We studied the molecular shapes and structural characteristics of a 33-armed, star polystyrene (PS-33A) and two $3^{rd}$-generation, dendrimer-like, star-branched poly(methyl methacrylate)s with different architectures (pMMA-G3a and PMMA-3Gb) and 32 end-branches under good solvent and theta ($\Theta$) solvent conditions by using synchrotron small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS). The SAXS analyses were used to determine the structural details of the star PS and dendrimer-like, star-branched PMMA polymers. PS-33A had a fuzzy-spherical shape, whereas PMMA-G3a and PMMA-G3b had fuzzy-ellipsoidal shapes of similar size, despite their different chemical architectures. The star PS polymer's arms were more extended than those of linear polystyrene. Furthermore, the branches of the dendrimer-like, star-branched polymers were more extended than those of the star PS polymer, despite having almost the same number of branches as PS-33A. The differences between the internal chain structures of these materials was attributed to their different chemical architectures.
Recently, the compound materials(a-Se, $HgI_2$, PbO, CdTe, $PbI_2$, etc.) that are used in flat panel x-ray imager have been studied for digital x-ray imaging. In this paper, the signal detection properties of $HgI_2$ and a-Se conversion layer, are compared. The thick $HgI_2$ film is fabricated by special particle-in-binder method and the conventional vacuum thermal evaporation is used for a deposition of a-Se film. And an electrical characteristic measurements were investigated about leakage current, signal response property and x-ray sensitivity. From the experimental results show that the $HgI_2$ film has a low operation voltage and high signal generation than that of a-Se.
Bubbles are generated by the boiling of the cooling water when an accident occurs in the reactor and then in order to measure the void fraction, the Optical Fiber Probe(OFP) and optical camera are used in thermal hydraulic safety research. However, such an optical method is not suitable for measuring the void fraction in a $17{\times}17$ array of fuel rods due to the geometrical limitations. This study was conducted as a preliminary study using x-ray system and various phantoms before applying to rod bundles. Through radiographic and tomographic experiments, the tube voltage of the x-ray generator was 130 kVp and the tube current was 1 mA. In addition, it is possible to measure the hole of 1mm in size visually through the bubble resolution phantom, and it is confirmed that the contrast is relatively decreased in the inside of the freon in the case of the contrast evaluation using the road phantom. However, we could obtain good image without distortion when reconstructing the image. Bubble generation phantom experiments were used to confirm the flow direction of the bubbles and to acquire tomography images. The image J tool was used to measure the void fraction of 18 % for a single tomography image. This study has carried out previous researches for the measurement of the bubble rate around the nuclear fuel and could be used as a basic research for continuous research.
In the total knee arthroplasty (TKA), kinematic benefic of a mobile-bearing total knee prosthesis is still arguing. Main reasons for implant failure are loosening and polyethylene wear and should be solved with new designs with mob ile bearings. The kinematics of the knee prosthesis also affects the implant failure. Recently, a second generation of p rostheses with a mobile-bearing was developed. The current study aimed to assess the kinematic path of the 2nd generation mobile knee prosthesis compared to the normal knees. Using 3D/2D registration method, CT-derived 3D knee models were fitted to sequential 2D X-ray images during knee flexion. 3D kinematics of the femur and the tibia were analyzed. The 2nd generation mobile-bearing TKA prosthesis (e.motion, Aesculap, Germany) knees showed less external rotation and knee flexion range compared to the normal knee, but the trend of external rotation was similar each other.

In this work, SUS310S used for valve plate assembly was electron beam (EB) welded to determine the influence of the parametric conditions on the characteristics of the weld and to minimize porosity and micro-fissures among others. The evolution in the weld geometry and microstructure was examined as a function of the process conditions such as beam current and focusing current under a constant welding speed and accelerating voltage. The integrity of the EB welds in SUS310S was examined for defects (e.g. cracking, porosity, etc.), adequate penetration depth, and tolerable weld width deviation for the various welding conditions. Optical microscopy (OM), x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and 3D micro-computed tomography (Micro-CT) for the cross section analysis of the electron beam welded SUS310S were utilized. The tensile strength and hardness were analyzed for the mechanical properties of the EB weld. At the 6 kV accelerating voltage, it was determined that a satisfactory penetration depth and desirable weld width deviation requires a beam current of 30 mA and a focusing current of 0.687 A at the welding speed of 25 mm/sec.
The purpose of this study is to prevent infection in the hospital by computed radiography portable and to provide basic data on infection-related education by investigating bacterial contamination level of computed radiography portable equipment using IP cassette. The results suggest that IP cassette No. 1 is infected with CNS and VRE, no. 2 with CNS, No. 3 with CNS and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, No. 4 with CNS, No. 5 with CNS and Bacillus sp., and No. 6 with enterococcus faecium. Enterococcus faecium and bacillus sp. were detected from the IP reader and Acinetobacter baumannii was detected on the mobile handle; Bacillus sp. on the control buttons, CNS and Bacillus sp. from the irradiation control handle, Acinetobacter baumannii on the x-ray generation switch, and CNS on the barcode scanner. In addition, Bacillus sp. Acinetobacter baumannii was found on the IP cassette mobile table and CNS and bacillus sp. were found on the lead apron. Acinetobacter baumannii and CNS were detected from the medical gloves worn by a radiological technologist during radiography. This suggests that IP cassette should be sterilized after use as it can hand over bacteria to IP reader and IP mobile table. Medical gloves that are in direct contact with patients should also be replaced after using them once and other supplies such as x-ray generation switch and lead apron should thoroughly be sterilized to prevent infection due to radiography as they are in a lot of contact with patients.

Resistive RAM (ReRAM) is a strong candidate for the next-generation nonvolatile memories which use the resistive switching characteristic of transition metal oxides. The resistive switching behaviors originate from the redistribution of oxygen vacancies inside of the oxide film by applied programming voltage. Therefore, controlling the oxygen vacancy inside transition metal oxide film is most important to obtain and control the resistive switching characteristic. In this study, we introduced an applying electric field into photochemical metal-organic deposition (PMOD) process to control the oxidation state of metal oxide thin film during the photochemical reaction by UV exposure. As a result, the surface oxidation state of FeOx film could be successfully controlled by the electric field-assisted PMOD (EFAPMOD), and the controlled oxidation states were confirmed by x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) I-V characteristic. And the resistive switching characteristics with the oxidation-state of the surface region could be controlled effectively by adjusting an electric field during EFAPMOD process.
Hydrogen and hydrogen energy have been recognized as clean energy sources and high energy carrier. Mg and Mg alloys are attractive hydrogen storage materials because of their lightweight and low cost materials with high hydrogen capacity (about 7.6 wt.%). However, the commercial applications of the Mg hydrides are currently hinder by its high absorption/desorption temperature, and very slow reaction kinetics. However, Ti and Ti based hydrogen storage alloys have been thought to be the third generation of alloys with a high hydrogen capacity, which makes it difficult to handle because of high reactivity. One of the most methods to develope kinetics was addition of transition metal. Therefore, Mg-Ti-Cr-Nb alloy was fabricated to add TiCrNb by hydrogen induced mechanical alloying. TiCrNb systems have included transition metals, low operating temperatures and hydrogen storage materials. As-received specimens were characterized using X-ray Diffraction analysis (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Thermo Gravimetric analysis/Differential Scanning Calorimetry (TG/DSC). $Mg-TiCr_{10}Nb$ systems were evaluated for hydrogen kinetics by Sievert's type Pressure-Composition-Isotherm (PCI) equipment. The operating temperature range was 473, 523, 573 and 623 K.
This research was performed to investigate the morphological changes of folliculus ovary according to the radiation dose. The whole body radiation of 200 cGy, 400 cGy, and 600 cGy was given to the each groups of 5 months-aged female mouse. Various staining methods used in this research are: Hematosylin-Eosin method, and immunohistochemistrical methods using BrdU, TUNEL, p53, p21, PCNA and inhibin. The minute structural changes of folliculus ovary were observed through an electron microscope with high magnification. The morphological changes of growing folliculus ovary became distinct as the dose of X-rays increased. Especially, the nuclei of granular cells showed manifest condensation and the changes of the transparent zone were distinct. As a result of histochemical reaction according to Masson's trichrome method and reticular fiber method, the changed granular cells, the deformed basilar membrane of folliculus ovary and the abnormal arrangement of the reticular fiber were observed. In the reaction of BrdU, the granular cells of normal folliculus ovary with positive reaction rapidly decreased according to the increase of the dose of X-rays. In TUNEL study, granular cells showing positive reaction in retarded folliculus ovary were expanded to growing folliculus ovary and primordial folliculus ovary according to the increase of the dose of X-rays. In case of 600 cGy of X-rays, oocyte underwent apoptosis. In p53 immunohistochemistry, p53 manifested to be stronger as the dose of X-rays increased. p53 reactivity was manifested distinctively in all cells comprising folliculus ovary following irradiation of 600 cGy. p21 was manifested in granular cells of folliculus ovary and showed very positive reaction around follicular antrum according to the increase of the dose of X-rays. In PCNA, positive reaction was manifested in growing folliculus ovary, mature folliculus ovary and primordial folliculus ovary, but the extent of the reaction decreased as the dose of the X-rays decreased. The finding that the reaction of granular cells around folliculus ovary was stronger than that near follicular membrane indicates that what was damaged first by X-ray was the cells near folliculus ovary and follicular antrum. The reactivity of $inhibin-{\alpha}$ showed difference according to the growing stage of folliculus ovary: $inhibin-{\alpha}$ showed the most strong reaction in mature folliculus ovary with follicular antrum. There was strong reaction in granular cells around follicular membrane but $inhibin-{\alpha}$ did not occur at all in theca cells comprising follicular membrane. $Inhibin-{\alpha}$ in ovary tissue exposed to 400 cGy of X-rays was manifested more strongly than in ovary tissue exposed to 600 cGy of X-rays, which was related to the phenomenon that granular cells of mature folliculus ovary underwent necrosis or apoptosis increasingly due to X-rays. In an electron microscope with high magnification, nuclei and protoplasm of granular cells in growing folliculus ovary abruptly underwent minute structural changes according to the increase of dose of X-rays. Cell residue, by-product of cell decease, neutrophil and macrophage around follicular antrum were observed. The minute structural changes in granular cells showed typical characteristics of apoptosis: the increase of electronic density due to nuclear condensation, fragmentation of nuclei and atrophy of protoplasm. Necrosis of cells was identified but it was not so remarkable. Macrophage with apoptotic bodies was scattered. Proportional to the radiation dose, we found that the generation of heterogeneous substance of normal ovary texture's follicular fluid, the emergence of dyeing characteristic in the basilar membrane of folicle, the generation of apoptosis, and the transformation of macrophages, etc. From this results, we can infer the possible radiation hazard on the ovary of cervix cancer patient with radiation therapy.

Primary water stress corrosion cracking has occurred in dissimilar weld areas in nuclear power plants. Residual stress is a driving force in the crack. Residual stress may be generated by weld or surface machining. Residual stress due to surface machining depends on the machining method, e.g., milling, grinding, or EDM. The stress is usually distributed on or near the surface of the material. We present the measured residual stress for machining on SA 508 and austenitic stainless steels such as TP304 and F316. The residual stress can be tensile or compressive depending on the machining method. The depth and the magnitude of the residual stress depend on the material and the machining method.
