  • Transparent conducting undoped and Al impurity doped ZnO films were deposited on glass substrate by spin coat technique using 24 days aged ZnO precursor solution with solution of ethanol and diethanolamine. The films were characterized by UV-Visible spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), electrical resistivity ($\rho$), carrier concentration (n), and hall mobility ($\mu$) measurements. XRD data show that the deposited film shows polycrystalline nature with hexagonal wurtzite structure with preferential orientation along (002) crystal plane. The SEM images show that surface morphology, porosity and grain sizes are affected by doping concentration. The Al doped samples show high transmittance and better resistivity. With increasing Al concentration only mild change in optical band gap is observed. Optical properties are not affected by aging of parent solution. A lowest resistivity ($8.5 \times 10^{-2}$ ohm cm) is observed at 2 atomic percent (at.%) Al. With further increase in Al concentration, the resistivity started to increase significantly. The decrease resistivity with increasing Al concentration can be attributed to increase in both carrier concentration and hall mobility.

  • $Mn_3O_4$/multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) composites are prepared by chemically synthesizing $Mn_3O_4$ nanoparticles on a MWCNT film at room temperature. Structural and morphological characterization has been carried out using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning and transmission electron microscopies (SEM and TEM). These reveal that polycrystalline $Mn_3O_4$ nanoparticles, with sizes of about 10-20 nm, aggregate to form larger nanoparticles (50-200 nm), and the $Mn_3O_4$ nanoparticles are attached inhomogeneously on MWCNTs. The electrochemical behavior of the composites is analyzed by cyclic voltammetry experiment. The $Mn_3O_4$/MWCNT composite exhibits a specific capacitance of $257Fg^{-1}$ at a scan rate of $5mVs^{-1}$, which is about 3.5 times higher than that of the pure $Mn_3O_4$. Cycle-life tests show that the specific capacitance of the $Mn_3O_4$/MWCNT composite is stable up to 1000 cycles with about 85% capacitance retention, which is better than the pure $Mn_3O_4$ electrode. The improved supercapacitive performance of the $Mn_3O_4$/MWCNT composite electrode can be attributed to the synergistic effects of the $Mn_3O_4$ nanoparticles and the MWCNTs, which arises not only from the combination of pseudocapacitance from $Mn_3O_4$ nanoparticles and electric double layer capacitance from the MWCNTs but also from the increased surface area, pore volume and conducting property of the MWCNT network.

  • The effects of sulfate reducing bacteria (SRB) on the corrosion and scaling of the Q235 carbon steel has been investigated in the simulated sewage water and oil field gathering pipelines production water, using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive x-ray spectrometry (EDS), and three-dimensional stereoscopic microscope. Results indicated that the concentration of SRB reached the maximum value on the ninth day in simulated sewage water with a large amount of scaling on the surface of specimen. In oil field gathering pipelines, a large amount of scaling and mineralization of mineral salts and thick deposition of extracellular polymeric substance (EPS) layers were also observed on the surface of specimen. The thickness of biofilm was about $245{\mu}m$ within 30 days. After adding microbicides, the thickness of corrosion products film was only up to $48-106{\mu}m$ within 30 days, suggesting that SRB could induce biomineralization. Under-deposit corrosion morphology was uniform in the absence of microbicides while local corrosion was observed in the presence of microbicides.

  • Polyimide (PI) multilayer thin films were prepared by spin-coating from a poly(amic acid) (PAA) and poly(amic acid) ammonium salt (PAAS). PI was prepared from pyromellitic dianhydride (PMDA) and 4,4'-oxydianiline (ODA) PAA. Different compositions of PAAS were prepared by incorporating triethylamine (TEA) into PMDA-ODA PAA in dimethylacetamide. PI multilayer thin films were spin-coated from PMDA-ODA PAA and PAAS. The PAAS comprising cationic and anionic moieties were spherical with a particle size of $20{\sim}40\;nm$. Some particles showed layers with ammonium salts, despite poor ordering. Too much salt obstructed the interaction between the polymer chains and caused phase separation. A small amount of salt did not affect the interactions of the interlayer structure but did interrupt the stacking between chains. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) showed that the average decomposition temperature of the thin films was $611^{\circ}C$. All the films showed almost single-step, thermal decomposition behavior. The nanostructure of the multilayer thin films was confirmed by X -ray reflectivity (XRR). The LF 43 film, which was prepared with a 4:3 molar ratio of PMDA and ODA, was comprised of uniformly spherical PAAS particles that influenced the nanostructure of the interlayer by increasing the interaction forces. This result was supported by the atomic force microscopy (AFM) data. It was concluded that the relationship between the uniformity of the PAAS particle shapes and the interaction between the layers affected the optical and thermal properties of PI layered films.

  • Nitrogen doped Ge-Sb-Te (N-GST) thin films for phase change random access memory (PRAM) applications were investigated by synchrotron-radiation-based x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and absorption spectroscopy. Nitrogen doping in GST resulted in more favorable N atoms' bonding with Ge atoms rather than with Sb and Te atoms [1,2], which explains the higher phase change transition temperature than that of undoped Ge-Sb-Te thin film. Surprisingly, it was noticed that N atoms also existed in the form of molecular nitrogen, $N_2$, which is detrimental to the stability of the GST performance [3]. N-doped GST experimental features were also supported by ab-initio molecular dynamic calculations [2]. References [1] M.-C. Jung, Y. M. Lee, H.-D. Kim, M. G. Kim, and H. J. Shin, K. H. Kim, S. A. • For the evaluation of nucleation and growth behaviors influenced by substrate properties, such as surface energy, structure and electrical properties, chromium nitride films (CrN) were deposited on various substrates (glass, AISI 1040 steel and Si (110) by unbalanced magnetron sputtering. X-ray diffraction and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) were used to study the microstructure and grain growth as a function of deposition time. The diffraction patterns of CrN thin films deposited on Si (110) exhibited crystalline structure with highly preferred orientation of (200) plane parallel to the substrate, whereas the films deposited on glass and AISI 1040 exhibited preferred orientations (200) and minor orientation (111), (311) or (220) plane. The orientation of films deposited both on glass and Si substrates did not depend on the bias voltage (Vs). The grain growth and structure of film deposited on AISI 1040 steel substrate are strongly influenced by the substrate bias in comparison with that deposited onto glass and Si substrates. The differences in the structure and grain growth of CrN films deposited onto different substrates are predominantly related to the properties of the substrate (structure and electrical conductivity).

  • In this paper, the optimized growing conditions of PZT thin films on low temperature co-fired ceramics (LTCC) substrates are studied. The LTCC technology is an emerging one in the fields of mesoscale (from 10 um to several hundred um) sensor and actuator against silicon based technology due to low cost, high yield, easy manufacturing of 3 dimensional structure, etc. The LTCC substrates with thickness of 400 um are fabricated by laminating 100 um green sheets using commercial power (NEG, MLS 22C). The Pt/Ti bottom electrodes are deposited on the LTCC substrates, then the growing conditions of PZT thin films using rf magnetron sputtering method are studied. The growing conditions are tested under various rf power and gas ratio of oxygen to argon. And the crystallization and ingredient of PZT films are analyzed by X-ray diffraction method (XRD) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). The optimized growing conditions of PZT thin films are rf power of 125W, Ar/O2 gas ratio of 15:5.

  • The steel-tube is exposed to a radiation from X-ray source. The transmitted radiation is detected by a detector, usually film or more recently an imaging plate(IP) of Computed Radiography(CR). The detected radiation overlaps the region of both sides of the object. The radiographic images reflect the projections of the rays, passing twice through both external and internal tube material. Nonlinear distortion due to the radioactive transmission and geometric disposition also appears on images. In this paper, an analytical approach is presented to achieve image reconstruction from the steel-tube CR images. Parameters related to radiation and measuring structure, such as intensities, absorption in material and geometric specifications linked with the collimating components, are calculated and identified in order to construct the renoval images for twofold regions of circle-type steel tubes. A correction procedure for region recovery most similar to the true tube is designed. The application of this approach on CR images is shown and reconstructed results are discussed.

  • Purpose: The objective of this study was to define the Os submalleolare as an any ossicles below medial malleolus of tibia and to determine the characteristics of clinical and radiological characteristics and to evaluate results of surgical treatment of Os submalleolare in sports player group. Materials and Methods: Twenty-two patients with Os submalleolare were identified between November, 1, 1998 and June, 30, 2002. Results: The mean age was 18.3 years. All patient were male and soccer players comprised 71%(20 cases). Associated disease were 8 cases(29%) of chronic ankle instabilities, one case(4%) of anterior impingement syndrome and one (4%) of plantar fascitis. The most common clinical symptom was pain during walking and sports activity and sign was tenderness around medial malleolus. Only simple radiograph could reveal presence of ossicle and differentiate with acute fracture. If symptom and sign obscured, Bone scan(7 cases) and MRI(3 cases) identify causes of pain and tenderness. As a surgical treatment, all bony fragment caused symptom and sign were eliminated and medial collateral ligament was reattached meticulously. Associated chronic ankle instability were present, modified Brostrom procedure was done simultaneously. On follow-up, The symptomatic pain were wholly disappeared at average 2.2 months (1-6months) after operation. On one year follow-up, all patients have been daily life without any complaints and have gone back to the game within three months. Conclusion: as submalleolare have relatively rare incidence in sports players and most common clinical symptom and sign is tenderness on medial malleolar area of ankle, can be diagnosed both physical examination and plain X-ray film. As a treatment, Removal of ossicle and reattachment of MCL could obtain excellent or good results.

  • This study is focusing on the improvement of problems of Ti-6Al-4V alloy. A new Ti based alloy, Ti-15Sn-4Nb, have designed to examine any possibility of improving the mechanical properties and biocompatibility. Specimens of Ti alloys were melted in vacuum arc furnace and homogenized at $100^{\circ}C$ for 24h. All specimens were solution treated at $812^{\circ}C$ and aged at $500^{\circ}C$ for 10h. The corrosion resistance of Ti alloys was evaluated by potentiodynamic polarization test and immersion test inl%Lactic acid solutions. Ti-15Sn-4Nb system alloys showed Widmanstatten microstructure after solution treatment which is typical microstructure of ${\alpha}+{\beta}$ type Ti alloys. Analysing the corrosion resistance of Ti alloys, it was concluded that the passive films of Ti-15Sn-4Nb system alloys are more stable than that of Ti-6Al-4V alloys. Also, the corrosion resistance of Ti-15Sn-4Nb system alloys was improved with adding elements, Hf. It was analysed that the passive film of the Ti-15Sn-4Nb alloy which was formed in air atmosphere was consisted of TiO2, SnO and NbO through X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) analysis.
