  • The major challenge for post-genomic study is to identify structural similarity and relationships of proteins. SCOP (Structural Classification of Proteins) is a typical database for this purpose, providing a derailed description of the structural and functional relationships of the proteins whose three-dimensional structures have been determined. Unfortunately, since the SCOP data is only available as a plain text format, it is cumbersome and error-prone to develop tools and resources to utilize the data more effectively. To meet these researchers to utilize the data more effectively. To meet these requirements, we have developed an XML representation for the SCOP site, users of the tool, named, SCOPBrowser, for effective search of SCOP database. In addition to the information available from the SCOP site, users of the tool can obtain various information such as viewing the tree hierarchy of structure classification of proteins, searching into whole protein domains, showing XML contents of a specific domain, and some useful statistics about protein structures.

  • Information retrieval systems for structured documents provide multiple levels of retrieval capability by supporting structure-based queries. In order to process structure-based queries for structured documents, information for structural nesting relationship between elements and for element sequence must be maintained. This paper presents four index structures that can process various query types about structures such as structural relationships between elements or element occurrence order. The proposed algorithms are based on the concept of Global Document Instance Tree.

  • The enterprise system is becoming more complex and larger. With the changes of the times, the system is developing to object-oriented programming method(OOP). However, the same code inserts to the core class repetitiously in the OOP, that causes a decrease in productivity and a trouble of application of another requirement. To solve this weak point, we propose a weaving mechanism what applies to metadata and crosscutting concern. For a class optimization and an integration between different languages, we take the following way. This paper uses three ways, those are, metadata generation using reflection, transformation to Abstract Syntax Tree, and mapping through crosscutting information specified XML. Through the proposed theory, class optimization can be accomplished by solving a functional decentralization and a confusion of codes.

  • The intellectual property system was very important to the past industrial society. It is so important to the 21C information age. It is a leading role to developing these information society. Not only the digital content control but the technology of software source code for the intellectual property is so much mean to international competition. On occurring disputation property, we have to prove the fact, there is a problem to discriminate the original source code. In this paper, we make a study of the digital licence prototype for discriminate the original source code. Reserved words of software source code by parsing express to XML file that have hierarchical structure. Then, we can express architecture of software source code by tree structure form instead of complex source code. And we make a study of the indexing and searching to search digital license.

  • This paper is to construction of the data mining preprocessing tool for efficient database marketing. We compare and evaluate the often used data mining tools based on the access method to local and remote databases, and on the exchange of information resources between different computers. The evaluated preprocessing of data mining tools are Answer Tree, Climentine, Enterprise Miner, Kensington, and Weka. We propose a design principle for an efficient system for data preprocessing for data mining on the distributed networks. This system is based on Java technology including EJB(Enterprise Java Beans) and XML(eXtensible Markup Language).

  • In this paper, we proposed an efficient document conversion mechanism to provide a adaptive web document to mobile terminals. We also proposed a RHTML(Reduced HTML) to archive the adaptive tag reduction. Markup error correction process in the proposed adaptive document conversion mechanism converts a HTML(HyperText Markup Language) document into a XML(Extensible Markup Language) application document. This. process makes web document easy to handle with a DOM (Document Object Mode)) as the tree model and removes the hardware overhead in mobile terminals. Also, tag reduction process provides the adaptive web document with three DTD(Document Type Definition)s in the RHTML.

  • Information retrieval systems for structured documents which are written in SGML or XML support partial retrieval of document. In order to efficiently process queries based on document structures, low memory overhead for indexing, quick response time for queries, supports to powerful types of user queries, and minimal updates of index structure for document updates are required. This paper suggests the Global Document Instance Tree(GDIT) and proposes an effective indexing scheme and query processing algorithms based on the GDIT. The indexing scheme keeps up indexing and retrieval effciency and also guarantees minimal updates of the index structure when document structures are updated.

  • This paper presents an efficient algorithm to compute difference between old and new versions of an SGML/XML document. The difference between the two versions can be considered to be an edit script that transforms some document tree into another The proposed algorithm is based on hybridization of bottom-up and top-down methods: matching relationships between nodes in the two versions are producted in a bottom-up manner and top-down breadth -first search computes an edit script. Because the algorithm does not need to investigate possible existence of matchings for all nodes, faster matching can be achieved . Furthermore, it can detect more structurally meaningful changes such as subtree move and copy as well as simple changes to the node itself like insert, delete, and update.
