  • This paper presents a query processing model in a wrapper based on the XML view tree. The query processing in a wrapper requires view composition, query translation into local sources, and generation of XML documents from local query results. We present a query processing model based on the view tree, where the XML views and the XML query is represented by the view tree. Since the view tree keeps the structure of a virtual XML document, it is easy to navigate the path expression. The view tree is also used as a template for schema generation and XML document generation as a query result. Moreover this conceptual uniform abstraction for the XML view and the user query makes it easy to support a multi-level XML view and to implement our composition mechanism.

  • Current studies on storing XML data are focused on either mapping XML data to existing RDBMS efficiently or developing a native XML storage. Some native XML storages store each XML node with parsed object form. Clustering, the physical arrangement of each object, can be an important factor to increase the performance with this storing method. In this paper, we propose re-clustering techniques that can store an XML document efficiently. Proposed clustering technique uses path similarities among data nodes, which can reduce page I/Os when returning query results. And proposed technique can process a path query only using small number of clusters as possible instead of using all clusters. This enables efficient processing of path query because we can reduce search space by skipping unnecessary data. Finally, we apply existing clustering techniques to store XML data and compare the performance with proposed technique. Our results show that the performance of XML storage can be improved by using a proper clustering technique.

  • Recently, caching for the database-backed web applications has received much attention. The results of frequent queries could be cached for repeated reuse or for efficient processing of the relevant queries. Since the emergence of XML as a standard for data exchange on the web, today's web applications are to retrieve information from the remote XML sources across the network, and thus it is desirable to maintain the XML query results in the cache for the web applications. In this paper, we describe implementation of an XML query processing system that supports cache-answerability of XML queries, and evaluate its performance. XML path expression, which is one of the core features of XML query languages including XQuery, XPath, and XQL was considered as the XML query. Their result is maintained as an XML materialized view in the XML cache. The algorithms to rewrite the given XML path expression using its relevant materialized view proposed in [13] were implemented with RDBMS as XML store. The major issues of implementation are described in detail. The results of performance experiments conducted with the implemented system showed effectiveness of cache-answerability of XML queries. Comparison with previous research in terms of performance is also Provided.

  • As XML is increasingly used for representing and exchanging data, relational database systems have been trying extend their features to handle XML documents XML documents can be stored in a column with XML data type like primitive types. The shredding method, which is one of the traditional methods for storing and managing XML documents in RDBMS, is still useful and viable although it has some drawbacks due to the structural discrepancy between XML and relational databases. This method may be suitable for data-centric XML documents with simple schema. This paper presents the extended version of the Association inlining method that is based on inlined shredding and compares the performance of querying processing to that of XML type method of conventional relational database systems. The experiments showed that in most cases our method resulted in better performance than the other method based on XML data type. This is due to the fact that our shredding method keeps and uses the order and path information of XML documents. The path table has the information of the corresponding table and column for each distinct path and the structure information of the XML document is extracted and stored in data tables.

  • Recently, it is necessary to process real time sensor data, which is generated from ubiquitous environments. Data, which are written by XML, are small, but, large volumes of data. Therefore, weneed to use an efficient method for processing a large amount of it. An XQuery has two types for sensor data: one is to get sensor identification and value from sensor data; the other is restructuring for user's convenience. Existing XQuery engines don't have efficient method for batch processing of sensor data. This paper proposed the twig query processing over reverse path summary, and we developed and applied restructuring batch processing method for real time processing of a large amount of sensor data. Finally, we do performance evaluation using XMark and RFID EPC data, and comparison analysis with MonetDB/XQuery and Berkeley DB XML.

  • A path query is used in XML. Several index structures have been studied for processing the path query efficiently. In recent. the index schemes using suffix tree with structure join method were proposed. ViST is the most representative method among such methods. ViST processes the query using suffix tree and uses B+-tree to reduce the search time of the documents. However, it significantly degrades the search performance when processing the path query. The reason is that it regards the element that is not ancestor-descendant relation in the document as a descendent. In this paper, we propose an efficient index structure to solve the problem of ViST. The query processing method suitable to the index structure is also proposed. It is shown through various experiments that the proposed index structure outperforms the existing index structure in terms of the query processing time.

  • Since XML is emerging as the de facto standard for exchanging and representation of data on the web, the amount of XML data has rapidly increased. Thus, the need for effective store and retrieval of U data has arisen. Since the existing techniques such as XRel which is an XML storage and management technique using RDBMS simply record the existing all label paths, diverse classes of label path expressions could not be efficiently supported. In this paper, we present a technique which supports storage and retrieval for XML data using RDBMS efficiently compared with the existing approaches. Since the proposed technique keeps the XML path index on the relational database and replace label paths with path identifiers, diverse XML queries can be evaluated compared with existing approaches. Also, the proposed technique does not require the modification of the relational database engine and consumes the disk space less. Our experimental result demonstrates the better query performance compared with existing techniques.

  • Since W3C proposed XML in 1996, XML documents have been widely spreaded in many internet documents. Because of this, needs for research related with XML is increasing. Especially, it is being well performed to study XML management system for storage, retrieval, and management with XML Documents. Among these studies, XRel is a representative study for XML management and has been become a comparative study. In this study, we suggest XML documents management system based on Relational DataBase Management System. This system is stored not all possible path expressions such as XRel, but filtered path expression which has text value or attribute value. And by giving each node Node Expression Identifier, we try to match given Node Expression Identifier. Finally, to prove efficiency of the suggested technique, this paper shows the result of experiment that compares XPath query processing performance between suggested study and existing technique, XRel.

  • Recently, due to the popularity and explosive growth of the Internet, information exchange is increasing dramatically over the Internet. Also the XML is becoming a standard as well as a major tool of data exchange on the Internet. so that in retrieving the XML document. the problem for speeding up evaluation of path-oriented queries is a main issue. In this paper, we propose a new indexing technique to advance the searching performance of path-oriented queries in document databases. In the new indexing technique, an abbreviation-path file to perform path-oriented queries efficiently is generated which is able to use its hash-code value to index keys. Also this technique can be further enhanced by combining the Extendible Hashing technique with the abbreviation path file to expedite a speed up evaluation of retrieval.

  • As XML is increasingly used, the need of researches which are related with XML in various fields is also augmented. Many XML document management systems have been actively developed especially for the storage, processing and retrieval of XML documents. The BitCube is a three dimensional bitmap index system that could be manipulated efficiently and improves the performance of document retrieval. However, the site of index is increase rapidly, when a new bit is added to the axis. This problem is caused by its three dimensional memory structure with document, path and word. We suggest a path combining strategy of XML documents in this paper to solve the problem of BitCube that mentioned above. To reduce the size of index, our approach combines sibling nodes that has same ancestor paths, and transforms word axis into value axis. The method reduces the size of index, when the system com poses the three dimensional bitmap index. It also improves the speed of retrieving, and takes efficiency in storage space.
