  • In order to analyze the effect of maleic anhydride (MAH) content and styrene monomer (SM)/MAH mole ratio on reactive extrusion of maleic anhydride grafted random polypropylenes (MAH-g-rPP), MAH-g-rPPs were prepared by using a twin screw extruder. MAH contents were 0.5, 1.0, 3.0, and 5.0 phr and SM/initiator mole ratio was 0.0, 1.0, and 2.0. Dicumyl peroxide (DCP) was used as an initiator. The graft degree of MAH was confirmed by the existence of carbonyl group (C = O) stretching peak at $1700cm^{-1}$ from FT-IR spectrum. The degree of graft reaction increased up to 3.0 phr MAH and showed the optimum value at 1.0 SM/MAH mole ratio from the area ratio of C = O and C-H stretching peak. Thermal and crystallization properties of MAH-g-rPP and PP/MAH-g-rPP/pulp composites were investigated by DSC, TGA, XRD, and POM. There was a decrease in non-isothermal crystallization temperature of PP/MAH-g-PP/pulp composites. Based on tensile properties and SEM pictures for the fractured surface of PP/MAH-g-PP/pulp composites, MAH content of 1.0 wt% and SM/MAH mole ratio of 1.0 were the optimum formulation as the compatibilizer. The rheological properties of the composites were measured by dynamic Rheometer to compare the processability of the composites with and without compatibilizer. The power law index showed slightly low value at the composites with compatibilizer.

  • The aim of this study was to compare the length between the mesio-buccal and mesio-lingual canal of the mandibular molars before and after early coronal flaring at the different measuring time using several electronic apex locators. Fifty mandibular molars with complete apical formation and patent foramens were selected. After establishing the initial working length of the buccal and lingual canal of the mesial root using a surgical microscope (Carl Zeiss Co Germany) at 25X with #15 K-fle tip just visible at the foramen, radiographs were taken for the working length. After measuring the length of mesio-buccal and mesio-lingual canal (control group), the electronic lengths were measured at different times using several electronic apex locators (experimental groups; I-Root ZX, II-Bingo, III-Propex, IV-Diagnostic). After early coronal flaring using the $K^3$ file, the additional electronic lengths were measured using the same manner The results were as follows: One canal has a correct working length for the mesial root of the mandibular molar, it can be used effectively for measuring the electronic working length of another canal when the files are superimposed or encountered at the apex. In addition, the accuracy of the electronic apex locators was increased as the measurement was accomplished after the early coronal flaring of the root canal and the measuring time was repeated.

  • The positions of Xe atoms encapsulated in the molecular-dimensioned cavities of fully dehydrated Na-A have been determined. Na-A was exposed to 1050atm of xenon gas at 400 $^{\circ}C$ for seven days, followed by cooling at pressure to encapsulate Xe atoms. The resulting crystal structure of Na-A(7Xe) (a = 12.249(1) $\AA$, $R_1$ = 0.065, and $R_2$ = 0.066) were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction techniques in the cubic space group Pm3m at 21(1) $^{\circ}C$ and 1 atm. In the crystal structure of Na-A(7Xe), seven Xe atoms per unit cell are distributed over four crystallographically distinct positions: one Xe atom at Xe(1) lies at the center of the sodalite unit, two Xe atoms at Xe(4) are found opposite four-rings in the large cavity, and four Xe atoms, two at Xe(2) and others at Xe(3), respectively, occupy positions opposite and between eight- and six-rings in the large cavity. Relatively strong interactions of Xe atoms at Xe(2) and Xe(3) with $Na^+$ ions of four-, eight-, and six-rings are observed:Na(1)-Xe(2) = 3.09(6), Na(2)-Xe(3) = 3.11(2), and Na(3)-Xe(2) = 3.37(8) $\AA$. In each sodalite unit, one Xe atom is located at its center. In each large cavity, six Xe atoms are found, forming a distorted octahedral arrangement with four Xe atoms, at equatorial positions (each two at Xe(2) and Xe(3)) and the other two at axial positions (at Xe(4)). With various reasonable distances and angles, the existence of $(Xe)_6$ cluster is proposed (Xe(2)-Xe(3) = 4.78(6) and 4.94(7), Xe(2)-Xe(4) = 4.71(6) and 5.06(6), Xe(3)-Xe(4) = 4.11(3) and 5.32(4) $\AA$, Xe(2)-Xe(3)-Xe(2) = 93(1), Xe(3)-Xe(2)-Xe(3) = 87(1), Xe(2)-Xe(4)-Xe(2) = 91(4), Xe(2)-Xe(4)-Xe(3) = 55(2), 59(1), 61(1), and 68(1), and Xe(3)-Xe(4)-Xe(3) = 89($^{\circ}1$)). These arrangements of the encapsulated Xe atoms in the large cavity are stabilized by alternating dipoles induced on Xe(2), Xe(3), and Xe(4) by eight- and six-ring $Na^+$ ions as well as four-ring oxygens, respectively.

  • This study aimed to verify the effects of estrogen on the onset and development of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis and the mechanisms associated with these effects by constructing a pubescent bipedal rat model. Experiments were conducted to investigate whether scoliosis progression was prevented by a Triptorelin treatment. One hundred twenty bipedal rats were divided into female, OVX (ovariectomy), OVX + E2, Triptorelin, sham, and male groups. According to a spinal radiographic analysis, the scoliosis rates and curve severity of the female and OVX + E2 groups were higher than those in the OVX, Triptorelin, and male groups. The measurements obtained from the sagittal plane of thoracic vertebrae CT confirmed a relatively slower growth of the anterior elements and a faster growth of the posterior elements between T11 and T13 in the female and OVX + E2 groups than in the OVX and Triptorelin groups. Histomorphometry and immunohistochemistry revealed a significantly longer hypertrophic zone of the vertebral cartilage growth plates that expressed more type X collagen and less type II collagen in the OVX and Triptorelin groups than in the female and OVX + E2 groups. Ki67 immunostaining confirmed an increase in the proliferation of vertebral growth plate chondrocytes in the OVX group compared with the female and OVX + E2 groups. In conclusion, estrogen obviously increased the incidence of scoliosis and curve severity in pubescent bipedal rats. The underlying mechanism may be a loss of coupling of the endochondral ossification between the anterior and posterior columns. Triptorelin decreased the incidence of scoliosis and curve magnitudes in bipedal female rats.

  • This study was conducted to examine genetic variation on leaf characteristics of Machilus thunbergii populations. Ten populations were subjected to multivariate analysis for 9 characteristics of leaf morphology. Average length of leaf blade, leaf width, petiole length, vein number were 9.8cm, 4.0cm, 1.8cm, 8.4 respectively, while angle of leaf base and leaf apex were $67.9^{\circ}$ and $78^{\circ}$ respectively. The coefficient of variation (C.V.) on leaf characteristics was 20% which indicate similar features among the populations. Nested analysis showed statistically signigicant differences among populations as well as among individuals within populations. Genetic relationship between populations using complete linkage method showed four groups to Euclidean distance 1.2 and did not show a tendency to cluster into the same group. There were three principal components that had a meaningful eigenvalue over 1.0 among the 9 components. The explanatory power of the top three main components on the total variation was 92.8%. The first principal component (PC) was explained about 40.3% which is mainly correlated with maximum leaf width and the second PC was explained about 28.7% which is correlated with leaf blade length. The third PC was explained about 23.8% which is correlated with petiole length ($X_3$). These characters were important factors for analysis of the relationship among natural populations of M. thunbergii.

  • The purpose of this study is to classify the old into the old people as Young-old(Age 65-74) and Old-old(Older than 75) Elderly in Korea and is to check the factors influencing on the suicidal ideation based on eco-system approach. For the research data, the survey data of actual condition of the old people in 2014 was used. The samples of analysis in this study are the Young-old people who have spouse Old-old people, which are in total 6, 201. In order to check the characteristics of suicidal ideation of the Young-old people and Old-old people, Chi-square analysis was implemented and binomial logistic regression analysis was conducted to check the influencing factors of suicidal Ideation of Young-old and Old-old Elderly. As a result of analysis, there were significant difference in the factors influencing on suicidal ideation of the Young-old people and the Old-old people. The variables in terms of the sociology of population among personal system factors have affected more to the suicidal ideation of Old-old people than the Young-old people. Variables in terms of health have influenced on the Old-old people and the variables in terms of economy have significantly affected to the Young-old people. It has been suggested that the conflict of conjugality and marital conflict affect to the suicidal ideation of Young- old people however it has been appeared that the Old-old people are significantly affected not only by the conjugality but also by the relationship with children. In order to reduce the suicidal ideation of the old people, the customized approach per group of the old people has been presented.

  • The positions of Kr atoms encapsulated in the molecular-dimensioned cavities of fully dehydrated zeolite A of unit-cell composition Cs3Na8HSi12Al12O48 (Cs3-A) have been determined. Cs3-A was exposed to 1025 atm of krypton gas at 400 $^{\circ}C$ for four days, followed by cooling at pressure to encapsulate Kr atoms. The resulting crystal structure of Cs3-A(6Kr) (a = $12.247(2)\AA$, R1 = 0.078, and R2 = 0.085) has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction techniques in the cubic space group Pm3m at $21(1)^{\circ}C$ and 1 atm. In the crystal structure of Cs3-A(6Kr), six Kr atoms per unit cell are distributed over three crystallographically distinct positions: each unit cell contains one Kr atom at Kr(1) on a threefold axis in the sodalite unit, three at Kr(2) opposite four-rings in the large cavity, and two at Kr(3) on threefold axes in the large cavity. Relatively strong interactions of Kr atoms at Kr(1) and Kr(3) with Na+ ions of six-rings are observed: Na-Kr(1) = 3.6(1) $\AA$ and Na-Kr(3) = $3.08(5)\AA.$ In each sodalite unit, one Kr atom at Kr(1) was displaced $0.74\AA$ from the center of the sodalite unit toward a Na+ ion, where it can be polarized by the electrostatic field of the zeolite, avoiding the center of the sodalite unit which by symmetry has no electrostatic field. In each large cavity, five Kr atoms were found, forming a trigonal-bipyramid arrangement with three Kr(2) atoms at equatorial positions and two Kr(3) atoms at axial positions. With various reasonable distances and angles, the existence of Kr5 cluster was proposed (Kr(2)-Kr(3) = $4.78(6)\AA$ and Kr(2)-Kr(2) = $5.94(7)\AA$, Kr(2)-Kr(3)-Kr(2) = 76.9(3), Kr(3)-Kr(2)-Kr(3) = 88(1), and Kr(2)-Kr(2)-Kr(2) = $60^{\circ}).$ These arrangements of the encapsulated Kr atoms in the large cavity are stabilized by alternating dipoles induced on Kr(2) by four-ring oxygens and Kr(3) by six-ring Na+ ions, respectively.

  • The crystal structure of dehydrated $Ag_{5.6}K_{6.4}-A$, zeolite A ion-exchanged with $K^+\;and\;Ag^+$ as indicated and dehydrated at 360$^{\circ}$C, has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. Also determined were the structures of the products of the reactions of this zeolite with 0.1 Torr of Cs vapor at 250$^{\circ}$C for 48 h and 72 h, and with 0.1 Torr of Rb vapor at 250$^{\circ}$C for 24 h. The structures were solved and refined in the cubic space group Pm3m at 21(l)$^{\circ}$C (a= 12.255(l) ${\AA}$ , 12.367(l) ${\AA}$, 12.350(l) ${\AA}$, and 12.263(l) ${\AA}$, respectively). Dehydrated $Ag_{5.6}K_{6.4}$-A was refined to the final error indices $R_1= 0.044\;and\;R_2=0.037$ with 202 reflections for which I>3${\sigma}$(I). The crystal structures of the reaction products were refined to $R_1=0.087\;and\;R_2= 0.089$ with 157 reflections, $R_1=0.080\;and\;R_2= 0.087$ with 161 reflections, and $R_1= 0.071\;and\;R_2=0.061$ with 88 reflections, respectively. In the structure of $Ag_{5.6}K_{6.4}-A,\;K^+$ ions block all 8-oxygen rings, and one reduced Ag atom is found per sodalite cavity. Also, ca. 4.6 $Ag^+ ions\;and\;3.4 K^+ ions$ are found at 6-ring sites in the large cavity. The crystal structures of the reaction products show that all $K^+$ and $Ag^+$ ions have been reduced, and that all K^+$ atoms have left the zeolite. Cs or Rb species are found at three different crystallographic sites: 3.0 $Cs^+\;or\;3.0Rb^+$ ions per unit cell occupy 8-ring centers, ca. 8.0 $Cs^+ ions\;or\;5.7 Rb^+$ ions, are found on threefold axes opposite 6-rings deep in the large cavity, and ca. 2.5 $Cs^+\;or\;2.3 Rb^+ ions are found on threefold axes in the sodalite unit. Also, 1 $Rb^+$ ion lies opposite a 4-ring. Silver atoms, corresponding to 75% or 40% occupancy of hexasilver clusters stabilized by coordination to $Cs^+\;or\;Rb^+$ ions, are found at the centers of the large cavities. In the crystal structures of dehydrated Ag_{5.6}K_{6.4}-A$ reacted with Cs vapor, excess Cs atoms are absorbed and these form (locally) cationic clusters such as $(Cs_4)3^+\;and\;(Cs_6)4^+$.

  • Purpose: Acute carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning is one of the most common types of poisoning and a major health problem worldwide. Treatment options are limited to normobaric oxygen therapy, administered using a non-rebreather face mask or hyperbaric oxygen. Compared to conventional oxygen therapy, high-flow nasal cannula oxygen (HFNC) creates a positive pressure effect through high-flow rates. The purpose of this human pilot study is to determine the effects of HFNC on the rate of CO clearance from the blood, in patients with mild to moderate CO poisoning. Methods: CO-poisoned patients were administered 100% oxygen from HFNC (flow of 60 L/min). The fraction of COHb (fCOHb) was measured at 30-min intervals until it decreased to under 10%, and the half-life time of fCOHb (fCOHb t1/2) was subsequently determined. Results: At the time of ED arrival, a total of 10 patients had fCOHb levels ≥10%, with 4 patients ranging between 10% and 50%. The mean rate of fCOHb elimination patterns exhibits logarithmic growth curves that initially increase quickly with time (HFNC equation, Y=0.3388*X+11.67). The mean fCOHbt1/2 in the HFNC group was determined to be 48.5±12.4 minutes. Conclusion: In patients with mild to moderate CO poisoning, oxygen delivered via high flow nasal cannula is a safe and comfortable method to treat acute CO toxicity, and is effective in reducing the COHb half-life. Our results indicate HFNC to be a promising alternative method of delivering oxygen for CO toxicity. Validating the effectiveness of this method will require larger studies with clinical outcomes.
