  • In order to study the X-ray radiations from solar type strong interacting binary stars, we have collected X-ray data of 44i Bootis (P=0.2678 days, SP=G2+G2) from the EXOSAT data archive. Preliminarly analysis of a part of these data has been already reported by Vilhu & Heise (1986). In this paper, however, we present a more complete light curve in LE region than the previous work, and some unpublished X-ray light curves and spectrums. Using these new materials a new attempt to find the physical explanation about. some observational characteristic figures in the X-ray light curves and spectrums has been made.

  • We report on our Galactic plane searches for magnetars in the archival Chandra X-ray Observatory (CXO) data. We summarize the properties of known magnetars and use them to establish a procedure for magnetar searches. The procedure includes four steps: source finding, spectral characterization, optical counterpart checks, and period searches. We searched 1,282 archival CXO observations, found 32,838 X-ray sources, and selected 25 intriguing candidates using the developed procedure. Although we do not firmly identify a magnetar among them, we significantly reduced the number of targets in future magnetar searches to be done with better X-ray telescopes.

  • We performed the cross-correlation analysis on energy-dependent light curves of the Z-type source GX 5-1. We observed X-ray delays of a few hundred seconds between hard (16-30 keV) and soft (2-5 keV) X-ray light curves. During these phenomena, the centroid frequency of horizontal branch oscillation (HBO) was found to shift to lower or higher frequency indicating towards the dynamical movement of a Compton cloud or an inner disk front. Both eastern and western approaches were used to unfold the X-ray continuum and systematic changes were observed in soft and hard X-ray spectral components. Simultaneous energy spectral and power density spectral study shows that the production of HBOs is closely related to the Comptonizing region rather than the accretion disk. We discuss the results in the context of re-condensation of coronal material in the inner accretion disk region.

  • Park, Gott, & Choi (2008) found that when a galaxy is located within the virial radius from its closest neighbor and the neighbor is an elliptical, the probability of the galaxy to be an elliptical is very sensitive to the large-scale background density over a few Mpc scales. They suggested that the large-scale dependence can be arise if the temperature of a diffuse hot gas held by elliptical galaxies are higher in higher density environment. In this study, to understand the large-scale environment affects the X-ray properties of individual galaxies, we investigated the dependence of the X-ray luminosities of the elliptical galaxies on the large-scale environment using X-ray and optical data which we selected from the ROSAT All-Sky Survey and the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release 7. To exclude galaxies embedded in an intra-group/cluster medium which could enhance their observed X-ray luminosity, we used isolated elliptical galaxies.

  • The spreading tube of X-ray cathode tube displayed with an electromagnetic finite element method was designed. To analyze a feature design and the concrete coordinate performance of soft X-ray tube modeling, the orbit of electron beam was simulated by OPERA-3D SW program. The fixed conditions were the applied voltage, the temperature, the work function of thermal electron between cathode and anode of tungsten. Through the analysis of distribution of electron beam and the variation of dividing region, the design of soft X-ray spreading tube equipped with two cross filaments was optimized.

  • Seed viability testing provides valuable information for assessing seed lot germinability. However, most testing methods require destruction of seed prior to test. Because the dissected seeds for viability test cannot be used further evaluation, the nondestructively X-ray photography technique that can be applied for the evaluation of seed quality has been developed. In order to know the validity and accuracy of X-ray photography technique in seed evaluation test that conducted to remove the abnormal seed from a seed lot, we have compared the results from tetrazolium viability test, germination test and X-ray contrast method in cotton. Metallic salts treatment increased the efficiency of X-ray photographic method by enhancing the penetration of X-ray in abnormal or damaged seeds rather than normal seeds that have strong and well-organized tissues in seed. Cotton seeds presoaked for 16 hr in distilled water followed by soaking into metallic salt solution (5% NaI in water) for 60 min were easily classified seeds into dead seed and viable seed based on the radiography images obtained by X-ray radiation. We concluded that soft X-ray photography was reliable to find out the various defective characters due to heat and mechanical damage of seeds.

  • Objective : This study was designed to analyze the of correlation between narrowing disc space of lumbar X-ray and HIVD of L-spine CT in lumbosacral strain patients. Methods : 63 cases of lumbosacral strain patients who visited Bul-kyooh Oriental Hospital from June 13, 2000 to August 9, 2001 were selected. We performed the radiography by lumbar X-ray and L-spine CT for all cases. Results : 28 of 63 cases revealed narrowing disc space in Lumbar X-ray and these 28 cases were diagnosed as HIVD in L-spine CT at all. 35 of 63 cases revealed normal in Lumbar X-ray and 13 of these 35 cases were diagnosed as HIVD in L-spine CT. Conclusions : We found that narrowing disc space in lumbar X-ray has significant relevance to HIVD in L-spine CT(P-value = 0.001). For accurate diagnosis and treatment of lumbosacral strain patients. combination of clinical symptoms, physical examination and radiography of X-ray and HIVD is needed.
