UV irradiation time and $O_2$ flow rate were found to be statistically significant at the significance level of 0.1. Furthermore, the optimized approach was proposed in achieving the improved conductivity after UV irradiation.
The organic yields (i.e. fraction of nuclear events resulting in organic compound formation) of the radioative neutron capture reactions of halogens in purified bromobenzene have been determined varying extraction time, at $100^{\circ}C$ for thermal effect, varying irradiation time, varying neutron flux and with additional U. V. irradiation. Among the important results are; (1) The organic yields show no remarkable fluctuations with time following neutron irradiation; (2) The organic yields show no change with thermal energy; (3) The organic yields of degassed samples are same in different length of irradiation time whereas the yields of the samples in open air appear to increase with increasing time of irradiation (4) The organic yields increase remarkably with increased neutron flux; (5) The organic yields show a sharp increase by additional U. V. irradiation after neutron irradiation.

The sanitizing effect of irradiation on the fresh vegetable extract juices was investigated. Total bacteria, coliform bacteria and total ascorbic acid were determined during the storage periods at 4oC. Chlorophyll, carotenoid, tannin, electron donating ability and peroxidase activity were determined immediately after irradiation. Results showed that the viable cells were detected below the level of 105 CFU/ml during 12 days with doses of 3 and 5 kGy. Total ascorbic acid and tannin contents increased immediately after irradiation. However, irradiation didn't affect chlorophyll and car otenoid contents, electron donating ability, and peroxidase activity. It was considered that irradiation was effective in sanitizing fresh vegetable extract juices.

We studied the degradation of EVA for the protection of solar cell by UV-rays irradiation. We investigated the reduction of electrical efficiency, photo transmmitance and degradation of EVA by UV-rays irradiation. We utilized the UV irradiation equiped with fluorescent 313nm UV lamp and radiated for 400 hours. For the chemial analysis, we used the UV-vis spectrometer, XPS and examined the degradation mechanism by UV irradiation. It is found that the discolored phenomena, the decrease of photo transmmitance and oxidation reaction is occured by UV irradiation on the EVA sample for the protection of solar cell.
For the purpose of healing the degradation part, $CO_2$ laser beam was irradiated with different irradiation condition (porer, diameter, velocity and beam type) to find out optimum irradiation condition. The test series of hardness, residual stress measurement, and fatigue were carried out after the irradiation. Experimental results show that micro-hardness values on the surface of the irradiated specimens m approximately 2.5 times higher than those of un-irradiated ones. Fatigue tests show that the fatigue life was improved by the compressive residual stress after laser beam irradiation. However, some specimens with different conditions show the shorter fatigue life. It means that laser beam irradiation with optimum irradiation condition and optimum absorb energy, Q can improve the fatigue strength.
High-Cr martensitic steel HT-9 is one of the candidate materials for advanced nuclear energy systems. Thanks to its excellent thermal conductivity and irradiation resistance, ferritic/martensitic steels such as HT-9 are considered for in-core applications of advanced nuclear reactors. The harsh neutron irradiation environments at the reactor core region pose a unique challenge for structural and cladding materials. Microstructural and microchemical changes resulting from displacement damage are anticipated for structural materials after prolonged neutron exposure. Consequently, various irradiation effects on the service performance of in-core materials need to be understood. In this work, the fundamentals of radiation damage and irradiation effects of the HT-9 martensitic steel are reviewed. The objective of this paper is to provide a background introduction of displacement damage, microstructural evolution, and subsequent effects on mechanical properties of the HT-9 martensitic steel under neutron irradiations. Mechanical test results of the irradiated HT-9 steel obtained from previous fast reactor and fusion programs are summarized along with the information of irradiated microstructure. This review can serve as a starting point for additional investigations on the in-core applications of ferritic/martensitic steels in advanced nuclear reactors.

The thermal performance of glass evacuated tube solar collectors are numerically and experimentally investigated. Four different shapes of solar collectors are considered and the performances of these solar collectors are compared. Dealing with a single collector tube, the effects of not only the shapes of the absorber tube but also the incidence angle of solar irradiation (beam irradiation) on thermal performance of the collector are studied. However, the solar irradiation consists of the beam irradiation as well as the diffuse irradiation. Also, the interference of solar irradiation and heat transfer interaction between the tubes exist in an actual solar collector, These effects are considered in this study experimentally and numerically. The accuracy of the numerical model is verified by the experimental results. The result shows that the thermal performance of the absorber used a plate fin and U-tube is the best.
Gamma irradiation was applied to red ginseng for improving its quality. Irradiation at 5~7 kGy was effective for sterilizing all contaminated microorganisms of red ginseng. At the dose levels, no significant shanges in physicochemical properties (color, saponin, lipid rancidity and fatty acids etc.) were observed even after 6 months storage. Gamma irradiation was also effective for the improving hygienic quality of packed red ginseng with high moisture content (up to 20%), without any quality deterioration.
