Concentration of Volatile Organic Compounds at Main Stream and Branch Stream of Kumho River (금호강 본류와 지류에서의 휘발성 유기화합물질 농도)

  • In this study, we investigated to measured concentration, seasonal characteristics and load quantity of volatile organic compounds(VOCs) for 11 sites in the main stream and 8 sites in the branch stream of Kumho river, during from October 1995 to April 1997. As a results, the small amount of volatile compounds, such as dichloromethane, chloroform, toluene, benzene, trichloroethene, tetrachloroethene, p-xylene and 1,3,5-trimethyl-benzene were detected from the main stream of Kumho river. Also detected to dichloromethene, chloroform, toluene, benzene, trichloroethene, tetrachloroethene, ethylbenzene, p-xylene, 1,3,5-trimethylbebzene and 1,2,4-trimethylbenzene in the branch stream, and dichloromerhane, chloroform and toluene were detected to all site of sampling. And seasonal variation of volatile organic compounds showed higher concentration in the July 1996 as a winter season than January 1997 as a summer season in most places. Also the load quantity of volatile organic compound at Gangchang site in the last downstream of Kumho river, was in order of chloroform > dichloromethane > toluene > trichloroethene.

Suppression of Eimeria tenella Sporulation by Disinfectants

  • The disinfectant effects (DEs) of 10 types of chemicals, defined by their ability to destroy or inhibit oocysts and consequently prevent sporulation of Eimeria tenella field isolate, were evaluated in vitro. Correct species assignments and sample purities were confirmed by the singular internal transcribed spacer (ITS)-PCR analysis. A total of 18 treatments were performed, and the disinfection suppression levels were 75.9% for 39% benzene + 22% xylene (1:10 dilution), 85.5% for 30% cresol soup (1:1 dilution), and 91.7% for 99.9% acetic acid (1:2 dilution) group. The results indicate that acetic acid, cresol soup, and benzene+xylene are good candidates for suppression of E. tenella oocyst sporulation.

  • 마이크로회로내에서 티탄산바륨 중 바륨의 일부가 납으로 치환됨에 따른 전기적 특 성의 변화를 확인하기 위하여 MOD(금속유기화합물 분해법)공정에 의 barum 2-ethylhexanoate, barium neodecanoate, lead 2-ethylhexanoate 및 titanium dimethoxy 야 -2-ethylhexanoate 와 같은 MOC(금속 유기화합물) 들을 합성하고 공통 용매에 대한 용해 도를 시험하였다. 그 결과 barium 2-ethylhexanoate 만 p-xylene에 대한 용해도가 낮았으며 그 외의 다른 MOC들은 모두 p-xylene 단일 용매에 매우 잘 용해되었다. 바륨의 일부가 납 으로 치환된 티탄산 납바륨 박막은 MOC 혼합용액을 ITO/glass, Pt/SiO2/Si 및 Pt/Ti/SiO2/Si 웨이퍼 기판 위에 spin coating 하고 소성하여 얻었다. 이와 같이 얻어진 박막 의 전기적 특성을 측정하고 그 결과를 비교 고찰하였다.

Multi-coated YBa2Cu3O7-x Films Fabricated by a Fluorine-Free Sol-Gel Process

  • [ $YBa_2C_3O_{7-x}$ ]films were fabricated on a $SrTiO_3$ (100) substrate using a trimethylaceate propionic acid (TMAP)-based MOD process by controlling the precursor solution viscosity, firing temperature, and by using various coatings. The viscosity of the precursor solution was controlled by the addition of Xylenes. The films were heat treated with different temperatures from 750 to $800^{\circ}C$. c-axis oriented films were obtained. After adding 9 ml of Xylene into the precursor solution, the $T_c$ of the YBCO film, which was coated 2 times and heat treated at $800^{\circ}C$, was 86 K and the measured $J_c$ was above 2.5 MA/$cm^2$ at 77 K in a zero-field.

Identification of Two-Component Regulatory Genes Involved in o-Xylene Degradation by Rhodococcus sp. Strain DK17

  • Putative genes for a two-component signal transduction system (akbS and akbT) were detected near the alkylbenzene-degrading operon of Rhodococcus sp. DK17. Sequence analysis indicates that AkbS possesses potential ATP-binding and histidine autophosphorylation sites in the N- and C-terminal regions, respectively, and that AkbT has a typical response regulator domain. Mutant analysis combined with RT-PCR experiments further shows that AkbS is required to induce the expression of o-xylene dioxygenase in DK17.

Flash Point of p-xylene and Epoxy Resins Mixtures (파라크실렌과 에폭시수지 혼합물의 인화점에 관한 연구)

  • The flash point is an important property and hazardous index of a flammable liquid. The flash points are used by virtually all the environmental, health, and safety organizations in both government and industry to classify flammable liquids for safety and transportation regulations. The basics of all flash points behavior are concerned with the vapor pressure and explosive limits. The flash points of pure components and the mixture of solvents can be calculated with the use of the laws of Raoult, Dalton and Le Chatelier. In this paper, experimentally determined lower flash points of a p-xylene and epoxy resin system were compared with the calculated values by using Raoults law. Calculated lower flash points were in reasonable agreement with the observed values.

$^{13}$C NMR Relaxation Study of Internal Rotation of Methyl Groups-Spin-Rotational Relaxation of methyl Carbon-13 in 2-bromo-p-xylene, 2,5-dimethylanisole and 2,5-dimethylaniline

  • In this work we have investigated temperature dependence of spin-rotational relaxation rate, $(1/T_1)_{SR}$, of methyl carbon-13's in 2-bromo-p-xylene, 2,5-dimethylaniline, and 2,5-dimethylanisole and have found that temperature behaviors of two methyl carbon-13's in ortho- and meta-position, respectively, are substantially different. It has been confirmed that the modified Burke-Chan model proposed by Park et al. can nicely explain different temperature dependence of $(1/T_1)_{SR}$ for these two methyl carbon-13's while the original Burke-Chan model fails to do so.
